  • I. NEED. HIS. SWEATER.

  • Did Jeff shave between sets??

  • the three souls who disliked this had their ferris wheels set on fire.

  • @shellygrrl lol.yeah they're carnies.=)

  • it seems like everyone in elephant 6 has awesome sweaters...

  • On almost all of his videos the majority of comments are about that sweater :P

    Bloody awesome sweater though...

  • He's saying "Jill Carnes" you tools. They never opened for Yellow Card.

  • @Beastman5K REALLY?!?!

  • WOW i canT belive nmh opening for YELOWCARD no way

i can belive them opening for otc, or 764 hero

    BUT NOT YELLOWCARD

  • is it me or is this the best song ever

  • It really isn't about Jeff's guitar playing. It's about composition and lyrics. But just because someone plays simple chords doesn't mean they aren't talented. It's just a style of music. A sort of minimalism.

  • how to rock out with a sweater

  • Jeff Mangum is above Jim Morris, Kurt Cobain, and EASILY FUCKING YELLOWHOMOASSCARD! Jeff is still alive! Still around!

  • @SeedsAreUs

What you must mean is Jim Morrison :/ I like NMH and everything but you cannot say he is better than kurt kobain, who, played more than just major and minor chords.

  • @jddeitz2000 Yeah right, Kurt played no harder stuff than Jeff. I love Nirvana and I love Kurt but Jeff is more of a heartfelt person than Kurt is anyday.

  • @SeedsAreUs I disagree, it's a completely different vibe

  • he has the greatest sweaters

  • @wryish808 I'm pretty sure it's the same sweater every time :)

which kind of just makes it 10 times more fantastic.

  • he has the greatest sweaters

  • I think there is a better audio recording of this, juss to let people know, which I blast all the time on my way to school and back. Imagine this done in the studio add a nother guitarist and it would be even better. beautiful stuff.

  • @punksk8r19 quit talking and upload! ;)

  • @punksk8r19 there is. i can't remember where i got it from but i'm glad i did haha

  • does anyone else hear birds chirping

  • is someone playing a banjo ?

  • @NmHman127Nugget

    probably.

  • anyone know what guitar he is using?

  • the only band ever besides nirvana

  • Jeff looks like he needs a hug. : I

  • unreal

  • this, along with anything else done by them, is amazing. I almost exploded when I heard that he was going to be on the Chris Knox tribute album. It is absolutely amazing.

  • @Havokz3 yea his version of sign the dotted line is awesome

  • I would give anything to experience this.

  • WHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

  • this song is too fucking good. I wonder if this would've been released if they stayed together. I can't even fucking imagine a late nineties elephant six studio recording of this.. holy shit

  • My life's ambition is to meet Jeff. Hopefully that can be a reality some day.

  • YELLOWCARD!? No way. Jeff should not open for Yellowcard.

  • if anything, yellowcard should open for jeff

  • @xxxspongebobxxxk agreed

  • is this at the knitting factory or bottom of the hill show?

  • @kolaoncoke

1998-04-12 Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco, CA

  • If he made another album he wouldn't even need to write any new songs, he had so many outtakes. And almost all of them are amazing

  • 2:30 I got chills

  • same :D

first time ive seen a vid of them too

    They are absolutely awesome!!

  • Anyone know the lyrics? or tabs?

  • @bebopalulahola well the tab is just F and then G, alternating.

The lyrics, well, you can find them easily on google.

  • I love this song to death. The lyrics and sound are just incredible. I really wish this song had been included on ITAOTS.

I miss you and your music Jeff Mangum.

  • At least he isn't dead.

  • @imasuperbeaver opening for yellowcard isn't far from it

  • This is the single best song in the fucking world. Period.

  • this song is the best shit ever listen to these lyrics. beautiful

  • Best song ever. Furthermore, props on Lee Morgan pic.

  • This song isn't on any of their demos. It's a live only song.

  • Does anyone know or give me links to where I can download all of their demos? This is the only song I've heard from the three of them.

  • This whole show was so amazing.

  • "And now finally fading from view

    Is everything we ever knew."

    *shiver*

  • that was my senior quote

  • unreal

  • ok....the best band to ever perform anything ever..noway is anyone this good,.,.someone fuckin tell me where i can find this song

  • its on one of their music myspaces and i think you can download it

  • absolutly amazing can someone tell me where i can find this song on a cd?

i would hav been so happy to have been there

  • i can't leave this joke up for any longer in good conscience. BUT it occurs to me that he could raise a buttload of money for a worthy cause by playing a single benefit somewhere, if he could muster himself up for it.

  • lol that joke wasn't funny, my heart skipped a beat

  • I think I'd loose all respect for this band if they ever did a benifit for a politician.

  • It's amazing what you can do with 2 chords

  • This song is beautiful! Is it on one of their albums? I have Aeroplane, and I didn't see it on On Avery Island.

  • majestic

  • hey, xkriistyx3 you obviously have WAY too much time on your hands and no appreciation for real music. you sound real intelligent kid. O.o

  • Had never heard this song before, freakin awesome! And where can I get one of those sweaters!!

  • xkriistyx3, don't come on here and lay into a musician we like. you're only gonna make people mad, and you're not gonna change anyone's minds. it's as much a waste of your time as it is ours.

  • Judging by how poor your spelling and grammar is, I'd say you are indeed 13. This man is the brains behind one of the most important, underrated bands of the 90s. If you don't like Jeff Mangum or his music (or evidently his sweater), don't say "he sucks". That is being ignorant. You may not like him, but you can't deny his musical prowess and songwriting talent. Don't worry, you'll probably realise in a few years after you've stopped listening to My Chemical Romance.

  • lol pwnd

  • shes probably pulling the technicality card and arguing that 12 isn't 13.

  • I think you're either going to like 90s lowfi indie rock or not.

But if you do. Good lord. Word is he's been rocking out with friends recently. And he's shown up to shows when some Athens bands play NYC. Fingers ever crossed.

  • Geez, fingers crossed here too. It would be the greatest news of the year.

  • He also put out an amazing noise album with the guy from of montreal.

  • You're a thirteen year old girl who has subscribed to the Chris Brown and My Chemical Romance channels. No wonder you are so ignorant.

  • better musicians than you will ever be so get the fuck outta HERE

  • can you drum, play the trumpet, acordion, piano/keyboard, trombone, fuzz bass, and actually make a somewhat successful recording of it... i really doubt it so shut the fuck up and try and apreciate something good while its here.

GOD I DONT EVEN KNOW YOU AND I HATE YOU.

  • Good god man, you really don't need two accounts to flame a guy. Also, what's your problem with NMH? I think they were a great band, personally.

  • It's really just about the lyrics.

They weren't the most amazing instrumentalists. But they laid down the track for the lyrics to go over...I think that's all they were trying.

Have you read/listened to the lyrics at all? This guy could/can write some great songs.

  • you are a jackass nolanpotter. NMH are master instrumentalists. are you fucking kidding? listen to this? it is supposed to be LOFI jackass. Jeff Mangum intentionally recorded on 4track. It is intentional distortion. Intentional doubletracking. The music itself is conceptual and corresponds to the lyrics. youre a clown

  • I wasn't talking about the fidelity, JACKASS. I get lo-fi music, jackass. I listen to plenty of lo-fi music, jackass. I DO like the sound of lo-fi music. Jeff Mangum is a great songwriter. I get that. I was just saying that he isn't a great guitarist. And he's not. He never went beyond like 7 chords each song. So there.

    fucking ho.

  • i like i said, clown, complexity does not equal greatness. In fact, just using 7 chords makes him an even better. He captures himself, a spirit, his passion in his playing. No amount of knowledge or technical complexity will ever achieve that. It;s natural.

    small minded schlub.

  • nolanpotter1 how do you know if Jeff Mangum is a great guitarist?

his music doesnt call for intricate guitar licks or complex progressions, that doesnt mean jeff isnt capable of them.

it doesnt mean he IS either, but still you dont know.

  • Have you ever heard a guitarist who can completely disassociate the singing and guitar like this? They don't rely on each other at ALL, but they make themselves completely part of each other. Look up the recent performance of Engine. Jackass.

  • listen to ghost. great example of how you dont need to be playing tapping solos to be a great guitarist. there is no rhythm between his singing and guitar playing but he still keeping in time. that shows you are a great guitarist.

  • INDEED THEY ARE

But anyways, I love this song.

Wish it had gotten onto the album (along with every other officially-unreleased songs).

  • Yeaahh i was surprised too when i noticed it wasnt there

  • @nolanpotter1

nolanpotter1, Do you know what the blues is? A real blues guitarist can get more emotion out of 7 chords than any carefully developed super elaborate composition. Jeff Mangum may not have played the blues, but he certainly understood how strong music writing and cooperation works.

  • he said all he could say with

seven chords and more. thats all he needed. it's a moot point to say he couldn't play guitar well.

  • so the more difficult something is to play the better it sounds?

  • awesome sweater

    seriously thought, <3 NMH

  • Simply amazing.

    This is my hero.

One of the greatest songs ever written.

    Look at him rock out!

  • Amazing. Perhaps even the most beautiful song ever performed.

  • Jesus fucking christ this is an amazing song

  • Love it. Love it. Love it!

  • @Blomstrom

    Blomstrom:

    No, no, that's Nana Grizol.

    *badumt bssh!*

  • Can't describe it with words.

    The best.

  • wow..

    thank you for posting this.

    lovely sweater.

  • best

  • My friend wouldn't even give this music a chance. He'll hear this guy moaning the lyrics and run out the F'in door.

  • I think you should get a new friend. >;P

  • whoaaa if i was at that concert i dont know what i would do.

Either stare in awe with my jaw on the floor, or i would go fucking NUTS. Like moshing, jumping, headbanging, having some intense spirtual revalation. WHoaaaa my life sucks cuz he doesn't tour anymore.

  • that is a lovely sweater

  • I agree!

  • love the drumming

  • Wow.

  • This is how I'd like to think his musical career ended. Playing this song, rocking out like he did. Quite possibly the most inspiring visual performance of a single song I have ever seen.

  • I heard this is the one circulated song that was composed after Aeroplane was recorded... so you're closer than you may think.

  • Actually, that song was Little Birds

  • This guy is like the quintessential musical being!

    Thanks for posting this!

  • A studio version of this would have been spectacular, but I think that the live recordings have this irreplaceable charm. Insanely powerful music.

  • i think magnum is the best live i just wish i could see him live just one more time

  • you can get their song live from his elephant6 page.

  • seriously! where do you find this song!!??? its been killing me! i absolutely love it!!

jeff mangum is so inspiring and great. after that nervous breakdown hes been gone. i'm not encouraging the bring back mangum thing though. let the guy do what he wants. we've already captured his genius. I don't think i need any more jeff after itaots. his genius lives in that album like anne frank lives in his soul.

  • thanks so much for posting this. i did not know this song before. the legend keeps on growing.

  • This is one of the best songs he's ever written. too bad all i have are two shitty live versions of it on cd.

  • where is jeff!!!

  • Only found NMH in the last few months.

Videos even better than I imagined!

    Spread the word...

    Come back Jeff!

  • They sound so unique. I'm big fan of NMH. Greetins from Bosnia!

  • They got a fans here in Bosnia too! Fantastic NMH!

  • This is the best song ever. Fo' srs.

  • "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" is one of the most beautiful and unique records I've ever heard. It's great that they actually have a rather big cult following nowadays. They're STILL underrated though. I am a big fan of their older material too; Thank you for this footage.

  • nobody believes in anything so pure anymore: this is beauty, this is truth.

  • They had some great unreleased tracks.. this and 'Engine' are classic.

  • engine did release

  • What is he seeing. He sings and looks off into space. It's almost as if he's singing to someone that isn't there, except to him.

  • that sweater is older than all of us taken together, i suppose. so don't mess with it!

  • i love this song

  • boy, that's an ugliest sweater i've seen -- just kidding! hey thanks for sharing this!
