Could one skip putting in the "disinfecting tablet" without harm to the unit?

Hey wow! Haven't been on here for awhile. The greywater needs to be disinfected or the greywater will turn into blackwater within 72 hours. chlorine is the most effective way of doing this with no harm to the environment.
