That's right, the 8GB is just a 2G with updated firmware version. There's too much confusion, the 32 and 64GB are 3G because they have the same processor as the iPhone 3GS, the 2G has the same processor as the iPhone 3G.

Next iPod touch release date will be in September, 2010. Buy the iPod touch from Best Buys and the $70 extended warranty. I had a 1st generation iPod touch and broke it when I opened it up. Of course I put everything back together, but the screen was no longer working. I brought it back a few weeks ago to Best Buy's customer service counter - where they replaced my 1st gen iPod touch with a brand new 3rd gen iPod touch. I also gained $200 in store credit because the old iPod was more expensive.
