This is great! As Mr. Faron Young once stated; "the so-called country-western" music that is created during his last years & I will add "presently"....WTF !! My time & money goes with these guys when I can catch up with them....Love that Ray Price...hey Willie, you too, watch that fire & smoke signals....love you man!
When the NIGHT LIFE album came out, it was barred from play on a lot of C&W stations as it was said NOT to be C&W. It was straight Blues and Jazz! Hell that & swing is ALL that Bob Wills ever played! Night Life still fills Texas dance floors even today!
I know that Willie wrote the song, but I would have preferred it if they had just let Ray Price sing it here. Probably the best male voice in country music history.
@chenbaiwan there's an interesting story about that -- willie wrote it, but he doesn't get any royalties because he sold it to another songwriter for $150 when he was dirt poor. you'd think he would hate singing it !
when country was country with singers like Ray Price ,,Faron Young ,, Don Gibson,,,and so forth,,, when was the last time you heard any one try to sound like a singers band like we did with cherokee cowboys ,,buckeroos,,, troubotours ,,, and so on,,,, its a shame no wonder people can't pick today ,, unless its wrote down ,, no feeling ,, LOve this
I've always loved this song by Ray - Is that Merle just standing there? It would be good to hear him sing a line or two (unless I've missed it). Ray sounds just as wonderful today as he did when I first heard him sing Crazy Arms 40 years ago. Thanks for this. - Paula
That's not Buddy Emmons on the steel. He played on the original, but this is the steel player for Asleep at The Wheel who was the back up group for this tour.
Migawd this is fantastic, and that HAS to be Buddy Emmons on steel....it's so dark I haven't seen the steel player yet. Gonna watch it again, but THIS is the country I grew up with, and like so many of the others who's comments I've read.....I MISS IT!
WHOA! I was in Renfro Valley KY a couple years ago and the week AFTER I was there, Ray was to perform. I missed him by a week. I was later told that he plays Renfro Valley frequently. You listen to this and then the modern JUNK on the radio...country died! It's dead!
Ray rules! I love him. I've also come to respect Willie because he also clearly loves Ray. While just standing there, Merle was also playing guitar!
