  • This is the very, VERY first time I learned the alphabet as a baby. Timeless classic! :D

  • I love the sleeping beauty variant. Telly, Elmo and Zoe sing the alphabet to Sleeping Beauty but it gets cut off at G leading into the next segment.

  • There is another variation. In episode 3734, they sing an alphabet lullaby. It gets cut off at the letter G and the alphabet continues at H.

  • The huge O face still gives me the goosebumps, but I LUV the vid!!!!

  • Fantastic music, lovely drawings, easily one of my favorite Animation pieces the show ever produced.

  • I love this!!!!!

  • how exactly is this a madraigal? :D

  • hey, I love it too. I am 41 and I used to always watch these old videos to remind me of my happy times when I was feeling unhappy. It was a way to remember times when I was happy. Honestly, even today it helps sometimes (of course, being married to a wonderful woman has helped too!) :)

I am really sorry about your autism, but remember you are loved by God no matter what - his love is unconditional

  • Edutainment!!!

  • I remember this!! Loves it!

  • 1 person had no childhood

  • Such a beautiful little skit... I miss this!

  • This is how Mozart, Bach, Beethoven et. al. were taught the ABCs :)) (Seriously though, 'loved this clipped. Always have, always will :D)

  • @NicoleTirona It does sound like a piece from that period, but it was actually a piece done in the 20th century by Carla Piper.

  • @jeopardy60611 : Yes, thank you :)

  • I got goosebumps. :)

  • @applebonker141 me too!

  • This is one of my absolute favorite Sesame Street bits. The animation, while simple, is still so beautiful! You know that it was all cel animation, and the inspiration was drawn from Victorian faerie illustrations. These two things alone are not what make it visually beautiful, but they are my main points. Also, the music is like a lullaby.

  • I'm 43 and remember this the first time around in the early 70's. What a beautiful piece of music and animation. Looking back, I believe that the reason I and most of my gen-x peers have such an appreciation for all musical forms today, is because of early SS. The synthesized and oversampled crap that kids have grown up with the past 30 or so years have melted the brains of our society.

  • @azaccone - Long live the true Genreration Xers!

  • @azaccone I agree. And another sad thing is, is that it is now considered unfavorable to be intelligent and sensitive enough to appreciated various types of music and art at what ever age. That somehow being educated makes you socially inept and suffering all kinds of neurolgical "illnesses" I shake my head at society these days!

  • Such a beautiful piece of animation! So few animators today really strive to create something truly beautiful.

  • much better than justin bieber

  • Does anyone know if the music is original (made just for the segment) or if it's a piece by a classical composer?

  • @foolsbee This music is composed by Carla Piper, someone in the field of music education. Apparently, she has a strong interest in Renaissance music. She also wrote the background music for the Simple Simon clip on Sesame Street.

  • @jeopardy60611 :

Thanks for the info. I've always been enchanted by the music from both those classic Sesame Street clips.

  • 0;40 WHAT WERE THET THINK THIS IS A KIDS SHOW

  • @kalpavrksa1 Yeah, a nude female figure. Of course, no one thought that the little kids watching this would pause the video, so this sort of thing wouldn't be noticed.

  • Cute video just 100% cute.

  • I cry whenever I see this

  • @trent730 Me too! That gives me so happy when I cry!

  • goosebumps

  • I forgotten all about this one the music sounds like it came from the reinasance era. Thanks for bringing back a forgotten memory.

  • This is one of the best Sesame Street alphabets ever. The melody is beautiful and soothing and the animation is fantastic.

  • when i first found this on here i almost cried...reminds me of my younger days...now i have grandkids and i showed this to the youngest and she loves it so much she sings to it and tells me to play it again when its done.and for this i say "ALL HAIL YOUTUBE" cause now i can also watch all my favorite shows on here like G.I.Joe,the transformers, thundercats, voltron and many more,i luv the 80's and heavy metal music,if you love the 80's give me a SHOUT people i'd like to hear from you

  • @sithlord1626 I just noticed you are 39. So.... you are a parent NOT a grandparent.

  • Subscribed.

Because I'm a kid at heart

  • I may be an adult, but I'm a kid at heart

  • You don't get stuff like this watching Dora the Explorer, that's for sure.

  • I remember this on Sesame Street when I was 4 years old, at most 5 years old, in 1981. I am 33 years old and have Autism, and because of that, I am still in many ways, emotionally and socially, a 4 1/2 - 5 year old and LOVE Teletubbies, Barney, Care Bears, Arthur, etc. I have seen this video about hundreds of times, and I have tears in my eyes sometimes. I hope when I do pass away, when I go to Heaven, if I remember anything from Earth, I really hope I remember this

    clip from Sesame St.

  • @geowhizkid26, you just broke my heart.

  • @geowhizkid26

I'm sure you will , I feel the same way about this vid, I remember my grandmother and I would sing along , and I loved every minute.

  • @geowhizkid26 I feel you. I'm 15, almost 16 & I have Asperger's Syndrome

  • @geowhizkid26 It's nothing bad being a kid at heart :) I'm sure if you think of heaven, you'll think of this.

  • i get the chills whenever I listen to this.

  • moromaner, it gives me more than just chills.

I remember when I was 4 years old when I see

this. I remember nursery school-preschool. Sure, theoretically (and perhaps technically, in a way), I'm still like a 4 year old, I would say a child who is more like 4 years old and 11 months, nearly 5. But the thing is, although I

haven't changed that much (except I'm much taller than your average 4-5 year old), the world has changed. The atmosphere of the 1980s is NOT the same as now, sadly.

  • It puts you in a whole other realm. For me, it was the 70s, and the world just felt completely different back then. It had more substance somehow.

  • Missed this song since I was a child. Very nostalgic!

  • I don't recall saying that. Though it looks like other people agreed with me.

  • Yes yes yes! I've always loved this segment. It's beautiful.

  • omg I was just watching this lately.

  • Wow, really cool ^_^.

  • I remember this!!! :^)

  • This has got to be one of Sesame Street's best segments.

  • i was actually singin along

  • You describe yourself as sensitive, I see. Maybe you could show some sensitivity towards others?
