I train with muay thai fighters and where were the knees? He was in the clinch and no knees? Knee slaps? He's clearly new to the sport. When i train in the dojo, we see a lot of elbows, hooks, uppercuts, reverse kicks...etc. Not a Muay Thai fighter...at least not experienced.
You know what makes me feel great about this fight? The chunky guy is made to wait around for quite a time until the buff tattooed guy makes his grand entrance. Just looking at them makes you think..."wtf?" But all of a sudden the chunky guy ACTUALLY has great technique and pwned the buff tattooed crowd pleaser through the whole fight. Reminds me of me... ;) Looks ain't everything folks. Better training and technique rules hands down. This fight proves it.
All that training to fight on their feet, kicking and punching and they are on the ground nearly the whole time. The winner knew how to take it to the ground and did! Who can argue that most fights end up on the ground?

The last statistics I know of came from Carlos Machado back in 1998 and I don't remember where he found it, but it was 94% of all fights go to the ground and about the same amount at some point are in the clinch. It pays BIG to know grappling and BIGGER to train none stop in BJJ.
Dang. I am all for ground fighting. I enjoy doing it more that stand up, and i think it's more practical and realistic.. but stand up is a lot more fun to watch in my opinion :P the whole reason i clicked on this video is because i was hoping to see two stand up fighters go at it..
Grappling techniques might be good for self defense against human, it can even be said as the best in one on one battle, but it's not even useful against animal, especially animal that bites or even against large number of people..

most mma between less exp fighters, gd fighters vs other gd fighter will be on the ground less due to them having such gd takedown defence, so standup can be more important if neither fighter can take it to the ground which they often can't, in a real fight, who knows? real fights are different because usually one guy has a huge advantage of skill/weight/strength or gets the drop on him so its over before any ground fighting but these guys train to fight each other and were probs similar skill

if that's true, then why has the U.S. Military, particularly the Army, adopted alot of MMA into their H2H curriculum? the Rangers actually host MMA tournaments involving their troops before deployment to get them into that "battle" mindset.
guys i train with are current LEO's, some former military, they'd all attest to this. hell, i've worked corrections for 4 years, and my training has involved this stuff.
when it comes to real life military applications(thai military train in the more lethal versions of muay thai which include boran) im talking about ring sport, boran, does use not submissions(although there are a few takedowns), we mainly grapple to break limbs and joints because its faster and lets us move on to next opponent quickly, these techniques cannot be used in the ring because its too lethal, i am sure what the us military does, alot of it is not for sport either
actually, alot of what the Army, Marines do train in are things like the very same BJJ techniques that we train in at the academy. same goes for law enforcement agencies. now, i'm talking strict hand to hand. in terms of lethality, they've all got that covered with weapons training. my point was the military as well as law enforcement find value in MMA. that its not entirely for "beer drinking wannabe's" as you said.
it depends on the persons own skill level, just because he is "mma" doesnt mean he has a greater arsenal or better equiped than someone doing a pure form, that is the misconception that mma fans make while belittling other martial arts, besides most mma guys have half ass skills in the martial arts they know, bastardizing technique and the "art", theres nothing artistic and intelligent about the way they move and fight, just some meatheads a disgrace to martial arts, of course im stereotyping

What about BJ Penn? he trained with the gracies almost everyday and got his black belt in Gracie Jiu-jitsu in only 4 years, it takes most people 6-7 but becasue BJ Penn always dominated in grappling tournaments and even beat the gracies when he had to face them in tournaments, BJ Penns grappling really isnt that great compared to some other people in MMA either

And if you avoid learning what its about, it'll be an unfortunate day if they find themselves in a grappling situation with someone experienced. Just cause a person knows muay thai and boxing doesnt mean theyll be able to beat a guy who knows striking and grappling. Thats why MMA is about striking AND grappling... no one should ignore the ground game just because they think its gay... so many fights go to the ground

MMA is less deciplined than Muay thai, no mma fighter is an expert at any 1 marital art, there all sorta good at everything, meaning they never really know what there doing.. hence 90% of MMA fights are total shit.

most mma between less exp fighters, gd fighters vs other gd fighter will be on the ground less due to them having such gd takedown defence, so standup can be more important if neither fighter can take it to the ground which they often can't, in a real fight, who knows? real fights are different because usually one guy has a huge advantage of skill/weight/strength or gets the drop on him so its over before any ground fighting but these guys train to fight each other and were probs similar skill

No it's just that you're desperate enough to be looking for lovers online, I just described what I saw. A real man stays up and keeps his pride. In fact professional fighters who take pride of what they do see it as unworthy to take advantage of an already down enemy. That's why in most fighting events if you can't stand up you lose the fight.
Even in everyday language, to stand up is linked with guts.

if that's true, then why has the U.S. Military, particularly the Army, adopted alot of MMA into their H2H curriculum? the Rangers actually host MMA tournaments involving their troops before deployment to get them into that "battle" mindset.
guys i train with are current LEO's, some former military, they'd all attest to this. hell, i've worked corrections for 4 years, and my training has involved this stuff.

when it comes to real life military applications(thai military train in the more lethal versions of muay thai which include boran) im talking about ring sport, boran, does use not submissions(although there are a few takedowns), we mainly grapple to break limbs and joints because its faster and lets us move on to next opponent quickly, these techniques cannot be used in the ring because its too lethal, i am sure what the us military does, alot of it is not for sport either

actually, alot of what the Army, Marines do train in are things like the very same BJJ techniques that we train in at the academy. same goes for law enforcement agencies. now, i'm talking strict hand to hand. in terms of lethality, they've all got that covered with weapons training. my point was the military as well as law enforcement find value in MMA. that its not entirely for "beer drinking wannabe's" as you said.

it depends on the persons own skill level, just because he is "mma" doesnt mean he has a greater arsenal or better equiped than someone doing a pure form, that is the misconception that mma fans make while belittling other martial arts, besides most mma guys have half ass skills in the martial arts they know, bastardizing technique and the "art", theres nothing artistic and intelligent about the way they move and fight, just some meatheads a disgrace to martial arts, of course im stereotyping

Half ass skills? What about BJ Penn? he trained with the gracies almost everyday and got his black belt in Gracie Jiu-jitsu in only 4 years, it takes most people 6-7 but becasue BJ Penn always dominated in grappling tournaments and even beat the gracies when he had to face them in tournaments, BJ Penns grappling really isnt that great compared to some other people in MMA either
