... as you said if you want open yourself to people you have to at least learn some basics as time pass you improve your pronunciation in many ways. I think also that's how you show the respect to there language.
From my point of view is logical, if you want to live in foren country you have to learn language. I totally understan korean people and they're right. Who else will stand by there language if not by them selves.
How do you go to live/work in another country without learning the language? What kind of job would you have where you wouldn't need to speak at least some basic Korean? lol
I'd feel way intimidated being so isolated by the language barrier, not to mention (like you said) it just goes a long way to show the people of the country you actually care about being there and being a part of the culture.
If I went to Korea I'd basically want to forget English. :P
lol i just started learning korean a few months ago but i could understand what you said! yayy! i was so proud of myself but i still have a LONG way to go. korean's a really hard language to learn! anyways, congratulations about learning korean :D
in america, ppl think it's weird i'm trying to learn korean, even though there's a significant korean population where i live hahahha
man it sounds similar to Japanese :D but of course Korea and Japan aren't separated by much.
I like both countries but I'm wondering which one I'd like to visit one day, turnoffs of Japan is the crazy work and it seems that adults have no fun there....
At least reading Korean letters is easy, it need just several hours or less.
And just memorize several simple life's sentences to talk. and expand gradually.
Many young Koreans can understand simple english so you guys can use simple english as well.
And all the Korean city halls have english Help Call Center for foreigners, thus you guys can use it through a phone, remember each of a city hall call number where you live in. and have english website, you can obtain lots of useful information.
Hi Kerri!!! ^^ I just wanted to tell you how happy this video made me! I've always been an enthusiatic + optimistic when it comes to languages and diferent cultures! and watching this video makes me want to keep learning korean by myself. Also, in my country there's only one place where I can go to learn korean so I started to look down on it, and this video encouraged me again to do it on my own! Thanks ♥
Does anyone of you ever felt afraid to speak up the language even though you know how to? Sometimes you're just scared that you'll say something wrong and you don't know? I'm like that every time :(
@bloom263519 Koreans are familiar with immature Korean speaking foreigners, and understand them well, moreover young people understand simple english as well. :)
They say that the eyes are the window to the soul...you have such beautiful eyes. I truely adore your personality. This was just a wonderful video, truely pulling on the heart strings.
I really don't understand how people can move to a country and not make an effort to learn the language! It completely takes away from the whole experience if you don't try to socialize and what not. I really want to teach in Korean once I finish graduating. I'm already trying to teach myself Korean. It's quite difficult. I honestly get so lost at times because it's overwhelming but when I hear Korean or read it and actually understand it's SO fulfilling and motivates me to keep on! :D
:D Thanks. Youre like a dose of encouragement :D Thanks! I started learning Korean because its a nice sounding language, i wanted to understand KPop, I love asia, i like korean clothes, and i love languages.
I've started learning korean, because my life as a ordinary german high-school student is amazingly boring and I was interesting in Hangul as an alphabet in the first place. Now it has become my hobby :)
not to be mean, but I don't like foreign teachers who go to Korea to pay off their school loans and take advantage of the economy and job market without spending time to learn Korean culture and the Korean language. No offense, but it just makes me think that they're spending the least effort to get maximum benefits.
i travel to the philippines frequently. all filipinos speak english. but i started learning tagalog and visaya because it shows respect to the filipino people and they really warm up to you quickly when you take the effort to learn their culture and language.
True. I have experienced all of those questions on an elevator with ajumma and ajossi. Sometimes I respond, but then they use words I don't know, which my response is 몰라 or morugessumnida.I guess my reason for learning is to communicate Thanks for the great video
Thank you for sharing this with us Kerry. It is the same for me here in South Brasil. I was two years in Germany and I know what you mean. To better understand so different people it really worth learning another language.
For me it is time to learn Korean and, if possible, Korean people. They are really amazing, is not it? let's try.
I've been learning Korean for about two years and a half and my Korean level is ''intermediate'' I've been to Korea once but not for long (for about a week) so I don't really get to practice it between my Korean classes XD
Exactly my thoughts! I started learning korean this year so that when I go to Korea next year I won't be so confused. I can't imagine being in a foreign country and not understand anything. Don't know how so many do it!
반갑습니다 케리 I've already started teaching myself Korean so when I visit in 2013 I should be pretty well off and when I go to teach there years later I should be pretty fluent. ^_^
케리 반갑습니다. I'm so glad I found your 채널. I have already been teaching myself Korean so by the time I visit (2013) I should be pretty well off and so many years later when i go to teach there I should be pretty fluent ^_^
i've learned that koreans will be more open and friendly with foreigners if you learn their language. like you said, they become more curious about you and want to know you more. i have many korean friends where i live due to the fact that i use my basic korean to speak to them, and they became interested in me and started wanting to talk to me more. same in the korea town in my city. i get free food at resteraunts because i know some of the language. i hope to be fluent then teach english
If you are in a foreign country, you should learn the country's language. I think it SHOULD be that way. Here in America, people should speak English and even the basics not just this mosaic crap that people don't care to learn or what not, speak the English language. Those people SHOULD learn Korean. It should be obligatory!
Wah, to be honest you really inspire me. I want to visit Korea, maybe even live there someday and I've recently started learning Korean. It's good to know that even if my pronounciation or accent isn't as good as it should be, my effort will count for something!
@sgal88 For ME, they luckily had a small korean language class in my college. they taught the basics, and since then, i have been learning on my own. whether it be through words i am curious about when i hear a song (i just pick up vocabulary that way. like recently I learned how to say "scary" thanks to a 2ne1 song, ha) and then there are the learn korean books that I also have.
I totally agree. I've not any intention to be living in Korea for the next I don't know... 5 or so years as I intend to study in Japan but I know for a fact speaking Korean will enhance my experience when I visit there. Plus, it's another tens of millions of more awesome people I can actually talk to!
u look like a crosss between Ryan Gosling and Alanis Morissette.
