@redletterchurch - if there are any truths about the universe, I think I'd rather rely on the scientific method to uncover them than to ever, ever take anything on faith.
@Pilaf1984 Indeed. When someone tells you to take something on faith, what they are really doing is telling you to trust them. Common horse sense tells us that trust is earned not given freely. Thus, they need to do something more to earn that kind of trust from you or anyone else. This is where we enter the burden of proof.
Yet, the religious consistently fail to earn trust by meeting the burden of proof. Thus, we atheists consistently fail to give it to them, we do NOT have faith in them.
It's a real theological and philosophical zoo out there - isn't it? I think that most of it is BS - but that there is a core of truth - based upon a wide variety of sources - which makes human life meaningful. Keep searching - and never, ever give up. The truth is out there. Just because a collection of books and organizations seem to make no sense - doesn't mean that there isn't a light at the end of the tunnel - which isn't an oncoming train.
