  • I'm considering getting a Leatherman for my fishing, can they crimp wire crimps for pike traces?

  • @TheProgrammer93 I've never tried it myself but I imagine it would work. Maybe someone else would have more expertise.

  • @TheProgrammer93 yes they can. i know from experience. the crimper is actually milispec to. the SOG crimpers also work well.

  • buy from amazon like i did, than it is a no hassle return, no questions asked

  • @auradud3 That's what I will probably do. Good idea.

  • @dsheckx my pleasure, good luck

  • @auradud3 Yeah I got the Sog power assist from Amazon. It was very nice but not worth the money and I realized I didnt need it. Return was simple, full refund, no hassle.

  • the gerbers are beginners multi tools, the TI is a real work knife, i am an electrician, and it stands up to real use, even the sogs fall very short of real work, and most plainly suck in ergos, or blade accessibility

  • @auradud3 I agree with your assessment of most Gerbers. They sacrifice too much in terms of functionality for the sake of affordability. I am going to have to get a SOG to test, though, because I hear mostly good things. Looking at them from afar, the ergos do trouble me as well.

  • @dsheckx it is something i could not deal with, the main blades are behind a locking pivoting jacket, and to be honest the blades were of poor construction, the jaws of the pliers were good, stronger than most, but that was just not enough for me to keep the tool

  • @auradud3 I am not sure that is still the case on the newer versions but I will look into it. That is the very reason I have not purchased one as of yet.

  • @auradud3 gerbers are real high quality though, ive had my gerber suspension for 5 years and ive never had to sharpen it once, although sometimes i think alot of multi tools over do the amount of tools on the knife :)

  • u should get a victoronix multitool to complete the colection leatherman gerber victoronix

  • @LieutenantJCameron I have. I just didn't have it at the time. I may redo the video or update it with the Vic.

  • @LieutenantJCameron yes can u plz do that can u send me a mesage when it is made and up and u should get a sog to

  • Great video and usefull presentation. But I wonder if chaeaper alternatives exits

  • @multitools1 It really depends on how much functionality. My Charge honestly sits in my knife box most days but my Juice is literally with me every day. If that is all you need, the Juice is half the price or less.

  • The Gerber Octane and Flik would solve your issue with not being able to use the full length of the blade and still have sliding pliers.I got a Diesel and an MP600 and they both work pretty well for me.The only thing really appealing to me from Leatherman is their models that have outboard opening blades. This would be a fairer review if you compared tools of the same time period or class.

  • @Drownedinblood What kind of blade steel do their main blades have?

  • @dsheckx If you're talking about the Octane or Flik I think it's usual Gerber stainless for the MP line but idk for sure certainly no high speed steel like 154CM or S30V.

  • @Drownedinblood And you still say the only appealing thing about Leatherman is how the tools open?

  • @dsheckx Yes for my intents and purposes on a multitool blade I don't need the higher end steels.I just need steel that will hold an edge adequately, be quite hard, easy to sharpen and basically get the job done well enough. If I wanted higher end steels I'd get a purpose built knife with the steel to make maximum usage of it as it doesn't have to compromise any blade shape or ergonomics to accommodate other tools on it and be a lot more comfortable to use.

  • @Drownedinblood First, I have found Gerber steel to be anything BUT hard. Every blade I have with the Gerber name on it has been the softest steel I have every come across. While it is easy to sharpen, I find myself having to sharpen far more often than I like. And as far as blade shape and ergonomics, the main blade on a Charge is a Bowie which I usually prefer and the ergonomics are well thought out and very comfortable so that I don't have to carry both a knife and a MT unless I just want to.

  • @dsheckx Fine use whatever set up you prefer I'll use whatever I prefer, simple.

  • I wouldn't mind you taking the swisstool up against the tti , I couldn't decide which of the two to get, and there's not enough good comparisons on U tube.....ended up with the swisstool but not sure if I made the right decision. Like to see your take on it.

  • @MrChino303 I'm on it.

  • The Victorinox Swisstool is also pretty sweet. It's big but it's really good quality. I have a Swisstool X, Leatherman Charge TTI, Wave and Kick, so I'm a Leatherman fan for sure. Leatherman's good, but the Swisstool is more solid I think. I usually carry a Leatherman though because it's lighter, but for quality and hardiness the Swisstool is probably the best multi tool on the market but it's a bit heavy to carry all the time.

  • @misterchuckle I have a Swisstool that I am going to review very soon. I like it but I wish I would have gotten the X like you did so I would have scissors. I am going to have to differ to the Nutnfancy multitool classifications. I think the Swisstool is a heavy duty while the Charge is a medium. So I would agree the Swiss tool is more solid but it is also heavier. A better comparison would be the Swisstool and the Supertool. I may try that out soon.

  • Very biast review in my opion

    1 cost..... really?

2 said in the begining he's a "gerber guy" so he admits to bias

3 gerbers are shit? half the products they make don't display steel Leathermans do.

4 the mech for gerbs... last 3 years at the most *old gerbers excluded* gerber are for people who want to look like they're camping leathermans are for people who are the side of a mountain Gerber uses Mysterious steel which i've said is probally 240 which is shit not in the usa buy a super tool 3

  • @howtoguro Bro, he said the leatherman was the winner, and he pretty much shit on both gerbers. Sensitive about your Leatherman much?

  • @howtoguro top comment is about you, owned

  • fiskars is gerber and vice versa

  • @kilog55 I figured that out shortly after making the video. I partly wish they would have just dropped the Gerber name so that the fanboys would have multitools that were the same brand as their moms' sewing scissors. :)

  • I agree leathermans r friken awsome

  • Very nice review. My neighbor has a nice old leatherman that he's used for about 12 years. However you are wrong. They eventually flop all over the place. His is still in one piece but you have to flop the handles out and get a good grip so it doesn't fall out of your hand. What's your opinion on the Gerber MP450 Multi Tool and Paraframe I Knife Combo Pack? It's on walmart(dot)com for only $24. Is that a good deal?

  • I own the Surge, the Juice S2,and just got the Charge TTI. Your right, nothing is better!

  • @mrjoeyb I couldn't agree more. As a whole, the Leatherman lineup is heads and shoulders above the competition.

  • I have an old Leatherman PST that has the same limitations as that old Gerber. My SwissTool, however, does not. Saw nutnfancy (curse his nutnfancy-isms for spreading so far and wide) get into that in one of his videos, btw.

For those who prefer one-handed opening for their blades, I carry dedicated blades for when I want to cut things. In my mind, a multi tool is not a cutting tool.

  • @CanItAlready I think the point is that external tools do not have any disadvantages. Why have internal tools if there is no up side.

  • Great video dude, why don't you make videos anymore?

  • @CutleryNovice That's a really great question. To be honest, I have a 3yr old, a wonderful wife and a hectic job. Finding time for the videos is very hard. However, I have several I want to do and I will do my best to get a few out before the end of the year.

  • @dsheckx Ahh I understand bro, take your time I'll be on the look out!

  • wow recoil

  • SOG is also a great multi tool

  • @hadd13 I agree. I am working on the new SOG with assisted opening blades.

  • gerber multi tool

  • @jarredthompson Just the kind of well reasoned and logical argument I've come to expect from the Gerber fanboy crowd.

  • @dsheckx Yeah, you're right. Kind of like the logic the guy that made this video used when he left cost out of the argument. A bit like comparing a celica and a corvette then whining about how slow the celica is. Makes lots of sense.

  • just wanna ask u use the file to file what??

  • @binot A couple of thing come to mind right off. First, I've used it to sharpen an axe and second, I've used it to cut metal like a snare.

  • does anyone know when the leatherman MUT is coming out?

  • HEY ALL YOU NEED IS 1 MULTI TOOL

  • walao u damm rich lor. i bet these multi tools cost a bomb

  • @HHH1997 They really aren't too expensive for what they are. The Leatherman is the most expensive but the other two are around $40-$50.

  • have you looked at the gerber suspension? doesn't have the problem that the other gerbers have in your vid.

  • @MatrixOne976 Looks interesting. I will have to take a look.

  • @dsheckx I got one about a month ago and it is solid. Blades came pretty sharp and they lock. Its also only about $30. (I got mine off of amazon for $28 shipped)

  • @urkingod To be honest, I haven't owned a SOG. I would ask for others to chime in (thanks bushcraftourway) for more info.

  • @dsheckx sog has great quality tools but i have a problem with the blade steel it dulls too fast my fav is the twitch 2 and looking forward to getting the twitch xl with the tanto blade

  • @salesspyder I think you make a good point. MT makers are not very serious about blade steel and that is why I think Leatherman still leads the pack. They use high quality steels like S30V and 154CM and proudly put that on their blades. I just wish other makers would follow suit and realize that MT fans are also likely knife fans who know their stuff.

  • @dsheckx i think that if i spend $70 on a wave that i should at least get vg-10 steel like the delica 4 by spyderco but i have a tti and a wave so i have s30v plus i dont use the wave that much

  • WOW 1:58 hha SHIINK!!

  • gerber can suck my nuts who would but a gerbebr not dissing your video but the blade steel sucks and the pliers? i cut two old rusty nails and now the pliers are all mangled

  • SOG powerlock

dont ask why, its just really great!

  • You should really check out the victorinox Swiss tool. They are the best multi tools that I have ever come across. Unbelievably solid and strong. They are great

  • I actually just purchased one. Very impressed with everything so far except for the weight. I'll have a vid soon.

  • Dude. If you can't use some Human ingenuity to use the blade on the Gerber - like, oh, use the FREAKIN' EDGE OF THE TABLE as a cutting surface. Kids these days.... :/

  • Wow! I'll have to remember to bring my table with me next time I hike into the backcountry. It's fine that you're a Gerber fanboy but at least own up to it. Why would I want to buy a multitool that requires me to use the edge of the table if there's one that lets me cut wherever I happen to be? By the way, the fact that you're formulating an answer right now proves you are either a fanboy or a troll!

  • No fanboy here - I'm not the one making videos of my MultiTool and not a troll either, and I only need one MT. Getting a good cut with an MT in field use requires improvisation. Well duh. I've used my Gerber 600 for over 10 years with hard use and it still works fine. The Charge is cute though, nice and shiny; think I'll pick one up for the wife. Thanks for sharing :)

  • you're reaaaaaaaaallly picky....

  • Guilty as charged.

  • What about SOG. I am going to purchase one in the next week or so. Either the TTI or a SOG model. Anybody prefer a SOG?

  • I hear a lot of good things about the SOG. I bet you'll be pleased with either. The determining factor for me is how much I need crushing power with the pliers. If that ranks pretty high, go SOG.

  • if you use the sissors alot you should get the surge, cause it has external sissors but there is a blade exchanger for the file and saw

  • The Surge is just too heavy to warrant the purchase. It is almost 4.5 ounces heavier than my Charge.

  • I think crap may be a harsh word. They certainly are affordable and, if you can't afford a Leatherman, you would probably be pretty happy with the Gerber but like I said, you'd be better off saving your pennies for a while and buying a better tool.

  • Gerber is crap , sorry to inform you that fellas, go for leatherman or victorinox if you want a good quality tool.

  • the charge vs those tools is like the vet vs mustang now the carge vs mp800 legend would be more fair but the gerber hase more options

  • Thanks for the quick response and the cool videos. I swear when I looked at your channel page earlier that video wasn't there... who knows with YouTube though.

  • @ZRat89 A message for all video posters, I think I'm speaking for most people here, Post facts, not opinions, And we do not go to these web site to here about your personal ideas or what you think. That being said, thanks for taking the time to post your reviews to help inform others.

  • Respond to this video... think about this, If i were to ask, which is the best sports car, A vet, or a mustang, everyone would say the vet is king and the mustang can't compare. Wonder why then the mustang out sales the vet ten to one. Could it be price? A 4,000 dollar rifle is better than 1200 dollar rifle, but most people figure the 1200 dollar modle will do good enough to get the job done.

  • Great comparison video Shecky. Gerber multi tools seem kind of toy-like or gimmicky to me, but to each their own. What happened to the great BM940 video you had? Take care.

    -Zach

  • Check my channel page. It's still there.

My view is the same for the Gerbers. The steel is very soft and the tools are not really well conceived. At best, you can say they are pliers with some additional tools.

  • The Gerber's scissors are always Fiskars, considering that Fiskars owns Gerber ^^.
