  • This is a classic COOL STORY BRO

  • @5:57... "to make a long story short"

    too late. :)

  • That was a reflection of light. Nothing fell off his head.

  • DoODADOODALLOOOO

  • maybe, anyway thanks. This firmware makes router CISCO level. Using now Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) mega

  • the main question is... what falls from his head at 6:05. Some DD-WRT?

  • @NorfolkRUS i think it's a sunbeam

  • Thanks for sharing your experience. I've been personally using DD-WRT for over 6 years and it works well. Take care !

  • Nice ending LOL.

  • qos is for priority, if im plying a game i need higher priority to not lag, but if at the same time someone someone is checking email they dont need a lot of speed and bandwidth so it gives the game more bandwidth and higher priority, qos will give someone requiring large bandwith like torrent more not less bandwith, but good vid

  • I HAVE TWO LIKNSYS WRT-54G. ONE OF THEM IS RUNNNG DD-WRT AND THE OTHER IS RUNNING TOMATO. BOTH ARE GREAT. IF YOU WANT TO GO BACK, JUST GO TO THE LINKSYS WEBSITE AND DOWNLOAD THE LATEST FIRMWARE AND YOU CAN PUT IT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL STATE BUT WHO REALLY WANT'S TO DO THAT?

  • DD-WRT works with a few routers. You have to check the website and see the compatibility list. You have to verify the version of your router also. It works with WRT54G ROUTERS BUT NO AL VERSIONS. Take a look at the bottom of your router and it will say for example: wrt54g v.3.0. So, If it's on the list, go ahead and flash that router. You will be happy for the rest of your life. It works like a charm. Since then, I haven't reset mine. Also Tomato does a great job. I have 2 WRT54g's.

  • what are the benefits of installing dd-wrt?

  • i have a $300 router that we had upgraded from an expensive netgear router that was giving us a hard time, the problem was the same on the linksys router too. I had to shut it off every 5 hours or so because it would constantly disconnect. I tried everything, but nothing seemed to work. I read about ddwrt to try to bridge my connection and b4 i even bridged it, all comps in the house had full bars, and they were able to stream 1080p without hicups, and I haven't had to reset since the install.

  • i do wonder if DD-WRT can be flashed on an AirPort Extreme?

  • I love DD-WRT and Tomato!

  • I use dd-wrt, and set up a WiFi service that pays me when people use it.... Its isolated from my regular network and works great...

  • I just got the wrt54g-tm. Its the wrt54g that everyone loves but its got tmobile branding on it because its sold to be used with tmobiles broadband cell service. Its just a beefy wrt54g, that has the capability to run mega version of dd-wrt. cant wait to play with it as my netgear is such a piece of junk it cant even run dd-wrt!

  • i just upgraded mine to dd wrt.. i freakin love it.. although it takes forever to reboot.

  • I like openwrt. Check it out.

    Openwrt > DD-wrt

  • I have a Linksys WRTG45 router and used DD-WRT and loved it - but experienced some issues also - but I recently tried Tomato and it rocks - give it a try

  • alot of N routers are still trash. A couple decent consumer level ones finally out there.

GL amoung a few other G based are still best. And early versions of standard wrt54G. prior to ver 6. I have no exp with newer v8 though, so no comment.

  • dude thx for the info and keep up the good work in your YouTube channel. Doing the upgrade now on my DWL-2100 D-link piece of monkey poo to DD-WRT and hoping to have the same result.

  • i have heard openwrt is good too

  • even though DD-WRT is buggy, it's still LESS buggy than proprietary crap.

  • What falls off his head at 6:05?

  • his kids?

  • a contact maybe?

  • he was laughing so hard a tear fell out

  • @getthatfooty HAHA!It looks like it comes outta his eye?

  • @getthatfooty

lol It looked like his contact ejected from his eye.

  • yo big papa! Holla! thanks for the great advice. I got a roomate that is hogging some serious bandwidth, and I need more control

  • you rock!!

    ps : ijsie stinks

  • listen to this guy for real. i just upgraded my firmware from linksys firmware and i didnt realize how shitty linksys firmware actually was until i upgraded with dd-wrt.

i was skeptical at first thinking dd-wrt was just some linux hobbyist thing but no, it is serious business. highly recommend :)

  • Great video! About to do the DD-WRT thing myself. LOL, whats flips off your face at 6:05?? :)

  • so true

  • Sick stache :D

  • I use wrt54gs v3 ,with v24-sp2 mega! It has 8MB rom

  • wrt54g v1.1 is the most recommended man

  • Thanks for your insight. Makes me want to think twice about putting out money for a new N router.

    I have a Linksys and I think I will be trying DD-WRT.

    Thanks once again bro.

  • Why did you buy a $199.99 router anyways? I got a Cisco Wireless N (branded through Rosewill) and it's been so fast and reliable at only $60. NewEgg is your friend, not Best Buy, lol.

  • I have dd-wrt v24_sp1 on a Linksys WRT-310N v1: easy install and works great. The QoS is very useful and the wireless range has vastly increased since I increased the tX from 70 to 100. Runs a bit hot though so I hooked up a internal case fan to keep it cool.

  • Does it work well with the Whr-G125 router by buffalo?

  • Yes, it should be ok for G125. For my case, I use Tomato for that.

  • OK, for those of you who got here after Googling "DD-WRT", this is basically just a vid of some dude driving around and recounting his experience with DD-WRT. It's not a bad vid, and he does speak clearly and provides (some) useful bits of info. But I'm mystified as to why it's showing up so high in the Google rankings.

BTW, the vid does not contain a single screencapt of DD-WRT, nor will you see any routers. It's just him, driving and talking.

  • Same here I've been using DD-WRT for about a year now and it is great. I'm running it on a WRT54GS which is an older model you can still get em for 30 bucks.

But the firmware is weak, it does nothing.

I have all kinds of stuff going on.

I recently started playing with the firewall builder app.

I can do what our cisco PIX firewall did at work for serveral thousand bucks lol :)

  • Great video, I have used DD-WRT on multiple devices from Linksys, including many versions of WRT54Gs and WAP54Gs. Would love to try it on my WRT600n 1.1, but don't have the balls to brick my router if something goes wrong... The router works the way it is, so no need so far. As far as WRT54GLs go, DD-WRT is the way to go. I've had 2 of them running in several modes for a connection 1/4 mile down the road, using Bridge/Repeater mode. No way I would have accomplished anything with stock firmware

  • I have a wrt54gs v.5, and it never finishes, always says failed. what firmware did you use?

  • v23 SP2 std and higher have worked on WRT54GS v5 for me... but I believe you should follow the flash procedures on the dd-wrt wiki and use the micro first, then upgrade to the standard later. Linksys stock firmware has a size limitation so only the micro will flash until you have DD-WRT on it, then you can go with more features of the standard version.

  • could someone help me install this on a v6? i havent been able to

  • I have this exact same router ver. 1, used DD-WRT Mega with no issues other than playing hell setting up services such as FTP and USB storage. Hes not joking about the features, for your average user though, if the USB storage is necessary, DD-WRT could be a show stopper in that aspect. I had no issues with the Linksys firmware though, its got some weird switching issues where my XP machines aren't showing up in Vista's network neighborhood but I can still access them. I highly recommend DD-WRT!

  • I would also note that DD-WRT allows you to see what UPNP has set up, whereas Linksys gives you the finger and an Enable/Disable option. Too many features to list, make sure you're using the appropriate version for your router before you tackle this task. It usually recommended you flash the mini versions first. Just read up on it if you are going to tackle this.

  • Just flashed my WRT54GS with DD-WRT micro (it's the only version that is compatible...only 2 megs flash ram on this model). I must say it is a robust, feature rich firmware. I love the improved QoS and Wireless options.

  • I just upgraded from stock firmware on my WRT54GL and I must say, DD-WRT is INCREDIBLE!!!

I love DD-WRT and I recommend it to EVERYONE.

  • I've been reading this stuff for over a year also and just ordered a new WRT54GL and will be flashing it upon arrival. Great explanation.

  • Buy This Router @ Circuit City Better Deal

  • AND! You gotta love "WiViz Survey" on the wireless status page! The graphical respresentation and the data presented are intuitive for sure. I love DD-WRT on my Linksys WRT160N!

  • Just installed it. It was fast and easy. Way worth it so far but now I have to figure out why I only have 50% connection strength from 10 feet away. Might have to move router away from tv.

  • I had the same problem. You will have a good signal strength but poor "signal quality" if your adapter is too close to the router AP. Move the router further away.

  • Are you talking about the modem? What is the adapter?

  • I have the WRT150, the router right below his and I have the same freaking problems. I lose signal upstairs and can't get it back. I know linksys makes good routers because my dad has the WRT54G and has had no problems. I'm going to learn about DD-WRT tonight based on the recommendations of customers at Newegg.

  • I am currently surfing my neighbors WiFi (with permission)using a Linksys WRT54GS v2.0 running DD-WRT final, it is running as a repeater.

  • I use a Linksys WRT600N and it ROCKS with DD-WRT!

  • I myself am a DD-WRT user and after having had a Netgear router (awful POS) as my first, I never looked back. DD-WRT is INCREDIBLE, my router NEVER freezes up and I literally never have to power cycle it (in the case of said nonexistent freezing). With my Netgear router, I had to power cycle about 3 times a day. I'm so glad that thing got struck in a lightning storm XD.

  • this would work on a WRT54GS also?

  • like a champ, DDwrt is awsome!!!

  • like AG said

    It works great!

  • Just upgraded today and its a huge improvement in speed and stability.

  • I've got a WRT54Gv2 and a WRT54GSv6 both running DD-WRT. I've got to agree with you DD-WRT rocks! Although in my case the Linksys Firmware worked, there is no contest when compared to DD-WRT. Also good to hear that someone has tried DD-WRT on a WRT350N (I plan on buying one of these in the future).

  • Damn straight

  • Oh man, Bwana, what a great video. I have a Linksys router myself (the WRT55AGv2), and it's absolutely horrible! And on top of that, it doesn't use Linux! It uses something called Atheros, or something... In other words, I can't use any other firmwares than Linksys' firmware. They just won't release new firmwares though (lazy sons of a beeps!)

Funny thing is that you can't buy this router anymore in the stores here. They knew it was bad...

    I'm gonna get me a WRT-54G...

  • Great vid! I've been using DD-WRT for about 2 and 1/2 years now and I couldn't be happier! I strongly recommend it to anyone with a compatible router. I'm looking for a gigabit lan and wireless router that's compatible with 4mb versions of dd-wrt if anyone has any suggestions.

  • Yea punk! dd-wrt!

  • DD-WRT is a great firmware isn't it??

  • Go Bwana, i like your vids.

  • another good firmware is tomato. If you don't need all the features of dd-wrt. Tomato is awesome

  • The reason uPNP was enabled after your reset is because that's the default setting. All WRT-54G's come that way from the factory.

  • Hello folks. I want to switch to DD-WRT, however, as I understand it, DD-WRT is not available for my standard WRT-54G, only for the WRT-54GS. So, wheres a good upgrade for my router? My primary purpouse is to boost my range, and tweak my QOS. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. My dad is wireless by way of an Airport card on his Mac, I am wired. His speed/connectivity is horrible so this upgrade is needed big time. Thanks much!!!

  • It is available for your WRT-54G

  • It is available for alot of standard wrt-54g's but you have to check your version of the router, depending on the version you may only be able to use micro firmware due to the limited memory on the router. Make sure you follow the directions cause you can brick your router, and have to jtag it back to factory settings, of just tftp it default.

  • Awesome!! I'm going to switch to DD-WRT. Great vid man i'm gonna subscribe. -peace

  • Just recently I got sick of of my wrt54g, and i really have to say, dd-wrt is god. I've never seen QoS work well with Bittorrent before, and dd-wrt is the closest thing yet, granted network latency still increases, however pages still load in a flash. People on my network are actually able to browse whilst I torrent. I've started hearing praises about a firmware called tomato, If dd-wrt ever poops out (doubtful), I might go tinkering around.

  • Long live DD-WRT. You are slightly mad driving around and recording a video but I like ya anywa' !

  • i have a link/sys router to

  • What a nightmare...I can feel your pain. I have a Netgear Wireless N router which also has to be reset frequently...grr. Hmm, I sense a weekend project in my future...say DD-WRT? Thx Bwana!
