  • Fabulous!

  • when the good days are mentioned racism isnt one of the things on our minds this is back when families actually sat down for dinner together, kids didnt know more then their parents because they werent supposed to, people didnt have everything but they were happy. happiness is something our society lacks today, kids killing themselves for the smallest reasons. there was crime back then but you knew who were the ones behind, now it could be anyone. now success is more important then happiness.

  • @helioneto88 keep a going w your comments ! post them everywhere. tell them dennis said to do it !! thank u. great comment.

  • This makes me so sad. I only became an American 3 years ago and it seems our best years might be behind us. As long as I live I won't let that happen.

  • In the early sixties the U.S. produced 90% of the world's goods! Immigrants assimilated and they were proud to be Americans. I could go on for hours.

  • Racism is wrong and that generation was more racist than we are today BUT you can't ignore the fact that crime was almost non-existant in the 1940's. People didn't lock their doors back then because there was no need to. The divorce rate was extremely low compared to today. People weren't as cut-throat as they are today, whether it be about politics or everyday interaction.

  • DAMN THE ECONOMY AND EVERYTHING THATS GOING ON DONT LET IT HIDE HOW BEAUTIFUL OUR COUNTRY IS

  • If you got to be part of the audience, this is basically how it was. All about the airwaves and if broadcast, filling airtime. Those people look like people waiting in a train station of that era.

  • I see comments about "the good old days," then I pause at 1:13, take a good look at the audience that was allowed to be there, and realize that the good old days weren't always good.

  • my mom sang me this song every night up until i was about 10 then we never really even spoke of this song until my wife became pregnent. and now i sing this song for my kids, and my mother told me her mother sang this to her, it makes me happy.

  • this came to my mind when I woke up today and I cant stop singing it....^^

  • my grandmother sang this song to me, everytime I went to her house, when I was younger. I love her.... & sometimes, I can still get her to sing this to me. <3

  • the oldness makes it sound ten times better

  • Look closely starting at 1:22. That Woman came to be known as Mary Ford, of the Les Paul and Mary Ford fame.

  • o man i member this song wen i was a lil kid man them are sum precious memories always put me to sleep =)

  • i was born in 1996 so i'm 15 and my mom would sing this too me each night till i fell asleep up until i was about 10.... i was crying when i listened to it cause i haven't heard it in so long

  • I was born in 1987 and my Mom sang it to me every morning to wake me up. I have such a great mom (and I love her very much).

  • My mother used to sing this to me in the 1950s along with many such wonderful songs. Do mothers still sing to kids? I hope so. It is the sunshine of a little kid's life when mama sings love songs to her.

  • @verdew8181 I was born in 1980 and my mom used to sing it to me every day until she died when i was 10. I gave birth to my son in 2009 and I have since carried the tradition on. The first few times it was sung through tears, but I managed to get it out. :)

My ma Elaine, was not quite born yet when this come out ...and then when she was in 42... she was destined to sing this song for my li'l sister, Erica we sung it again on her death bed afore she went home to be with Jesus. God Bless Ya's with sunshine in the people of your lives! particularly the SonShine of Him at Heart . She came to know Him in her fight with cancer, & He won!

  • this use to be one of my hitchhiking songs...always makes me smile when i hear it. I travelled the length of the USA and Europe and up and down the UK singing this.... happy days.......

  • It also happens to be an old, old Ukrainean song, named: Oh, up there on the moutain ...

  • My mom always sang this to me when I was little. It's a beautiful song sent by God.

  • My mother use to sing this to my one son, her 1st born grandson. it was very special to them. Every time I hear it it makes me think about my mother who has passed on.

  • when i was a baby my mom always sing this to me i would cry when she did and to this day i still ter up

  • The Sunshine Girl in the middle is Colleen Summers who later became Mary Ford with Les Paul. My dad, one of the Milo Twins, appeared in this movie "I'm From Arkansas". It is a cute movie, loaded with talent.

    Winston Edwin Plyler/Miolen

  • @PreservingMemories2 Did Mary go on to the Jack Benny Show? They married, correct? My Mom sang on the radio in the midwest in the 30's and she taught us kids tight harmonies while driving down those Illinois and Indiana two-lane roads on the way to Francisco and Streator. Loved this tune for many years, and miss her voice so much...this takes me back. Thanks for all these Sunshine videos.

  • Great song. Interesting video. Focus your attention to the brunette gal closest to the male lead singer. She is giving him "major eyes", and when he goes to sing with the blonde watch her reactions. The lead singer even catches her "eyeballing" him a few times. Someone has a crushhhhh....lol

  • I hear Country music insiders, who decry the "California"-style Western Swing, like JImmy Wakely. Personally, no one can compare with Bing Crosby's version, but I still like Jimmy Wakely's version, who was very good. Also, Rex Allen, Sr. was terrific, as far as voice goes. During WWII, Winston Churchill requested for Bing Crosby's "You Are My Sunshine" to be sung in person, as Bing and the song was Churchill's favorite. FYI.

  • absolutley love this song. it's one of my favorites..

  • "We've come a long way baby." Check out that pompous honky? The women were better than he was! Hard to believe how much "we" have changed. Fake and pop, but still it hit a cord with people of the day. Hits a cord with me even today.

  • Most of the American singes are great performers.

  • This is such a soothing song. My grandma used to sing it to me when I was little. My guess is that she sang it to me because I must remind her of sunshine since I'm always smiling.

  • kooc417nhoj....man what is it with father's of that 'great' generation....i think they were very tuff 'hombre' because of the awful horrid cards history dealt them....i think they wanted us to be tuffer than they were for things to come....

  • Perfect.

    Thanks :)

  • The entirety of a life is but one long memory and at last breath those memories are like tears in the rain held by some that shared but had a different view the most powerful memories will blow away like dust in the wind Try as I might I cannot ressurect a life as much a I desire when a life departs where do memories go along with all the fire?
  • @kooc417nhoj "who wrote that? did you?

  • the good old days are a long distant dream that is like a deep deep dream that will never come agen the america we knew back then was destoryed by fools

  • @cote919 Well if people make up their minds, these good old days can come back. And the fools you refer to, I can tell you who they are. They are the liberals and the hippies. All their nonsense of counter culture revolution and changing the status quo resulted in the degradation of the US and we also must mention the illegals, the third world immigrants and also the bums who do not want to work but are content to exist on welfare. What a tragedy 50 years in the making since 1964/65 - present.

  • @cote919 you are a sentimental fool. It was the America of racial segregation. There is a reason why you do not see a single black person in that clip.

  • Comment removed

  • @jparker3281 There is no denying that the US in those years were a deeply racist and segregated country, where racism was actually embedded in their laws. In the face of that calling those the good old times is naive, or ignores the social reality of those days deliberately. Whether there is a single black person somewhere in the back of this audience does not change that. The audience was white and there was no casual mingling of races.

  • beautiful gone America...

  • beautiful ... thank u

  • Do you know the middle Sunshine Girl is Colleen

Summers who later became Mary Ford.

  • This is the saddest song I've ever heard.

  • I don't know why you were thumbed down cause this song is quite sad. Still love this song.

And honestly I never knew the lyrics till now when I sung the chorus to my girlfriend. Meh, now I don't sing it much knowing how depressing this song is.

  • It was for me until I heard Candlebox 'far behind'.

When I hear that song I cry because of the way I treated my Father before he died. You cannot unring a bell.

  • My mom use to sing this to me when I was younger! Getting all misty-eyed now! Thanks for posting!

  • Lovely. For Centuries... Danke schön.

  • this song is just beautiful :) and the singers voice is magical <3 Im in love hehe =)

  • This is my favorite song, and im 14 years old.

  • me too im 11 and my gilscout leader sings it all the time

  • My grandmother and my mother used to sing this song to me when I was little. Now I sing it to my child. :) Strange how things travel on.

  • So sad. Such a sad song. I covered it the sad way too.

  • my great aunt would lay me on the bed as i was a child and pull out her autoharp guitar and banjo, she would play it and sing it all day long switching instruments each time. Her voice would cover her house and the music was magic. This song was actually the first song i ever heard and my aunt sung it to me the day i was born. I sang it at my grandmas funeral and me and my aunt break out the old autoharp, guitar and banjo and now i play and she sings

  • so old but still good:)
