the f35 was designed and built for a different role to the raptor, it was nothing to do with cost, developing 2 jets is more expensive than developing two so that logic fails. The f-22 is better on paper than either the typhoon or J-10 with only the Typhoon having any chance of equalling it, the EF's only advantage was in electronics but we shared all that tech with the US and its gone in the raptor anyway. China's only advantage is in numbers, which isnt an advantage with poorer tech.

2. You can't kill if you are killed first (Beyond the sight missiles)

The AESA (AN-APG77) type radar in the F-22 can only engage 4, and has a detection and tracking range that is only 60-70% of the Irbis E against targets of the same RCS. "Old" Russian technology, huh? No, that's incorrect. Old US technology used AWG19 radar on the F-14 Tomcat, which could track and engage 6 targets with the Aim54 Phoenix. And that was in 1969. Things have changed a bit since then.

The SU family has an excellent air frame, but the technology used to control it is pretty old. If there were a fighter that the US would buy from another country, it would be the SU27, but current designs and pilot training already show a good kill ratio in the US favor.

That's not true. The Harrier is an import attack craft that met the USMC needs for a VTOL strike fighter. No American aerospace firm at the time could make one. The USMC also considered the French Dessault and the Swedish Grippen.

In fact, the USMC imports both a Danish and Swedish troop transport because American arms industry can't produce one that meets the Marine Corps needs.

OK, you didn't read my post thoroughly. The Harrier is British...a US ally and co NATO member. The French, and the Swedish are considered "friendly" countries. The US will do business with them. Though the Cold War is over, Washington's doctrine has been to still treat Russia as a potential "adversary". As to China, we do import a bunch of stuff from them, but you'll never see a J-10 in our air force, even though it's considered as good as or superior to our legacy fighters at a lower cost.

The ISS is a joint project, and obtaining the best hardware for it's success, transcends any politics. Now if those rocket engines were to be used in ICBMs, you can be sure it would be "no dice", and in this case, more so from the Russian side. Non lethal, non military use equipment sales only.

The Tomcat's solid state electronics in the 1960s and 70s were way ahead of their time. And you know what? They only got better. The six-targets capability is the old public figure given when the plane was first shown to the public and used in Vietnam.

Since then, the avionics were improved over its 30 years of service.

The SU-27 series now uses fly-by-wire, but didn't in its first inception. I have a book on the thing. They've been upgraded with western tech, but not hardware.

The F-14's success was based on the fact that the design objectives were to first create a weapons system, and then design a flying platform around it. Of course it's systems, both defensive, and offensive were upgraded over the years. India's SU-MKI has a combination of western, Russian, and indigenous tech. Newer Russian variants such as the SU-35BM have ALL Russian avionics, as well as their soon to be tested stealth fighter, the T-50. The West no longer has the edge it once had.

Why the Zero can beat your early fighters? Because it was maneuverable! Maneuverability means you can deliver your missiles when your opponent can't! Better aerodynamic design => more energy efficiency + very capable engine = dogfight winner!

Every fighter design drives the "enemy" to come up with a counter-measure. If the J-10 excels at maneuverability, maybe the U.S. will have to focus on speed and more precise missiles.

You cannot compare J-10 with F-18. They belong to 2 different classes of fighters.

You know, F-18 is a heavy twin-engine, carrier-based fighters mainly focusing on air dorminating, as well as land and sea attacking abilities.

J-10 is a light single-engine, multi-purpose fighters. The larger internal space and more powerful engine make F-18 more superior to J-10 in flexibility of combat mission. Such comparison is unfair to J-10.
