When I 1st met/heard him when he was at USC and playing a pizza and ice cream place at 5 points, i thought the same thing. He is just a great singer/songwriter. Does color really matter. I mean in 1961 Ray put out Modern Sounds of Country Western. This was when he could not play to desegregated crowds. Ray had the Cahoonies to even play some Hank SR. songs. Well Charlie Pride is still active in Branson. No top ten stuff but still a great singer. Please remember the legend Ray Charles put out Mordern Sounds of Country and western in 1961. It had songs Hank Sr. made famous. Now at that time that could have been reason enough to lynch Ray. I have been fortunate enough to know Darrius when he was in college and he is just what you hear and see. A great writer/singer and most of all a great guy. As for color well does it really matter?
