Of the original group, Eric Burdon (vocals), Alan Price (keyboard), Hilton Valentine (guitar) and John Steel (drums) are still alive. If you live in London you can hear Alan Price play at the Bull's Head, Barnes (google Bull's Head Barnes for dates). I think John Steel plays with a band called the Animals in UK but it has nothing in common with the original group. Eric Burdon is going strong but doesn't perform in Britain very often. Google Eric Burdon to find his website.
@YoungCoelacanth oh sweet thats awesome, thanks for the info. I LOVE it when the members are still alive. It really makes you think that rock has not died just yet. that was pretty random the 'the animals in the UK' reference and John Steel. But were there any members that left/joined it later on in The Animals career? at what point were they titled 'Eric Burdon and the Animals" Rather than just "The animals"?
Hi there. There were several changes to the lineup, then the original band disbanded in 1966. Then sometime in late 1966 (I think) Eric hired new musicians and called the new band 'Eric Burdon and the Animals'. Since then the name has been used for several different groups of musicians supporting Eric, including the current one. There's also a UK group called the Animals which I think has John Steel as the only original Animal. But all on information is on the net.
It's Alan Price, a very talented musican that you can still go and see if you live in London (google the Bull's Head, Barnes, and look at the gigs list). I've just done it to check and the next one is on Thursday 12 May.
Showing my age but I saw them perform live when they started out and they were a fantastic band. Eric Burdon was a great blues shouter and Alan Price was tremendous on the organ. Never bettered in their prime. This is one of my favourite tracks (from Animal Tracks LP - which I still have).
@Dagney77 Are you serious? You are online... ("I believe to my Soul" May 1965, "Ballad of a Thin Man" studio recordings June-August 1965 - quote wiki.)
@Putaspellonyou Yeah, everybody I've talked to acknowledges this - don't know if it's a coincidence or not but it's well known that some of Dylan's songs did borrow riffs from pre-existing songs. In any case I think Dylan's riff on Ballad of a Thin Man is an improvement on this one, it has more "bite"
you don't steel such emotions, if you're a human you must feel it sometimes in your life. anyway original is not Animals but Donny Hathaway , then Ray Charles then who knows who, then Animals. Please don't be offended, educate yourself.
@mikejudgenot.. yeah yeah i knew about Ray Charles.... but DYLANS highway 61 WAS HIM CATCHING UP AND COPYING ALL THING ' British''.. and this here sounds like his'' Ballard of a thin man'......his organ drivin sound was pire Animals... like a ROLLING
OMFG I ACCIDENTALLY DISLIKED THIS! SHOOT ME NOW! Luckily, I was able to 'like' it immediately, phew.
