Now for protein use Rep-Cal Herpitve with BETA CAROTENE Multivitamins and use Rep-Cal Phosphorous-Free Calcium with Vit.D Ultra POWDER (this is what it
Lack of calcium causes pyramiding but too much calcium can cause it too. If your calcium has vitamin d3 in it it's best to only use it once a week. I don't like to use calcium with d3 since I take my tortoise outside for an hour 2-3 times a week. d3 is just given due to lack of sunlight. Also you should have UV lighting. I like Megaray mercury vapor bulbs.
@herplover123 Terrible. It is worse than real sand. Never use sand for any reptile. I recommend newspaper, cypress mulch, coconut coir (not coconut fiber they are different) and organic top soil. Those are great substrates.
your sulcata is beautiful. My sulcata (kahlan) came to me from captivity after about 1 or 2 years of her life. She is another 2 inches bigger than yours at the moment but also has a bit of pyramiding which i am trying to reverse. Ill have to post my habitat sometime. it works great for her, though she is going to outgrow it : )
@lrdrahl88 It is hard to reverse it but if the tortoise is over 3 inches you can let it walk in your backyard and spray it gently with a water hose every 20 minutes. It helps lower the pyramiding. You can also try giving minimal calcium because too much will make the scoots rise quicker.
