  • hey all, did a video for nicole , you can search ' a video for nicole seah '

  • type MYPRIZE rather than YOU in youtube then click enter

  • Why are almost all the people actors/actresses/directors?

  • If someone went into the place to the ballot paper with the key,no one knew.If it is secret,y is our name n IC number needed on the voting card? The counter staff can just match the name n ic number on our identity card with a list of their paper to ensure we r the correct voter before sending us to the voting area.No ic number shld be printed on the voting card.

  • Hey ya'll! Please read the description before leaving your dumb ass comments man! This is in Singapore.. so that means the white person you're looking for is not going to be in this video.

  • "Unga vaaku ragasiyam aanathu" Tamil! Ha!

  • So this is just a video with asians saying "my vote is secret".

  • vote without fear

  • why are all the ballot papers destroyed?

  • @ExNoctemNacimur so no one can contest the tallyed votes

  • @johnnyNYecko and why do they not want anyone to contest the votes?

  • @ExNoctemNacimur because the opposing party can claim that the votes have been tampered with and history is written by the winners

  • Why are they all Asian and Indian??

  • @CurryMan1276 read the description, its about voting in singapore. everyone in the video is singaporean

  • You guys are just so skeptical! It's telling the world that Osama died, but nobody believes it cause they see no body!

    Your votes are secret!!!

  • I'm 12 and wat is this?

  • why is it that every one on this video is from another country/continent rather us/america?

  • @Forgeth3Bulletz because it is talking about voting in Singapore. Says in the description.

  • asians are good with numbers, so I don't see this as a problem

  • it would be just as easy to tally voters without doing this, this is dumb... do they get the same serial number every time they vote?

  • Bach Cello Suite #1; Prelude. COME ON GUYS; why do I hear this piece in simply every ad right now?^^

  • Your vote is secret!!! Don't be afraid! As Prof Tambyah said don't be afraid that the PAP track you because you vote for opposition. They can't even track one limping man in baju kurong swimming across the straits. (Mas Selamat) Hahaha...

In fact, because the quality of PAP candidates are so bad that many people we know are saying openly that they are voting for the opposition!

    Agree with @exaurius

  • I would rather votes not be secret, then the votes could be posted online and everyone can see if their votes were counted!

  • wtf are they all married or something? they just seem to finish eachother's senteces throughout the clip.

  • spoiling of a vote should/can be regarded as abstention since voting is compulsory in Singapore. If you do not agree with any of the candidates and after serious consideration, I feel one should be allowed to abtain if he/she still cannot decide.

  • hi this question is irrelevant to the voting process but may i ask the tune used in this video? thanks!

  • @HighInFat wow nice observation!

  • smelly curry.

  • why aren't there any white people anymore?

  • 1:34 Who helped you choose your glasses...Kill them!

  • Haha I wonder why Charlie bit My Finger- Again is a featured video at the top! LoL!

  • How come is everyone so weird?

  • Seriously, just give your vote and leave the rest to the government. Secret or not is not up to us to bother. As long as i live in peace in Singapore. That's the most important.

  • Comment removed

  • Are people in Singapore afraid that the government will come and take revenge for not voting for them?

Who is in charge over there?

    sound terrible.

  • @Landvette they're afraid they won't get their rights or will be blacklisted, say, it'll be so much harder for them to buy their own houses and stuff (friend's relative's true story about voting for the opposition years ago and had to wait 10 yrs or so to get her own house) but i don't know politics yet (not of age) but I hear many Singaporeans I spoke to who are actually afraid with their votes.

  • wow. most viewed :) may 7 will go well :)

  • maruah, this is a good start!! mayb u cld do an animation of the process

  • It's also to protect against forgery.

  • secret or not in the end the banks run the world and they control the leaders. Its all about money not who we want to win.

  • 2:28 lolz

  • omg.. look at the number of carton boxes and plastics bags being thrown away.. can they be more GREEN in election also? Can those plastic/carton boxes be reused again?

  • @VanitaRagazza ... why cant this be in english? and why don't you have awesome glasses?

  • @VanitaRagazza Hey, those glasses not weird. I have a pair! They look modern and cool.

  • @VanitaRagazza what you talking about, those glasses are AWESOME!

  • Paper and serial numbers are gone from the United States voting both, why? Because our votes don't count anymore. The U.S. has and always will be a Plutocracy. A war machine. Corporations swaying and influencing government policy to create more weapons, sell weapons, and find ways to keep wars going, or start more wars. Somebody stop this madness ?

  • @papertrails2you we can't... even if some uprising started, they would destroy it with the military or implant loyalists into the uprising to take it over and control it for them indirectly... There is no stopping them, its been going on for longer then just our countries existence. And it will continue forever, as long as the human race stays as primitive as we are now, there is no stopping them

  • why are parties in the vdo mentioned as PAP and the rest opposition, are they all on equal grounds, in the first place no 1 is opposing but all supposed to be representing the best interest of the people

  • @nekatrall The script was written by creative professionals, so I can only guess. But I would think it is for artistic purposes -- the video would be a little draggy if all of the political parties' names had to be recited one by one! In any case, I think all Singaporeans use "opposition" as short-hand for "the political parties other than the PAP".

    Siew Kum Hong

    VP, MARUAH

  • Beautifully done.. Thank you!

  • If you are afraid that the vote is not secret what does it say about the ruling party? Are you afraid of the ruling party and is it right for the ruling party to instill fear? Is there no better way to lead? I prefer leaders that inspire and not threaten. If you are afraid that the vote is not secret shouldn't you then spoil your votes as you do not know the reason why you are voting?

  • what ever you say, i dont believe my vote is secret. you can still count and tally without the serial number duh!

  • @slevenish Not sure what you mean; counting and tallying is part and parcel of making sure that the number of votes is equal to the number of people who voted. This does not affect vote secrecy. But we do understand that perception is sometimes as important as the truth; that is why we decided to make this video to reiterate the facts.

  • @slevenish That is probably correct, and I personally think that it should be possible to count/tally without a serial number on the ballot paper. However, that does not mean that the presence of the serial number inevitably means that your vote is not secret. As we've sought to show, there are numerous safeguards in place.

    Siew Kum Hong

    VP, MARUAH

  • @slevenish is there is no serial no. how know if that vote is not a duplicate?

  • U shld have ask other ppl... other than journalists and actors. Its so "scary" ...

  • do not be afraid, vote for opposition!

  • are the cardboard boxes incinerated intact (with the contents inside)? the journalist saw the ballot papers being tossed in

  • @crnbrry300 I believe that the journalist (Ken Kwek) meant to say that he saw the boxes being checked and verified to contain the ballot papers with the seals not having been broken during the storage period, and then saw the boxes being tossed in (which would inevitably also involve the ballot papers being tossed in as well).

    Siew Kum Hong

    VP, MARUAH

  • If I remember correctly, there is a serial number printed on the ballot paper that is given to us, and on the paper in the booklet from which it is torn. Why I believe the vote is not secret is because I myself observed the officer writing my unique polling number in the booklet, next to the matching serial number. So they CAN trace what I voted, if they wanted. So my vote is potentially not a secret. Saying that, it does not matter. It is time we vote for whom we believe in.

  • @applelillycat Thanks for highlighting this area. We've had quite a few similar queries. If someone knows your polling number and also the serial number on your ballot paper, they still don't know who you vote for because that can only be found on the ballot paper, which is sealed after counting and burned after 6 months. Btw, they check the seals to make sure there is no tampering during that 6 months before it goes into the incinerator.

  • @applelillycat The fact remains that in the entire process, there is no opportunity for someone to trace how people have voted without this being detected by the political parties themselves. And the political parties are all satisfied that votes are secret.

    Siew Kum Hong

    VP, MARUAH

  • CANADA DOES NOT HAVE SERIAL NUMBERS ON BALLOTS! This is a blatant lie in this video. We have an ID number listed on the voter-registration form. When we show up to vote, our name is crossed off the register and we are handed a ballot that does NOT have a serial number on it. Once we have the ballot in our hand, there is no possible way to match the ballot with the voter.

  • @xianqi64 Clarification: There is a serial number attached to the Canadian ballot, which is torn off by the elections officer when the ballot is handed to the elector. Is this the case for Singapore ballots? Are the serial numbers printed right on the ballot, or are they torn off before being placed in the ballot box? If not, it's very misleading to use Canada and the UK as examples.

  • @xianqi64 Thanks for the insight on the Canadian ballot process. I am trying to verify this. In any case, regardless of whether the reference to Canada is correct, the entire process does not allow for any opportunity for how people voted to be identified, without the political parties detecting it. And the political parties have all come out to confirm that they are satisfied that voting is secret.

  • any chinese version?

  • @shujuan5210 We have uploaded versions with Chinese and Malay subtitles.

  • Your vote is not known. But your area's votes are known no? If everyone in the neighborhood goes to School A to vote. Then we know whether that particular neighborhood supports or does not support the government or opposition. Hence, electoral boundaries can be redrawn to balance out these rebels.... Correct me if my statements are wrong please.

  • @kinghanactor Votes are counted by multiples of blocks so it is correct to say it is possible to know how a cluster of blocks voted.

  • While it is true that your vote is a secret, your "AREAS" vote sure as hell ain't. Your neighborhood is allocated to go to the same location ( either school or CC or whatever) to vote. As such, whether or not your area is supportive of the opposition or of the government is known. AND THAT LADIES AND GENTS IS PROBABLY HOW THE BOUNDARIES ARE RE-DRAWN.

  • Good that it's secret, but everybody know that I am not voting PAP. I vote for leaders with heart for people. Decided. Have you?

  • It's time to stop being afraid and let your voice be heard.

  • I don't get to vote.. but "Your vote is secret" is only as secret as you make it out to be.. If you tell the whole world who you're voting for, how secret can it be?

  • With reference to Gerald Giam's blog- The counting process can be witness by the candidates. Till now all these conspiracy theories about your votes being known to the government have never been proven.

  • Why can't they just assign the numbered voting card without tagging it to your name?

I have no problem regarding the serial number on the voting card, but do they HAVE TO tag it to your name? It's only for tallying the total number of votes.

When you scan your IC to get the voting card, You are REGISTERED (they should be able to total up this number).

Then they just issue an ascending numbered voting card to you.

The number of registered voters = number of voting cards issued, no problem rite?

  • I know it has been repeated several times that votes cannot be traced to individuals and it is locked etc. etc. But so far nobody, including the video has explained how is it secure? Although it is locked away, someone has to open it at least once to count the votes, and if there are serial numbers on it, it can be recorded and used for processing later, is it being recorded? And if so it is the records and maybe of these serial numbers that need to be secure.. as much as the locked boxes.

  • @smashme1984 Upon close of polling, the ballot boxes will be brought from polling stations to counting centres. The boxes will be escorted by elections officials throughout this process. The timings are tracked and it will practically be impossible for these officials to open the boxes, record the votes and serial numbers, and then reseal them while in transit, without being caught.

    Siew Kum Hong

    Vice President, MARUAH

  • @smashme1984 (cont'd)

At the counting centres, the boxes will be opened and the ballots counted. This counting process is supervised by the candidates' own counting agents, so it is not possible (and it is also an offence) to record serial numbers while counting ballots.

Once counting is finished, the ballots are put back in the boxes which are then sealed etc. The counterfoils to the ballot papers are sealed and stored.

  • i miss this accent so much

  • Good! Educate our people :) Thanks for uploading it

    Cheers

  • damn its been sm time since we've seen najip ali

  • of course votes are secret, otherwise based on 2006 election results 1/3 of singaporeans will be in jail.

  • i heard from a friend who's parents is a volunteer for PAP at community club, they say they know who for PAP and whos not, and theres a higher chance for them to reject someone who voted for opposition when they come to look for help. it struck fear to me. i wonder, during the polling day, when they count the votes, do they take down what the serial number of the vote card voted for and track it from the registration be4 u vote?

  • @bingquan89 I am not sure what you mean, but it seems that you are asking if it is possible for your vote on the ballot paper to be recorded, before it is placed in the ballot box. By virtue of the polling process, this is not possible. You mark the ballot paper privately, and then you fold the ballot paper and put it into the box. There is no chance for anyone to record how you voted. In fact, that would be an offence under section 56, Parliamentary Elections Act.

    Siew Kum Hong

    VP, MARUAH

  • @bingquan89 i heard this from my neighbor too when he asked for help and was asked to "go look for the party he voted" instead

  • @slevenish Challenge the person who said this, ask him if he knows (I suspect it is just empty threats) and tell him you will report to the police. All persons at the Polling and Counting centres have to take an Oath of Secrecy. It is a serious offence to break that oath. I am very sure that person (RC member) will shut his mouth up.

  • @slevenish As @lutein1 has pointed out, people in polling stations and counting centres have to take oaths of secrecy. Either the person who said this was just guessing, or your neighbour may have actually disclosed that he voted opposition (either to the person who said this or to someone else).

    Siew Kum Hong

    VP, MARUAH

  • @bingquan89 These volunteers talk nonsense. If they do that to me I will tell them that I will report to the POLICE! It is a serious offence to reveal what takes place inside the Polling and Counting Centres. Everybody working inside has to take an Oath of Secrecy. Anyway it is not possible to know how a person has voted because the ballot sheets are cast into the box at random and they are mixed up before counting.

  • thumbs up if Nicole brought you here :D

  • @forevalurve92 Thank you! Please continue with your good work! We all have an important role to play in letting others know about the truth.

  • I doubt that fella @ 1:58 .

  • Comment removed

  • So what if they throw away the polling paper or even burn them. The last time I voted, they scanned both my user ID and my Polling paper. And i'm sure it was saved into their computer database after that.

  • @guesswhoisthis101 Do "they" know how you voted? Is there a secret camera in the booth perhaps? Also please don't think that you are some big shot that PAP are so interested in how you voted. All of us are ikan billis - PAP can't be bothered with us.

  • @guesswhoisthis101 They can match you with the voting slip but how can they know what you have marked on the paper unless they retrieve the slip from the box later and enter who you voted for.

  • None of them were around during the 6mths that the vote were been kept in the safe... U do the maths...

  • @bttz As I've mentioned, the boxes are sealed and the seals signed by candidates. So if the boxes had been opened during those 6 months, the seals would have been damaged and this would be evident when the boxes are taken out for destruction.

    Siew Kum Hong

    Vice President, MARUAH

  • @bttz the boxes are SEALED and the candidates SIGNED ON THE SEAL. When the boxes are retrieved from the vault to be burnt, the candidates will CHECK THE SEAL for their SIGNATURES.

  • This is incorrect....

  • Janice Koh zehzeh~!!!!! :D

  • I wonder why majority of presenters are actors.

  • 0:13 Edmund Chow. How come this teacher looks so familiar!!!

  • Although individual votes is secret, WHY the ruling party can get demographics of votes based on zones or cluster of flats on the percentage of votes going to PAP or opposition? shouldn't this be 100% secret and totally untraceable?

  • @PeopleOfSingapura The GRC are redrawn everytime to allow an equal number of young and old ppl to vote in an area. Cannot be a GRC full of old people and no young people right?

  • @PeopleOfSingapura they cannot trace the individual, but they do have the results based on each polling centre. so if your neighbourhood CC serves as the polling centre, they do have the results of how many voter voted for opposition and the PAP that this neighbourhood CC serves, but they do not have the results of which individual actually voted for who.

  • @PeopleOfSingapura @josewmq has answered the question. I personally disagree with the ability to track voting even at the precinct level. But what remains clear though, is that each individual's vote is not traced back to that person.

  • Propagander LOL

  • I heard the boxes were steel and sealed? How come the pictures show them in cardbox type boxes? I wonder if they inspect every seal to make sure they were not tampered with before destruction? Because if so, once destroyed, we can never prove they were tampered with....comments??

  • @bigtree2819 Let me check on this and I'll get back to you.

  • @bigtree2819 I have the answer. The cardboard boxes are the boxes that we put our ballots into. These cardboard boxes are in turn placed in large metal containers when they are transported to the Supreme Court vault. The cardboard boxes remain in the large metal containers while they are in the Supreme Court vault. The cardboard boxes are then removed from the metal containers before they are thrown into the incinerator. That is why you see the cardboard boxes in the video.

  • @siewkumhong1 Thank You very much, appreciate your research. Can we be sure the seals are not tampered with and no one has access to the vault except the people who have integrity? Call me paranoid by I have this vision of agents opening the vault covertly and getting the ballot papers and taking note of all the ones who voted against the ruling party...haha. Once again. Deeply appreciate your research!

  • @bigtree2819 The seals are signed by the candidates (or their representatives). So it will be apparent if the seals are broken. The signed seals are inspected when the boxes are removed from the Supreme Court vault after 6 months, to verify that they are intact and not tampered with. This is how the political parties satisfy themselves that the ballot papers are not secretly inspected/recorded during the 6-month period.

    Siew Kum Hong

    Vice President, MARUAH

  • My mum and dad did not need any convincing as they fully believe their vote is secret at their age...early 60's.

However there are many middle age and elderly people out there from the ages of 45 and above who are still so damn afraid and narrow minded..Please let them know that their vote is a secret and the government can't risk complicating things for you..

Do not let the ruling party instil 'FEAR' into you..

  • There is still RFID Noobs...

  • Can some politicians please speak about consumer rights!!

  • Yes, our vote is secret. Do what we must!

  • no shit everyone in is video got a weird face...

  • thumbs up if mr brown brought you here :)

  • @kohjx422 whos mr brown

  • Lol secret or not, opposition.

  • @xArchangelSGE my stand exactly, secret or not? i DONT CARE!

  • @xArchangelSGE my stand exactly, secret or not? i DONT CARE! hammer time!

  • Fantastic video. Well done! Will be even better if they are produced in different languages for our multi racial society.

My wish is for this video to be broadcasted on our national TV. But I guess we all know that can never happen, considering this constant "fear" will always play to the ruling party's advantage.

    Once again, well done MARUAH!

  • @rookieplanner Thanks for the feedback on languages. This was literally put together by a team of volunteers in just under 72 hours, from conception of idea to launch. We are working on subtitles now.

    Siew Kum Hong

    Vice President, MARUAH

  • haha, familair faces, i already know who they voting for :)

    cheers!

  • Your vote is SECRET unless you going around tell everybody. Don't be stupid. Keep secret as SECRET.

  • Thanks Maruah for putting this video together!!

  • Well done!

  • well done.

  • MARUAH is a non-profit organisation, without any affiliation to any party or government, what's up with the comment on PAP colours?? anyway good job guys.

  • but the back ground is BLUE

  • Is there a Mandarin or better yet, hokkien version?

  • @WhiteC4HB

    no.

  • The whole video is PAP colours!

  • @nareshisking Isn't that better if this is really PAP sanctioned video? It will mean they are sincerely hoping for a good and fair election without needing to using unwarranted fear!

  • @Aequitaserz The fear is working to their advantage. Why would they want to change that?

  • @nareshisking er it was purely coincidental, I can assure you. For instance, we had a technical difficulty which aborted the filming on Monday -- when I first turned up in a different coloured shirt. And the retired army officer is in grey!

    Siew Kum Hong

    Vice President, MARUAH

  • Hi patpat82, the boxes are sealed after the counting process. The candidates from the political parties will sign on the seals. The boxes are then stored in the Supreme Court. When the boxes are extracted after 6 months, the political parties (i.e. both PAP and opposition) will inspect the seals to ensure that they have not been tampered with. That is how we know the boxes are not tampered with.

    Siew Kum Hong

    Vice President, MARUAH

  • @siewkumhong1 I have the same thinking as some others who had commented that our votes might have been tracked and recorded even before the boxes are being placed in the supreme court. Meaning while people (Most Probably working for the ruling party) are counting the votes, they have record the serial numbers of the ballot numbers to whom the voter had voted. There's a great chance this might happen tho. It'll help alot if this can be addressed.

  • @patpat82 All candidates will have their own counting agents present during counting. The counting officials won't be able to record the serial nos, without being detected. It is also an offence for them to do so. Counting officials are civil servants (not PAP employees), who have no reason to do this. Finally, the counterfoils will be stored in the Supreme Court in the sealed boxes as well, so even if someone has recorded the serial nos, they can't do the matching.

    Siew Kum Hong

    VP, MARUAH

  • hmm.... 6 months in Supreme Court doesn't mean it wouldn't be tampered with... The court is still under government....

  • @patpat82 another ignorant voter who thinks it's "kelong" whenever the party he/she supports lose.

  • @patpat82 When citizens don't even trust their judicial system, it says a lot about the state of affairs in the country. Are you going to live in fear your entire life?
