  • nice mushroom but the music is priceless :)

  • I think you just proved they are too common to be expensive. And they don't taste that good.

  • satch kicks ass!

  • you,r a lucky m;f ,did you know that?

  • what was the fury little mammal? i live in south alabama so we dont have anything like that. weezle???

  • @Discokid715 Its a marten AKA Pine Marten.

  • Too bad you were late on this day....WOW! Great scenes though...love the Martin vlip, great tracking on the camera...Many nice buttons afterward opposed to all the flags earlier in the vid....found a juicy 11 ouncer button in the first 5 minutes that will never see Japan.... too bad the song is so negative...haha...WE CAN CHANGE THINGS!!! Sucks, there are so many cowards that don't want to cough up one crappy season of shit pay to fix it.....

  • -----What kind of animal was running up that tree? i saw one last time i visited canada, and i still dont know the name.------

  • @jerryk2198 Its a marten AKA american sable

  • @margot980 Actually, I've heard it's better not to harvest the fruiting body with a knife. Apparently if you leave a piece of the stipe still attached it renders the mycelium vulnerable to infection by alien fungus and/or bacteria through the cut. In which case it would be better to pull out the mushrooms and then trim them later.

Raking is horrible because it exposes the mycelium and dries it out, potentially killing it.

  • I thought the most expensive mushroom was the truffle

  • @bluephosi this is not a mushroom it is a tuber fungus

  • @picaticatara - fruiting body of a fungus - the most common definition of the word 'mushroom'. It even has the classic 'mushroom' shape.

  • Anyone actually eat these mushrooms? They're pretty good.

  • @redshift40 yep you got that right .... and thats why I don't visit stations anymore !

  • I love picking pine mushrooms, it's gotta be the best "Easter Egg Hunt" ever. All that beauty and serene quietness of the woods, and the profit is just a bonus. :)

  • @brigittewatts - but did you know that selling your mushrooms for $2-3 a lb. ruins the chances of getting a fair price for every picker.

  • I've a feeling it's important to use a knife to harvest matsutake, because the root system they grow from is so fragile. Just pulling them out, like people who went into the woods and raked to find them, can do a lot of damage. Think next year, someone else gathering there.

If you sell your mushrooms too cheaply, you let everyone else down.

  • wut state were you in were shooting this video

  • white truffle is the most expensive...no???maybe I'm wrong again(not trying to be a smart ass)

  • @luc649 its all in the definition of "mushroom". pines are the most valuable fresh 'mushroom', morels are pretty much the most expensive dried, and summer/black/white truffels are all worth a lot no matter what.

  • cmon shroomers, unite and just make them pay you a fair price! If they can't buy at a low price, they'll have to buy from you at the price you set!!! $1 a pound is nothing, you're better off selling them at a farmer's market at the price you set!

  • Japan used to import all matsu that picked in Oregon and Washington but nowadays they import matsu from China that's why the price went down so low. There is no high demand.

  • cant you just get a spore print and grow them?

  • whats with the paper air plain...

  • why did the price of these mushrooms drop so badly?

  • @PoliticalGangster - because pickers allowed it. They have no balls to make a stand.

  • that doesn't make sense how would the pickers cause the price to go up.

  • @ogskeetdizzle they caused the price to go down because they will sell them for $1-2 a lb. instead of a fair market price. They won't get together and stop picking at peek season to protest.

  • damn, i find it retarted that ppl think they need to make huge profits from food, that's just my point of view. i should be protesting them for trying to sell them for so much , they didn't grow them, the forest did. lol, i'm joking i wont' protest anything. but it is retarted to think someone should make huge cash off mother nature, might as well cut the forest down and be loggers, if they are that greedy, wait that's a horrible idea....

  • @ogskeetdizzle the pickers were not looking for huge profits...just a fair price for the hard work it takes to find these.

  • @redshift40

how many hours would it take one person to pick one pound of fresh pines do you think?

  • @ogskeetdizzle Yes it takes skill and dedication and knowledge to be able to ID them, and guess what, in a capitalistic economy, the idea is that skill, dedication and special knowledge earn you rewards.

  • @ariannahiggins I couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @ogskeetdizzle you really are a naive idiot... are you 6? I guess we shouldn't sell diamonds for so much since they are made from nature, as well... this is not your average mushroom, idiot... it's rare and in high demand. pull your head out of your ass an learn that rare/valuable things cost money. you can't compare matsutakes with most other food. hopefully my comment is simple enough for your small head to grasp....

  • @ogskeetdizzle you r so retarded that u cant spell retarded...retarded

  • Jeezus man! Those are fantastic mushrooms. I pick in the Cowichan Valley, but haven't come across that many in one place, very nice!

  • Should the title not read: "The World's Former Most Expensive Mushroom" (?)

  • Those were some huge buttons haven't seen any like rthat since i was last up mt. arrowsmith.

  • Excellent video. Well done. Congratulations and thanks.

  • Great video--makes me want to get out picking.

  • fuuuuuuuuuck BC is sooooo nice i wannna go back sometime just for nature alberta is ok i guess but BC slaps out wild life out of the park and stomps on it :P lol ok maybe not that bad but in alot of ways

  • isnt truffles the most expensive shroom? i think they are mushrooms

  • yeah I knew it! truffles or troffel is most expensive mushroom and you can fine it only in italy and it is vey difficult to fine it.

  • Mushrooms grow above ground. Truffles are not mushrooms. Truffles are also not only found in Italy, France for instance is famous for their Black Truffles.

  • truffles are mushrooms growing under ground and it is more difficult to fine it than pine mushrooms.impossible to fine truffles without the help of a dog or a pig....

  • Wow nice. I dont know why not rated 5 stars. Nice finds

  • no one can grow these like they grow in the wild, I'm a pine mushroom grader.

  • oooh the pinies!!!

  • thanks for the high rating.

  • can you grow these and sell them?

  • they can't be grown. They need natural pine and hemlock stands that are 60-140 years old. Best in volcanic ash or a hot burn.

  • what do these mushies taste like?

  • they taste just like they smell. I Like most mushrooms, but not pine. I hear they are better in soups.

  • what is the animal in the tree

  • That is a martin. Drives my black dog nuts. They can really travel through the trees and he will chase them a long way.

  • nass valley all the way....my fave place to pick is hamburger hill behind old aiyansh the one that got fludded out

  • Wow! gaint ones. is this in CAMADA?

    I pick in Oregon.

  • where is this spot

  • In the woods up the Nass.

  • Nice to see some pickers from my province!
