If somebody made a movie about Pearl Bailey's life like they did with Dorothy Dandridge, Queen Latifah should play her. She can sing, she can act, and she looks just like her! She's perfect!!
@lilmissmusic2012 I never thought of that! I definitely agree with you -- both Queen Latifah and Pearl Bailey are true knockouts with incredibly beautiful skin, and regal, long, cat-like eyes.... But in a biographical movie of a singer/performer, I think I prefer to hear the actual subject's voice used whenever possible, because it helps to conjure some of the actual magic which helped to make the person famous, don't you think?
@mmdillon1 That's true. :D When Jamie Foxx played Ray Charles, somtimes when Ray was singing it was actually Jamie and you couldn't even tell. Now that's getting into character!! But yeah, Pearl Bailey's talent was definately magical!!
I love seeing Alvin Ailey and Carmen de Lavallade in the background. This is them when they were getting started after having careers with Lester Horton in California!!! Beautiful moment!!!!!
@Chaliceofchange&charliebubblesoar the girl in the pale pink wiggle dress at the bar is Dorothy Dandridge the girl in the rose print dress is an extra ... she does have some cool moves!
@ashthedash2 You may be under a false impression, ashthedash2; Bailey's untrained, husky voice is purposely juxtaposed with the trained, operatic voices in the movie -- but it isn't a positive commentary on her vocal ability. Using Bailey's very limited but expressive voice was necessary to allow Carmen Jones to claim an authentic portrayal of black American culture, which is the foundation of the work.
Pearl Bailey was a talented performer & a GREAT lady with a positive, joyful aura!
Great charisma had Pearl Bailey
