@xForTheRepublic Dude, how lazy would people be if we relied on prayer for most things? I am a deist, I believe because of what I have learned in science and philosophy. Does that mean I found a way to scientifically confirm that there is a god/higher power? No, but I find it likely.
@metaldude82 people with true faith are not lazy. prayer for them is a way to help them calm down about things if they are nervous and gets things clear in thier mind, and then they work very hard for what they want.
Nowadays, you wouldn't catch any TV show talking about their beliefs and God in any kind of serious manor. Today, faith and spirituality are mocked and made to look ridiculous in TV shows.
This is SUCH a great episode. very moving. I'm so touched by the power and emotion and both Cory and his father emit. Mr. Matthews really is such a great father.
I wish Johnathon Turner atleast made ONE more appearence after the show. They don't even clarify if he survives. I believe he does because in the graduation episode, one of the students calls to Mr. Turner. But still, its so cliffhanger, and I hate how he got no more air time after that, he's amazing <3 they way he cares about shawn is so deep :)
@CowieMooCowxo87 why not? its a good school. arnt much better schools in the state beside ivy league. they got rid of the sickos and any university is prone to having people like that, you just never know when it comes to people.probably just as likely to encounter child molesters at penn state as you are at any campus or any profession for that matter.
Wow! That scene with Shawn in the hospital room, alone with Mr. Turner, literally gave me tears. I've never cried from a show before....This episode really reminded me of myself.
i hear thats there's going to be another show like boy meets world and this time its going to show i think december or nxt year..and its gonna call "like teen's world"...i hope they do:)
That's disappointing to see how they all react when he doesn't answer the question about whether he believes in God or not. Just because you are an atheist or don't believe in God doesn't mean you're empty and lost, as this show so eagerly portrayed it as.
@cmadison93 I agree. But maybe they should have went more in depth with it and said morals and stuff.....because every person should live by their own morals ya know? Whether you believe in God or not.
@cmadison93 The way I see it is that Shawn did have something to believe in after all. In this case, it was God as portrayed in the scene with him and Mr. Turner. Also, even if there was no mention of God in the episode, Shawn's monologue at the end with Mr. Mack shows that he realizes he was never an empty soul after seeing Mr. Turner in his critical condition. So it works for everyone's belief system I suppose.
@cmadison93 That wasn't the point. The point was that he didn't believe in ANYTHING versus not believing in God. The two are are separate issues. They were just touching on teen angst since the show kept a relatively happy beat throughout its run.
..? What exactly do you mean by 'he didn't believe in ANYTHING'? What do you mean by 'anything'?
Seeing as how they specifically asked Shawn, "Do you believe in God?" That kind of is an indicator towards the meaning of the show and throwing atheists into a negative light.
@LKSPR13 and i say again that at the beginning he was asked what he believed and where his life was headed. God vs atheism was not the main point. And tell me how and when in any point of this episode atheists were put in a negative view? Furthermore, This episode was about cultism not about God. They used "Teenager Identity issues to deal with cults, and existentialism. God was not the main issue nor was atheism, as you are making. watch it again sir.
@LKSPR13 Yea thats true, btw you responded to yourself, just thought id let you know you might wanna re-reply to him so he can see the message cause it is true.
I never said Theism versus atheism was the main point. I am quite aware that the cult issue was the central focus of the show.. but keep throwing straw-men around if that's your thing..
I was merely pointing out how when he was asked 'Do you believe in God' and he didn't answer, the look on the faces of Corey's family did indeed portray his lack of belief in a negative light.
Love this show man. I was Shawn growing up. I had a Matthews family and a Feeny.
Ron and Kathy. Thanks.
