  • pearl bailey looks like my grandmother.but chocolate instead of cinnimon

  • If they ever did a story on her... The Queen, Queen Latifah would be a GREAT Candidate!...just Saying... #ILOVETHISMOVIE

  • Her husband Louis Bellson was also a great jazz drummer. Wonder if she ever sang this to him?

  • @baldyal yeah, I bet there was nothing else he would have desired, lol

  • My grandmother and her sisters are in this part of the movie :-)

  • Dorothy Dandridge sure makes the current Hollywood " beauties" look like dogs.

  • COME SEE COOKING WITH PEARL AT THE HARLEM SCHOOL OF THE ARTS JULY 2011 STARRING SANDRA REEVES PHILLIS AND A STELLAR CAST!

  • much respect!

  • If somebody made a movie about Pearl Bailey's life like they did with Dorothy Dandridge, Queen Latifah should play her. She can sing, she can act, and she looks just like her! She's perfect!!

  • @lilmissmusic2012 I never thought of that! I definitely agree with you -- both Queen Latifah and Pearl Bailey are true knockouts with incredibly beautiful skin, and regal, long, cat-like eyes.... But in a biographical movie of a singer/performer, I think I prefer to hear the actual subject's voice used whenever possible, because it helps to conjure some of the actual magic which helped to make the person famous, don't you think?

  • @mmdillon1 That's true. :D When Jamie Foxx played Ray Charles, somtimes when Ray was singing it was actually Jamie and you couldn't even tell. Now that's getting into character!! But yeah, Pearl Bailey's talent was definately magical!!

  • The way in which they interpreted Bizet's music in this film is just genius!

  • That's Max Roach on drums. One of the great Jazz drummers,His innovations in the 50s make hi one of the most influential players .

  • AWESOME TALENT!!!!

  • This is my favorite song in the movie.

  • PEARL!!!!

  • I love seeing Alvin Ailey and Carmen de Lavallade in the background. This is them when they were getting started after having careers with Lester Horton in California!!! Beautiful moment!!!!!

  • These are some good looking people..

  • good song. that man on the left at :41 is cracking me up!

  • @AirForceGirl05 LMAO!

  • She was, however, a much better entertainer. What a great actress!

  • Pearl Bailey was so very pretty and had a gorgeous voice!

  • @manyara02 she looks like queen latifah

  • @Chaliceofchange&charliebubblesoar the girl in the pale pink wiggle dress at the bar is Dorothy Dandridge the girl in the rose print dress is an extra ... she does have some cool moves!

  • The girl dancing next to Pearl in the rose dress is gorgeous!

  • @charliebubblesoar That girl was Dorothy Dandridge!!! A legend!

  • what a great production number and the young Pearl Bailey is a revelation!

  • ...Some beautiful classy people....

  • LOVE IT.

  • Classic. Favorite perfomance, hands down!

  • Pearl was one of the few artists in this film who was not dubbed...RESPECT!

  • @ashthedash2 you know wat really sucks is that dorothy dandridge and harry belafonte were also singers but they were still dubbed :(

  • @ashthedash2 You may be under a false impression, ashthedash2; Bailey's untrained, husky voice is purposely juxtaposed with the trained, operatic voices in the movie -- but it isn't a positive commentary on her vocal ability. Using Bailey's very limited but expressive voice was necessary to allow Carmen Jones to claim an authentic portrayal of black American culture, which is the foundation of the work.

Pearl Bailey was a talented performer & a GREAT lady with a positive, joyful aura!

  • @mmdillon1 She had such amazing pipes, but agreed, untrained ones. Her high range really didn't exist. Imagine if she had have trained!

  • I always loved Perl Bailey

  • this is my fave number in Carmen Jones!

  • Thanks for posting this!!!!
