well if you think eric clapton or alex lifeson are bad guitarrists because they play "diagonal" you must tell them too. You can't practise that, is part of the style. My thumb shouldn't appear too, but im not playing classic guitar.
Paul Gilbert plays "diagonally" and he is about the best Shredder I've heard. If you are rising up a scale in one string it is a lot easier to do it "diagonally"

Well, the guitar is in drop C and i played it with delay, it's so important the 24 frets?. I use this guitar instead my Ibanez RG550 because it's easier to use a different tunning. By the way, Alex Lifeson play this solo and i dont think he cares too much about the 24 frets. you dont have any idea about this?

If only John Wesley played it that well live. When I saw them live a year ago, it was pretty apparently he hadn't quite gotten it down yet...
