Mattias is probably one of the few original guitarists left on the planet. Phrasing, tone, control, harmonics and knowledge of odd time signatures and theory make him one of the best.

I've had that feeling a lot recently, especially when it comes to metal; that people draw lines for what music should be like. Cross those lines, and they won't listen to it even though there's a lot of talent behind it. Perhaps it's also the key of keeping music unique that people react to it.
If all he did in his music was harmonics then I would agree, but when he uses them musically, they are fine.
It's like any other technique. It's all about the proper use of them in context. Picking a single note is a technique and without adding other techniques that gets boring too. Hence phrasing, nuance, bending, staccato, and myriad other techniques serve to make things interesting! :)
you could say that with almost every guitarist, like: OMG malmsteen's using harmonic minor again, OMG gambale's sweeping again, OMG dimebag's squealing again, OMG dragonforce can't play their solos.. still
and so on and so on. this is just his style,you can get tired of it, but most of guitarist use the same tricks during their entire career, so don't bash him ;]

Eklundh actually respects malmsteen - and music should never be of competition. Mattias might be better technical (he just doesn't fire it all of at once like malmsteen) but malmsteen is still a pioneer. Also Mattias is a lot more original. People seem to be afraid of exploring other music types.

well, I have the album "rising force" and I have the G3 denver dvd with satriani, vai and malmsteen, but I get bored with Yngwie in less than two minutes, so I might've missed some sweeps. I hate when he plays far beyond the sun on that dvd, and totally destroys his own song with mindless shredding instead of the regular cool riffs.

you know what ? i agree ... for the reason im still trying to figure out why peopel are loving him. i start thinking it's only for the reason of his amzing sweep. But, the thing is, i have only heard anything from him some sounds from here and there that have TOTALLY non sense. Every note is off of the one before, it's freak how he can just not play music. Still, i dont doubt of his knowledge.

You have no idea what you are talking about. His clinics are mostly showing off technique, 'cus actually that's what people come for. His solo albums does make sense. If you can't see it, you don't know music AT ALL.

Never said I liked those odd sweeps or that they were music. Most licks sounds like crap out of context, especially those.
But hey, you'd be welcome to go out in your kitchen and try to imitate the sounds. Many guitar sounds can be imitated in silly ways (even though I must say, I salute you if you can imitate those sweeps with kitchen stuff).
You took this way to offensive. Capital letters make it look so atleast.

he knows the technique and how to play well, but his music is really bland and needs more than just sweeping and tapping riff after riff.. maybe a wider range of percussion and some different sounds and effects.. this dude could be the shitt if he had more instruments and things going on than just bass, drums, and himself. other than that i like what i heard, and he's got potential..

heh, i seriously doubt malmsteen could do anything IA does in this video, and this is far from IA:s best. I've never seen malmsteen use tremolo to much, or tapping or sweeping for that matter.

well, I have the album "rising force" and I have the G3 denver dvd with satriani, vai and malmsteen, but I get bored with Yngwie in less than two minutes, so I might've missed some sweeps. I hate when he plays far beyond the sun on that dvd, and totally destroys his own song with mindless shredding instead of the regular cool riffs.

right and wrong. Yngwie makes the same "sounds" all the time, wich can quite fast get boring. But there is structure in what he does. Just almost always the same. And he plays everything fast, just makes you bored.

I managed to decode your post, and yeah. Well if you judge him on random jams or random stuff on youtube, you can totally have that opinion. Sadly most of his best songs aren't available anywhere else than on his albums. Might upload a few to youtube though.
