i love these car dealers! hes all worried about the bumper when in reality that car is a piece of crap! why dont they worry about doing stuff like changing the transmission fluid and filter as im sure thats got origional fluid in it. Cars like this avenger just make me sick to look at. They should be burned as i think someone else said. ITs a dam chrylser for heaven sakes! yuck yuck yuck! change your dam trani fluid and stop worrying about the bumper. oh and change the engine coolant also!
Sorry but I have a 96 avenger es well over 160,000 on it never had a problem and mine is one of the fastest cars on the road in Philly sorry to say I didn't change much just put work into the shot that's stock on the engine and trans unbeleivably smooth unbelievably fast
If its the 2.5 , Its probably the Crankshaft position sensor. I dont know exactly what the car is doing but mine suddently acted weird 2 times since i got it. Just missfire alot when reaching normal operation temperature and eventually stalls. Then start just fine. Never did it again.
I have a 2000 Dodge Avenger. It is by far one of my smoothest rides I have ever owned. It may not be the fastest but it is the nicest looking cars you can easily afford. I love the Dodge Avenger in comparison to the Chrysler Sebring (same years) The Sebring is more of a chick car.
I have a 1998 avenger es and it has 180,000 i have never had a major problem with it. Sometimes when i gas it and let off the idle drops kinda low but it has never died.
Its the cam sensor located in the distributor. you have to replace the whole dist. $299 advance auto with cap and rotor. replace the crankcase sensor also for $60. its underneath the battery tray on tranny bell housing. good luck. I promise thats it.
As a car aficionado, I am frequently asked what the worst car company is. I always say that every company makes good cars and bad cars, but Chrysler is, in my opinion, the worst car company by far. Especially DSMs.
You know, this seems to be a consistent problem with the Mitsubishi 6G7 series engines. We had two Caravans, a 1988 we bought new and a 1994 we bought pre-owned with 30K miles. Each had the larger 3.0L Mitsubishi 6G7. Both had stalling problems. The 88 did it within the third year of owning it. They had a ton of other problems later on too. After those two maintenance nightmares never again will I buy a Chrysler.
well i can see why the person traded this in the person prolly knew it was due for some repairs and got smart and traded it off i would say it may have a clogged fuel filter or the fuel pump aint working not sure cause i hate these cars cause i cant fit in one they just too small lol
Good to know that the Avenger wasn't really a good car. I almost got one when I was about 17. Glad I didn't get one. I didn't wanna be sitting at a red light and have my car die and have 8 people behind me yelling at me to go.
@XenomorphLV426 ummm I think you may be referring to the 3.2. Although I'm not familiar with these engines, I've heard nothing but bad news about these older mitsu engines :/
@saabkyle04 the 2.7 V6 engines are the ones that give the sludge problems along with Timing Chain/water pump failures. Some people get them to last 200k+ but most seize up and are locked way before that. Whats surprising is when those engines are running fine they're silky smooth. As smooth as a the VQ30 engines in the Nissans.
Strange. I read up on past Dodge vehicles and the Avenger certainly didn't do well with Consumer reports in terms of reliability or engine performance after a long period of time (years)
-Takes car to mechanic-.... Kyle: Hi sir, Im here to pick up my 2000 avanger. Mechanic: Oh yeah! It took quite some time but we were able to diagnose the problem sir! Kyle: Well what seems to be the problem sir? Mechanic : We have determined a major issue with the motor sir. Kyle: What is it sir? Mechanic : Its a mitsubishi motor sir! Kyle : Uh oh!
I noticed the door handles are different colors. The drivers side is black and the passenger side matches the rest of the exterior. It would look so much better if they both matched the exterior color.
At least that car would have stalled in a parking lot. We had an '01 Honda Odyssey that had a transmission issue, the transmission overheated in the middle of a major highway and the car would not accelerate at all. The D4 light kept blinking, the transmission slipped, knocked, it pretty much was totaled. LOL
i can just smell the coolant burning as i watch this video!
