  • This entire 9 minutes is a precious historical find demonstrating Lennon/McCartney song writing. Everyone should listen to the entire 8 mins :52 seconds. Read the historical facts as it was composed over 2 years and 35 takes. Listen especially just after 4 minutes. Another early take as McCartney lends his first collaboration to this great Lennon original, he plays the first notes on the newly acquired 'Melatron'. They shelved the tapes, until mid-1967 finally completed for the new album MMT.

  • @619dawson Oh man! No way! Look up The Beatles Purple Chick albums. You'll be in heaven!!!

  • Interesting that some people think that great works just pop out of a box. The reality is that all works take a lot of time, study and practice for it to take form.

  • @emaclynch trollers are everywhere :)

  • @emaclynch It's called...practice. Yeah mate...the Beatles couldn't sing. That's why they were never very successful. Although there is no cure for stupidity, you might try seeking professional help for your retardation.

  • Strawberry field is about the school for retarded youths some meteres from his home in Menlove avenue in Liverpool; - he spent a lot of time with those kids; playing with them, sitting in the treets round the house; - that is what he is singing about; and is NOT A FU.......g press lie!! about drugs....

  • now this is magic!,,hearing a song being born!! wow

  • HardRockLover: Check out Lennon's last interview (Playboy). At one point he addresses religion specifically, and while holding organized faiths at arm's length he adds "I'm certainly not an atheist." Direct quote, I believe. No need for your snobbery, my friend; your opinion's welcome, but please reciprocate; no would-be censors apply.

  • great, now i have to go find what triwsocarina said....

  • I misread the title and thought it said "Strawberry Field Demons???"

  • Love the organ demo. pure sound-on-sound recording. or at least what i did when i was a kid: playing the original tape, and adding more parts while recording to another tape recorder. Love it.

  • those chords! THOSE FUCKING CHORDS!

  • Comment removed

  • So why dont we just enjoy the magic of the music that these men made for us and just enjoy the melody and moment? Beatles forever!

  • Heaven is just a metaphor, like a parable to explain something that's abstract, which was created a long time ago. I mean wheres heaven anyway in outer space? Up in the sky? He should of sang "imagine heaven isn't as u imagine it to be" for the slow ones to get it. When u think of heaven as factual place like new jersey that's when ur in trouble and miss the point. within maybe?

  • @sooperdooperfilms there is a heaven

john was saying imagine for the world he lived in. now he is in heaven so to bad.

  • @ulyssesyoshigb John was not religious, so please dont insult him. All clues point to that he was a atheist. I mean come on look at the lyrics on 'Imagine' or 'God'. The man achieved ego death . It's Pretty obvious that he did not believe in a higher power. He evolved beyond that, and that is something every one should do. So please dont write religious comments. It's insulting.

  • @ulyssesyoshigb -there are no absolutes, and anyone who tells you otherwise is totally wrong;^)~ do you understand now?

  • why john. i wish he was still here. he had more inspirational music waiting in his soul to give to the world. but now i have something to look forward to when dying. cuz when i go to heaven, everyone will be listening to john lennons latest songs up there.

i can't wait. just about 70 more years and i will get there.

  • johnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn :(

  • he's so cute! "it's just that it goes too quiet" i love his accent :] :] :]

  • no, really, where do you download this?

  • "Every man dies.....not every man really lives..." ( Braveheart) So true. RIP John and George.

  • listening to this ytou can hear why he thought the finished recording was no good the song had way more potential than it achieved even tho its still a great record. the version with the mellotron on this is way more how the tune should of sounded dreamy + ambient

  • @CK2890 yeah i think youre right

  • I would rather listen to demo tapes from the Beatles with all their little flurps and messy lyrics and work-in-progress-ness than the completed versions of the auto-tune crap from today. This is raw. And beautiful.

  • @blackdaisies246

    totally agree :')

  • My friends all think I'm nuts cause I'd rather listen to hours of John. Paul & George's demo's collectively and as solo artists working out the kinks of a new song than the final product (which I've worn out thru the years on vinyl, then 8 track, followed by cassette, and eventually my CD's) because to me following their thought process from a melody or a couple of lines to what we as fans get to hear as "New" is sometimes a million miles away from it's genesis. Release ALL the demo's - PLEASE!

  • We come along on Saturday morning....

    ....greeting everybody with a smile....

    ...at The Odeon...

I love The Beatles to bits.

  • Sometimes I like more these demos that the final version.

  • @latgrapew They actually started playing these back in the late 80s on some Sunday morning syndicated radio show called The Lost Lennon Tapes, hosted by old L.A. Lennon pal Elliot Mintz. I recorded the show on to cassette tapes & still have them somewhere.

  • 10 people are -- no . . . I can't even think of a reason why 10 people wouldn't want to hear this.

  • What a shame their live performances were wasted by the fuckin' loud people :(

  • it sound so sad

  • fantastics! Thats Music!

  • thanks for upping this, it's the exact version I was hunting for.

  • ANGIE BOWIE vs. MIKE TYSON—I'd pay to see Angie Bowie fight Mike Tyson or even Godzilla. Like a monkey: Angela Bowie has evolved into a talented & innovative musician.

  • This song is my life.

  • This just freaking amused me!! *-* made my night completly less boring than it was <3 Beatles forever!

  • LIVING IS EASY WITH EYES CLOESED!

    MISUNDERSTANDING ALL YOU SEE!

  • George Martin is a genius as well. His orchestration was perfect.

  • George Martin is a genius as well. His orchestration was perfect.

  • 9 people dislike hearing the greatest man who ever lived work on the best song ever recorded in the history of music. WTF - Maybe they thought it says dis-i-like ?

  • Remarkable "evolution". Immortal John and the Beatles!!

  • comone the music beatle will never die XD

  • your website is dead !

  • I ♥ this takes!...so this is how did the magic...

  • What is all this nonsense about god being responsible for these great songs?! Presumably god is responsible for all the bad songs too? The beatles wrote these songs, not god! He doesn't exist for a start!

  • He wrote this in Spain during the filming of How I Won the War. This is where he adopted the famous Lennon glasses as a movie prop. He never wore glasses in public up to this point. ( He was blind as a bat.) Funny how little accidents become iconic.

    BTW, Great chord/rhythm changes.

  • The Beatles music Will never die

  • sometimes.. it dont needs a radio vision - like mixed and mastered and allreadyy finished with clear sound. sometimes...it needs ruff versions like this demo! i love it cause its so real...

  • 9 people dont like strawberries

  • We only got to hear the final versions, really great to hear how John worked his way towards the finished song. The guy was undoubtedly top of the whacko league but as always, you have to work extremely hard to get to teh top of any league! Thanks for everything John, from a fellow scouser.

  • Me encanta esta versión sobretodo del 6:15 en adelante, excelente¡

  • I got chills listening to this.

Thanks for all you've done, John-3

  • Try and paste this vid into facebook... it says you are posting SPAM. WTF?

  • john lennon and paul mc cartney really changed my life ;D

  • La spontanéité...voilà la magie...

  • Why can't people just appreciate this song the way it is without over analyzing it. Its a great song and thats it. When I feel blue it brings joy to my mood. Thats all.

  • I love this sequence so much - thanks

  • just MAGIC

  • HOY 9 DE 0CTUBRE ES TU CUMPLEAÑOS 70 FELICIDADES ERES UN GRAN MAESTRO LENNON GRACIAS POR TUS CANCIONES DE PARTE DE J.O.D.H. Y TODO MEXICO..Y EL MUNDO..

  • if it from 1966 then, how come the first pic says 1967 on the bottom?

  • @Andreanicegurl The person just used pictures of the Beatles or John from that era. They don't all necessarily dully pertain to Strawberry Fields.

  • @evinoog I was just ponting out that in the title of the video it says "Strawberry Fields Demos (1966), But in one of the photos it says 1967 so therefore it is A DEMO FROM 1966-67. DUMBASS I WASN'T SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT JOHN LENNON OR THE BEATLES, OR STRAWBERRY FIELDS. SO STUPID READ BEFORE MAKING CONCLUSIONS!

  • @Andreanicegurl It's nothing to get hung about

  • @evinoog ur opinion doesnt matter any way ur a fucking kid!

  • @Andreanicegurl Let's not get antsy, I misunderstood your comment

  • Comment removed

  • @Andreanicegurl I'm sorry I didn't know if my last comment got posted; anyway, why should my opinion be diminished based off of my my age?.

All else aside this is an awesome song ahah!

  • @Andreanicegurl u took those words directly out of strawberry fields though sire are lyrics.

  • this is the beginning of music. a day in the life was the climax of music. imagine is the alpha and the omega. only hendrix hangs with lennon, because hendrix was possesed by something when he was playing guitar. lennon was just god.

  • @ruufeeooh Hendrix was possesed by Lennon

  • appreciate the download. very cool

  • this is good but you should display picture of the beatles at that time (when this demo time)

  • Comment removed

  • "no one i think is in my tree, i mean it must be high or low" sounds exactly like the melody of its all over baby blue by dylan

  • John looks sexy with a tache, he should've kept it.

  • WOW!!and this demo was still during Beatlemania??!!

  • why tears come down my eyes when i hear?it probably remembers me my 17 years of life!

  • Every genius has a very sensitive soul, and so had John Lennon. You can hear it all the way through his voice and playing.

  • Inspired and genious however it was arrived at. Great to hear some of this while it was taking shape.

  • Love listening to John create. You can tell, "it don't come easy."

  • I always knew that bird from Plymouth was nothing but a hoe

  • who produced the solarized poster at 1:29 ?

  • @funkmasterjee Artist Rick Avedon, I believe made those famous posters.

  • I feel like I lost my mind in the strawberry fields, and I kinda like it that way.

  • a musical genius

  • what is wrong with the 9 people that dislike a beatles piece of art?

  • @trenchwarfare23 they're justin beaver fans!

  • @trenchwarfare23

People see comments like this and decide to be pricks.

  • It's sad George and John are gone, When Paul and Ringo go, music will die.

  • @triwsocarina you got that right, but i'm 11 and when i have kids i will teach them about The Beatles and maybe they will like them and do the same with their children and so on, so their music will never die.

  • @zukolover666 You have somebody in your life who plays these songs, right? Great, as a 5 or 6 year old, 1966-67, I climbed on a chair to reach the phonograph to play Beatles records. Their music doesn't get dated, you know. Especially Lennon's vocals... this song is so sublime.

  • @mezansky i have 15 of their records, and yes their music doesn't get dated.

  • @triwsocarina

    music will never die

  • @triwsocarina how the fuck are you thumbed up for such a stupid comment? yea, if we lose paul and ringo that would be sad. but music lives even after anyones death. :| "music belongs to everyone. the only people who thinks they own music are the publishers." - john lennon.

  • @rapanalyst relax dude, there still radiohead

  • @orsonmeirelles radiowhat? i don't even know any of their songs :|

  • @triwsocarina No it won't. Just turn on a beatles CD. It'll live on if we spread it :).

  • @triwsocarina - everyone's got to die. Music will go on. They've touched millions and millions more will continue what they've started.

  • @triwsocarina I wont let it.

  • @triwsocarina no music will not die, take heart,be strong,we will still have rap.

  • @dempsey981 Rap is garbage.

  • @Robbieo8 i agree,jes kidding

  • @Robbieo8 I do love this, but that is an opinion. I love Rap. (:

  • @Robbieo8 fuck off

  • @Robbieo8 rap isnt music , WHO th fuck says its music?- RAP stands for retards attempting poetry

  • @triwsocarina Ahem. Paul will never die.

  • @triwsocarina not if we keep it alive

  • @triwsocarina Don't worry, although each member will eventually die, The Beatles will live forever.

  • @jgeisler92 John & George are already having great fun up there, making jam sessions every single say, sat on their cloud...

  • @jgeisler92

    BEATLES FTW

  • @triwsocarina This music will never die. Beatles music is going to be around forever. Number one single and album on iTunes. The Rock Band set recently. The re-release of all recordings in a mono and stereo box sets, which are still available. Really these guys have not recorder together as a complete group since 1969. They are as popular today as they have ever been. This music has, and will stand the test of time.

  • @GonzoGuyy Unfortunately most of that is not true. They didn't get number one on iTunes even for a minute, and they certainly aren't as popular as ever. It's sad but true.
