The best thing about lines is that it makes you feel like you're waiting for something even more exciting than it really is. XD I'm surprised I don't hear whining children, are they always so patient? O,o
OH MY GOODNESS! That is the longest line I have ever seen just to get into a store. Those people must have the highest level of patience in the world. I feel bad for the people that go all the way to the back of the line and then seeing the hundreds of people in front of you.

Lining-up is a "past time" in Japan. There's a line for everything. You can even line up to line up! (No jokes) You shoulda seen when they released the first batch of Pokemon Suica passes (Suica pass is a train pass card that you can top up). It was a Pikachu version. It was crazier than when PS3 or Nintendo Wii came out. Pikachu Suicas were on sale at 5am and sold out by 5:05am at the train station.
When I got Pearl version I only had to walk in and buy it. Did that store get it early or something? Why would the people line up for so long for that when they can possibly get it elsewhere? And how many copies did they really have there at the time?
That's in Ginza, Tokyo. Am I right? When I went to the Pokemon Center last year, it wasn't a long line. I just went in there and have a look around. There was no line, just went in.
