hi clumsyme10,im marinette, the father of jovita is the bother of my great great grandmother barbara fuentes also from roxas city ,iloilo. id like to meet you here dis is my email marinette_caliente@yahoo.com. i hope u get to read this ....
@cLumSyme10 Oh what a beautiful voice! But what I'm even more intrigue is that she bears the same last name as mine AND we are both from the Fuentes clan in Roxas City! I hope it's not just mere coincidence but I think there could be a connection. My grandfather's side in particular could be relatives with her since they have been living in Roxas City long before WW2.
If that happens to be true then we could also be relatives:)
diba si Jovita Fuentes,..ai tinaguriang kauna unahang "DIVA" ng Pilipinas,...?,...I'm not that quite familiar,..but I think she is?,...correct me If Im wrong,...
maybe, we'll just try our luck:D. but hey, as long as she's still in our heats .. her legacy wont fade:D i know that because she's my great grand mother. i still have a trivia for you that only our family knows, just P.M me if you have time and you're interested to know, its also related to one of her songs,:D
hello! jovita fuentes is also my great great grandmother, i just knew it, just two months ago when my grandmother(grand daughter of jovita ) told me about our family tree and history,:) no wonder i love to sing and won many competitions, i felt honored when i knew that she is my great grandmother:) now i know where i got my talent in singing:)
@cLumSyme10: If you are really that serious, go to the Cultural Center of the Philippines. They have copies of Jovita Fuentes' pre-war recordings in reel tapes in their audio archive/library.
@arjaa100 hello! she is also my great great grandmother. and no wonder i know how to sing and won competitions, i just discovered it just last two months that when my grandmother (grandaughter of jovita fuentes ) told me about it.:) i was so proud and happy that i now know where i got my talent in singing:)
@toiletholder : Do you know that in the Tagalog version of "Arimunding-munding" Constancio de Guzman, a Tagalog, is the one being credited as the composer of this Visayan folk song? You can see it in the "Maligayang Araw" LP of the Mabuhay Singers.
@philclassic Yes I noticed that. But I can't find anything conclusive that it was written by anyone else. Usually if the Tagalog version is shown to have one name under it then the song is originally Tagalog. But if a Visayan song is sung in Tagalog like say "Rosas Pandan," the credit it always shown along with the Tagalog Lyricist: Minggoy Lopez, Levi Celerio. But in this case I've read on 2 occasions that this was a Visayan song. It could be that the composer is not known.

@cLumSyme10: You and your family should make her name become famous again as she is no longer remembered by the younger generations of Filipinos.
