Ketchum is a great writer with a great grasp of story and character. He makes, like you said, more ordinary tales extraordinary. His novel, Red, for instance--a simple revenge tale in anyone else's hands, but with Ketchum it becomes a truly involving tour de force.
Off Season was intense! I havent read Offspring yet.
