This kids got some flashy moves but obviously has no real technique or skill in actual fencing. It would look great in a movie but in an actual sparring session he would be unable to guard and actually strike with any effectiveness.
I think some samurai just turned over in their grave....
WTF are they teaching kids these days? Fuck this kid, fuck his teachers, and fuck this video. Absolutely pathetic. And the audience even applauds him at the end... What a fucking joke.
Just 3 things i noticed, and dont get me wrong im not hating on this kid, but his moves and his swordplay seemed a bit to bland,to me anyways, his moves seemed to carry no "Punch" and his reaction after finishing a move seemed a bit over exagerrated. maybe im just like this but i like demonstrations to seem real and not seem like the guy is scared of not catching the sword. sorry if my comment pisses you off I really dont intent any disrespect by it.

I do use a sword on a regular basis and while I guess the kid's okay for his age...he's got horrible stance, his grip is terrible, and if I telegraphed my moves like that I'd lose every time. Cute try, he ain't no fighter.

The performer is a paid, professional, sponsored, alibeit young, and very well trained (or at least practiced) martial artist.
"Sharpened" weapons are not allowed in competitions. This young man could not move a "real" katana in this manner. This "competition" sword is < 1/2 the weight of a "real" katana.
To all nay-sayers: Get off your butt, turn off your computer, get into a dojo and begin to sweat.
I understand that this guy was doing a Kata, but with a real weapon? And to make it worse, a Sword. If I were a practitioner of the sword style, I wouldn't want to bamboozle the audience. I mean, who in the world is going to throw a sword in a fight?
I'm sorry, this is cool and all, but it's also really dangerous for a kid to be performing sword tricks this close to the audience with no protection. If they couldn't afford metal netting around the demonstration area, they could have at least made sure the space was large enough so even if the sword flies out of the kid's hands, audience would not be hit by it.
man its just for show in a real fight throwing ur sword in the air would render u defenceless. its like the air kicks good for showing off but useless in a fight
I think you're missing the point. This is supposed to be entertaining. if you want the authentic technique, there are plenty of other slow, boring vids to watch.

I'd be terrified if I was sitting in the front row. He has no control of the sword and if his grip loosened...

In a real fight, you would never throw your katana in the air; I don't know what this person is trying to prove...
