  • Absolutely perfect, note for note! good work.

  • dood u gotta tell me where you got the tab for this i cant find a correct version

  • @kennethalbinson1 Can't help there I'm afraid. I worked this tune out myself.

  • @kennethalbinson1 if you need a tab for this chances are you ain't playing it anyway

  • Awesome cover dude, loving the fingerpicked solo in there too :D, dont suppose you could do a tommy emmanuel song at some point ??

  • Very well done, Thanks for posting.

  • the night he came home I>

  • Pleasntly surprised, good job Steve!

  • Bloody fantastic cover! Perfect

  • Great, I'll have to try with my Strat one day, well done!

  • Thanks. It's on the cards and I'll be getting round to it shortly.

    Steve Laney.

  • Superb! A lesson on this would be fantastic!

  • Thanks. Steve Laney.

  • Absolutely first rate playing! Thanks for posting this.

  • Hey, really great video. I had a question for you.. I'm learning some Chet Atkins stuff right now, and I've noticed that most finger style players have long nails on the right hand and a thumb pick. I play the bass as well, and so I cant grow my nails too long, also I don't like the thumbpick. My question is this: Is it possible, is it worth it to attempt to learn his style , without a thumbpick /nails? Thanks and great video!

  • @NorthwestDissent Well I have fitted/wear acrylic nails. I get some weird looks from the women at my local nail parlour, but it's worth the embarrassment as I can play so much cleaner and quicker with them fitted. I can see your dilemma with the bass and this though. Give it a try though, it may work well on the bass too, or at least give you something unique to your own playing. Thumbpicks are great for this style. You have to get a good one though as some are too big and catch in the strings.

  • @NorthwestDissent I recommend using Fred Kelly Picks. Particularly Fred's Stylus or Slick Pick.

  • @CuntreeBoy -Thanks for the reply and the info, I've accepted the the thumbpick and its starting to feel natural, but I think I'm out of luck on the nails, as I really cant figure out how to play the electric bass with even the little nails I've grown in the last two weeks.. Keep up the good work, you sound great!

  • Yes...very good, that's exactly Mr Sandman by Chet...

  • Depressing, not your playing which is superlative, just the realization of the road to get there. Almost seems impossible. One question, how often and how long do you practice?

  • Hi mister Cuntreeboy.

    About song - Mister Sandman

Is there any chance you make a lesson with tabs for us, less talented players? I would deply apreciate it, and so would many others. you are realy good, and you could teach other people. Well if you have the time, and the will, it would be realy nice thing to do. :)

    with big expectations ---- alky10

  • @5349017 No problem at all, I'll do that for you. Give me a month or two though as I'm in the middle of moving house at the moment.

    Thanks.

    Steve.

  • This is absolutely perfect

  • well played steve, like your version very much although its almost a carbon copy of chet in the 50's. i've been trying to incorporate alternative thumb into the instrumental part to make it a bit fuller on the bass. i'm getting nowhere fast lol. best of luck steve and thanks for your help, you are a very fine musician

  • why does everyone i see who cover this song always neglect the vibrato bends?

  • bloody brill!

  • just...wow!!

  • Hey Steve. . . Very nice. . . I listened to a lot of people play this song here on you tube, and l liked yours the best. I used yours mostly to do my rendition. I have a slightly different finger style then everyone else. Also I play a little slower, because I'm just not as good. lol Check my video out and let me know what you think.

Thanks again for a really nice song.

    Mellow

  • Great! Did u use a guitar pro tab? I found a 9kb tab on ultimate guitar.com, looks like the best one I could find.

  • @ShadowmereNL Hi ShadowmereNL, No I didn't use tab. I work songs out myself by ear, it really is the best way to learn a piece of music. Thanks for viewing.

  • great cover man. and perfect tone

  • fucking amazing!

  • géniale !

  • you should totally do a tutorial of this song so i can learn it tooooooooo

  • 0.19-0.21 i just cant get under my fingers! how do you do it? correct me if i am wrong but is it E string 2nd fret, A string 2nd fret, D string 1st fret, High E string 2nd and 4th frets and B string 2nd fret for one note? If it is right...HOW DO YOU PLAY IT?!

  • I really enjoy your interpretation! Kudos!

    Peace

  • Excellent cover, better than the original.

  • nice cover man \m/

  • Fife Stars!!!

I am just learning it too and i know how hard it is ;o)

  • well done :) sounds great!

  • Great job Steve! Chet would be proud ~

    Fri

  • Nice!

  • Great pickin Steve.

    Alain.

  • when i close my eyes that sounds just like chet... i wish i could learn songs by ear, it took me like 3 days to work out happy birthday. amazing stuff man!

  • I still can't believe how you can figure out basically every song out by ear, it's awesome! I can only do that with piano, though it' no where near as complicated.

    --Ruby

  • Loved it man...... awesome...

  • You deserve more than 5 stars** perhaps 15 or more**** for a performance with perfection._Chris

  • The UK Chet Atkins Appreciation Society would love you as a member but it's my guess you are probably already one - nice playing. Keep posting the videos.

  • Your best clip. Amazing interpretation, timing and feel. Great tone. Not to be "that guy" who arrogantly comments on near perfection - but this sounds like you're using .10's - a little thicker could help fret buzz/slap.

  • Yes I'm using Elixir 10-46. I used to replace the 3rd with a 16 as I liked the uniform 16, 26, 36, 46. However, I'm just using the standard 17 these days. Thanks for your question and thanks for subscribing.

  • This is great! 5*s

    Lindsey

  • Great pickin`, man!

    martin

  • five stars, no doubt. Great job!

  • EXCELENTE my FRIEND! A PLEASURE TO HEAR THIS, MANY TIMES OVER !

  • could you pls tell me where i can find the tabs

  • Comment removed

  • Wow! nice job. You played this very well. It keeps encouraging me to play more. It sounded great, and the guitar was excellent as well. How long have you been playing? Thanks again!

  • Thank you. I've been playing for 14 years.

  • @CuntreeBoy youve been playing since i was born! ive only been learning for 4 yaers and my guitar teacher thinks im good enough to learn this but im not to sure about it

  • bravo!

  • Wow very well played and excellent guitar tone! You keep the bass line far more consistent and audible than most everyone I've ever heard play it. Is that an Eric Johnson strat by any chance?

  • Thank you. You're not the first person to ask if it's an Eric Johnson Strat. It's actually a 1956 Custom Shop Relic and, believe it or not, I'm playing it through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier with the 4x12 cab. This isn't my main guitar. My main guitar is my Ernie Ball Music Man Axis Sport that you may have seen me playing in my other videos. Thanks for your comment and question.

  • You are a mighty fine finger-picker. Off from the original??!! Heck, I thought it was mandatory to change a few things! This arrangement was absolutely great. If you had been playing an orange Gretsch and your face covered, no one would have known it from the master sittin' at home playin' around.

  • u play this song great the tune is off from the origanal but it is still great.

  • It's different to the recorded track, but I think it's pretty damn close to the live version the that Chet played (which is better IMO).

  • I have to agree with clydebank117. I have seen many videos of people trrying to do this one and you are the only one to get it right. congradulations.

  • Oh, wow! You're so talented :O

  • great stuff

  • Very Good Steve, check my videos

  • AT LAST !! - someone plays it right !!

    well done

  • Is that an eric johnson strat?

  • oh forgot to ask what or were would the sheet music be for this? to pay for or download for free?

  • i have to say thats a very very good performance. anyone says different well they'd need to hear it again. chets and your version steve are the best versions. no ass kissing intended.

  • Do you have a pick on you thumb?

  • Yes. I use Fred Kelly Slick Picks. Heavy Gauge.

  • Is that how you spell "Mister"? Sounds pretty good!

  • Standard tuning?

  • Yes.

  • Oh my god ! Perfect !

  • I always loved his version of this. Sounds like you nailed it. I really like your sound too. I've never heard a strat sound so good fingerpicked.

  • You should litsen to Jeff Beck

  • Actually, I think the live version on YouTube is Chet's best version.

  • fantastic - how long did it take you to learn?

  • What's the amp that are you using? The strat seems a Vintage 57 Reissue...

    Thank you

  • The guitar's a Fender Custom Shop '56 Relic Strat. The amp's a Mesa Dual Rectifier through a Mesa 4x12 Recto Cab. I'm also using a Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. I use Monster Cables and Elixir Strings.

    Thanks for your question.

  • You've got a real true sound! : ). Thanxs!

  • Great! : )

  • this is great, really nice job!

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Lovely ;)

  • Stunning, Supurb

  • Well Mr Steve Laney, look at you famous on youtube!

hope all is going well mate!

    Thinking of you both,

    Rich and Jess!

  • Could you tell me which album the 1954 recording is on. Is it the same version on Chet's Guitar Man album.

  • Yes, I worked out this song from that version.

I believe there to be only one version of this song. Chet used an EchoSonic amp to get the delay that he did. Chet recorded the song late in 1954, but scored his first real hit with it in 1955 by reaching #13 in the country music charts.

  • Actually Chet played two versions of this song, the other one he played it in an acoustic nylon string guitar and you can find it the "The Magic Of Chet Atkins" a compilation album that came out in 1990. It has diferent arrangements and it sounds as beautiful as this one too.

  • Thanks, I'll be sure to get a copy of that.

  • Great Job Steve, My son has the same Fender, the middle pickup gets caught on my fingernails. Keep ON Pickin, Bobby Gibson

  • I had exactly the same problem so I've lowered all three pickups. The only downside is a reduction in volume.

  • Man, you do Chet proud! I have no doubt he's smiling down from heaven!

    Superb job!

  • I don,t think it gets any better than this. Keep it up. Bill.

  • Your on the right track with Chet my friend. There's genius throughout all of his recordings. Incredible playing on your part. Very well done! A brandnew 59 Gretsch Nashville Classic should be your Christmas present this year. Keep on pickin...Steve

  • Man that's some great picking!! Your comments about Chet are right on also.....Roger

  • Great Job! Im learning this song right now!

  • Excellent job ! Just like the record ! 5***** from me.

Nothing beats trusting your own ears ;-)

  • Excellent !! six stars

  • Really super arrangement and job playing it! I love it! Thanks for sharing your talent and video with us! bb

  • Fancy. ^_^

  • nice job sir~! nice tone..what kind of strat is that?

  • It's a Custom Shop '56 Relic.

  • very nice and thank you for the comment on my mario 2 song! i really enjoy the Lenny Breau vers of Ill see you in my dreams you played as well...Lenny was the master and you play it great

  • Lovely job on this one! Only wish I could do the same!

  • Excellent rendition. ALMOST note perfect.

    Keep 'em coming!
