  • SPRINGSTEEN VERSION IS BETTER. SHUT THE FUCK UP EVERYBODY

  • @xXpartysofiXx PEOPLE HAVE OPINIONS. SHUT THE FUCK UP FANBOYS

  • @digiguilmon Oki doki

  • only white people like bruce springsteen.

  • @ChesterDoraemon Only white people have good taste?

  • @FredPilcher you fail.

  • @ChesterDoraemon Hmm i wonder why there were three black guys in his band originally then? It's probably because you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

  • @ColtonCernyMusic black people will do anything if you promise them drugs or white women. your point is irrelevant. apologize for being an idiot.

  • @ChesterDoraemon I feel sad for how far you have to go to become at least a decent person.

  • I really enjoyed it, hearing live, vs radio loved it when it first came out, and love it today....

    karenkimber44@yahoo.com The Boss Still Rules

  • Sorry Bruce, Love all your other work but Manfred Mann Just absolutely nailed this song,

oh and before any accuses me of being young and therefore not listening to decent music, Bruces greatest hits is my most played album on my phone

  • @15andypandy If you put Bruce's voice to Manfred Mann's arrangement but without the keyboard, you'd have the best possible version. Maybe a version for a later studio session?

  • the choice i made to click dislike was a hard one considering that bruce springsteen wrote a badass song, but preforms it terribly compared to manfred mann...

  • Thank god Manford Mann did made this song decent, this sucks.

  • @molds9 must be nice to be 9 years old and only worry about which finger you're gonna use to pick your nose today

  • @molds9 I just gave this comment a thumbs up, I was mean't to click the thumbs down button. I just thought you should know.

  • Bruce sings, "Cut loose like a deuce" where Manfed Mann changed it to "Revved up like a deuce".

  • I give it to Bruce. It has more feeling. He doesn't sing. He testifies.

  • Bruce Springsteen is GOD, guess we know who's going to hell!!

  • Great to watch ! Positive vibes all around !

(apart from some people who decided to 'boo' , for reasons I don't understand)

  • @123ThisIsMe I'm pretty sure they're saying "BRUUUUUUUCE" :)

  • im not at all a fan of bruce springsteen but id choose this version of manfred mann's

  • Wrapped up like a douche.

I always thought that's what they said.

  • Bruce Springsteen owes a lot of respect to Manfred Mann. Bruce can write good songs, but he doesn't have a singing voice. It would be better if Bruce just wrote and let Manfred do the performing.

  • @VintageRetroNeatStuf

How are you even able to write such crap with no brains at all?! If you need good singing voices just go and listen to your bullshit pop for the masses but hell, don't pretend you really got an opinion to know something about music, cause you don't.

  • @rnrdemon It's a matter of opinion. I happen to like STP's version of "Dancing Days" more than Zeps version.

  • @VintageRetroNeatStuf Bruce has a great voice. Listen to Born to Run, Born in the USA, Glory Days, Dancing in the Dark, I'm on FIre, My Hometown, Chicken Hips and Lizard Lips, Brilliant Disguise, Radio Nowhere, and The Rising.

  • @VintageRetroNeatStuf I can write a book in response, but I'll just say you don't have a clue.

  • i know what version i prefer, sorry bruce but they nailed your work

  • lol he was definetely in rising mode when he sung this

  • Bruce isnt my fave by any means, but I got to give it to the guy, he is a good songwriter/performer.

  • Great live version. He played this when I saw him in 2008. Although it was just him on his own for the song, it was INCREDIBLE :)

  • Yeah, there's only one version of this song, and your listening to it.

  • I have and will always like bruce springsteen but i have to say i like the manfred mann version better. Sorry

  • Bruce produced the Manfred Mann version, the "douche" comment was a joke. Ask most people who are sining along what the words are & they will say Douche... he also said the only thing wrong with the song was there were not enough words... again a joke, the song lyrically is crazy long.

  • The one thing you are all missing, regardless of who's version you prefer. Bruce wrote & recorded the original version & he actually produced the Manfred Mann Version...He was also joking about the "Douche" comment. Get a grip, it's only rock 'n roll, don't take it so seriously... and if you are going to take it seiously for Gods sake, please try to know what you are talking about. Merry Christmas everyone. Bruce rocks & he was a Manfred Mann fan before he made it big himself.

  • What REALLY makes the Manfred Mann version so stupid, is (as Bruce loves to point out) is that the brilliance of this song lies in the stark juxtaposition of the conversion of Paul the Apostle on the road to Damascus "blinded by the light" and this incredibly iconic American image of the two seat race car full of kids out on the strip ("cut loose like a deuce")... cut loose like a "douche" would seem to indicate something pretty nasty

  • @TBThom Yeah, you say it is stupid, look at the differece in sales though >.>

  • whats he have stuck in his arse

  • Like any song Bruce wrote that was covered by another band, Bruce does it better.

  • happy birthday brooooceeee

  • The original version off "Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ" is better than this.

  • After listening to Manfred Manns version this sounds like a lame coverband version.

  • @TheFunnyBanana are you kidding?

  • wow theres a reason manfred manns version is popular

  • @under0e I like the Manfred version it is just epic... just wanted to hear the original...

  • Much better than Manfreds by Miles!!!

  • Manfred Mann's version is MUCH BETTER. Sorry Bruce :(

  • Not really sure how Bruce can "piss" on a song that HE wrote.

  • @bleanster cuz bruce can do anything he wants, he earned that right many many years ago.

  • @TheCottonTop

Your ignorance shows us what an uneducated idiot you are. Read something before you open your mouth.

  • I love the last line of the first verse... And a love-shot forget-me-not whispered, "Daddy's within earshot, so save the buckshot, turn up the band!!" LOL. Priceless.

  • does anyone know the key?

  • Isn't it A minor?

  • I'm fairly sure it's in E.

  • I play it in E

  • Bet it sounds like ass...

  • well yes it sounds spankin' good as a matter of fact

  • I bet lol

  • it's in E, I thought ,yeah

  • Bruce is one crazy person when it comes to Preforming live.

  • Bruce had some weird dancesteps in this video

  • manfred manns version is garbage

  • BRUUUUUUCE!!!

  • fuck manfred mann they couldnt even get the lyrics right. infact their version makes no sense

  • Mann just got friggin schooled! (=

  • uhm this sucks compared to manfred mann's version? x)

  • How does he remember the lyrics to this fantastic song?

  • It's not true. What is true is your total failure as a critic. Get a life.

  • I love all tthe disc that you mentioned and I do prefer those but his later material is just as good. I saw him last night in LA, he STILL has his fireand he is still the Boss!!!

  • I've been listening to Bruce since I first heard him in 1975. I went to concerts on college campuses when you could still get a ticket at the door. He was great then and has the highest standards when it comes to his concerts. Bruce and the E Street Band have played their music with passion and I absorb every minute I can. Bruce has his own statiion on Sirius Satilite Radio. Bruce 24/7 replaying live concerts and rare recordings of songs we would hear on old bootlegs. Check it out.

  • Bruce Springsteen encompasses a type of music so many will never understand...

  • i fucking love Bruce Springsteen

  • I'll re-edit my comment. Born in the USA is a different kind of patriotism than the flag waving anthem that people thinks it is. Born in the USA is about going to fight for your country, to have your life changed by war, only to come back and be spat upon by the country you fought for. Powerful song.

  • he wrote the fuckin song, Manfred Man butchered the shit out of it.

  • Well you certainly demonstrated how many different ways fucking can be used in a sentence. I'm not even going to come up with a snappy come back I'm just really impressed. wow. But seriously you made me believe that Springsteen sucks though. Nice work I hate him now too.

  • Bruce is not just some patriot. Clearly you're just another narrow minded idiot who thinks Born in the USA is a patriotic song. How bout you actually listen to all the words before making such a stupid assumption. Don't judge an artist by one song, Springsteen's most popular songs are not his best. For that you should check out the 'Darkness on the edge of town' album. One of the most bleakest and most powerful albums ever. check them out, then tell me Springsteen needs a fucking life!

  • Look. I've heard of many opinions on Born it the USA. Some people say its about never giving up. I dont really care about the meaning. It happens to be a great song anyway

  • noo i agree so much manfred made it sound legendary..

  • Who else does this song remind them of "Like A Rolling Stone"

  • some brimstone baritone anti-cyclone rolling stone preacher from the east. sounds like he's talking about dylan

  • "give me some piano" he's the best!

i don't think that thing "Manford Mann" can lead a band like bruce does.

  • absolutely brilliant, Bruce is truly the greatest singer and songwriter of all time!!!!

live he is just about the greatest musician ever!

  • are we forgetting the boss wrote this song?????

  • this is the best...I really cannot stand Manfred Mann's version but especially cannot stand people who don't realize the Boss wrote it..I saw him play it at Giants Stadium in July, it was amazing.

  • revved up like a douche?

  • it sounds like he says woke up like a douche

  • Bruce is amazing live!!

  • Whoever says bruce isnt good in concert is ignorant. even if u dont like his music he puts on the best show out of any performer ever. and his version is better.

  • Bruce's version is a straight up rock song as rock was intended, while Mann's is generic 70s synth pop. It just depends on what your musical taste is, but i'd take a faster tempo, more guitar, and emotional singing over a synth riff and studio glossed vocals any day.

  • Manford Mann did that with a few artists. the redid a song of Ian Thomas' - The Runner - the title track. Also another song , "Hold On" off that album was redone by another artist - Santana.

  • alakazam, do you understand what the song is about? Obiviously neither did Manfred Mann. He even changed the word deuce, meaning deuce coupe to douse. On a weak day Springsteen will sell more cds and concert tickets than Mann will in a life time.

  • I dont think manfred mann changed the lyrics, I think he just says it a little differently. just my opinion

  • This verson that Springsteen is performing makes him sound like a whiner. Other than that, Alakazam, you can not critisize the source of Manfred Mann's success. If it were not for this song, no one would have ever heard of Manfred Mann post 1960's. YOu might as well consider them a one hit wonder because you never heaard of any of their work after thier cover of this song. Early Springsteen work brought rock back to it's raw and edgy origins, not over produced tripe such as Manfred Mann.

  • deuce/douse: two different words with two different pronunciations. why change the lyrics from kinda making sense to putting in words that have nothing to do with anything? research before you try and sound smart.

  • why go to his concert when i can see Conan Obrian and The Sopranos on tv for free...!!!

  • Mann's version is almost incalcuably better. This is weak Bruce, he does other things better - like write songs.

  • I think that you don't know how well Bruce performs until you see him live - it is AMAZING!!

  • Manfred Mann's version is so much better than this one. In the same way Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower is better than Dylan's. Actually even more so. In fact Manfred Mann's version is the only one that matters in rock history. Mann's version is a rock staple. Thanks to Bruce Springsteen once again for providing the lyrics and a lot of emotion but no good melody or dynamic memorable riffs.

  • I respectfully disagree. This was obviously one of Springsteen's more roughed up and polished songs since it came from his first album, but it wasn't bad. I enjoyed the internal rhyme and the random beat. I thought Manfred Mann's version was too polished, but obviously thats just a difference of opinion that won't change.

  • To each his own. Manfred Mann's version is a psychadelic trip man. I love it. I like the Born in the U.S.A. album and the streets of Philadelphia song. I also like Melissa Ethridge's version of Born to Run.

  • Manfred Man sucks

  • He didn't join, he founded the band, and he kept rock n' roll alive. These words are purely biographical, you should look up later lyrics that have more to do with people if you want great lyrics. Not that these aren't great; the rhyming structure is DENSE and INTENSE!

  • Can't write memorable riffs? Gimme a break- what a stupid comment. You're saying you wouldn't recognize Born to Run, Hungry Heart, or Born in the USA (just to name a few). Certainly the audience knows the words, and better yet, they know the stories behind the words. What makes Bruce so great is that he writes great poetry to accompany the great tunes.

And Manfred Mann is a nobody without the Boss.

  • How much Springsteen have you actually heard?

  • Fair enough

  • Just trying to get a reaction are we?

  • No actually I was going to dress up like Steven Van Zandt for Halloween but I was afraid everyone would think I was a gay pirate. lol!

  • same lyrics. Bruce is just more fluid than Chris Thompson

  • Bruce is The Boss, Manfred Mann's lyrics are a gobbly mosh of nothing. Bruce rocks the poetry.

  • manfred mann's earth band did it good too ...

but the boss ist THE BOSS !!!

    great song

  • <3

You can't compare Bruce to that Manfred Mann.

    Bruce is THE BOSS

  • ok first of all, youset whatever the fuck ur # ares but manfred manns earth band is techno first off. 2nd off, they stole 3 song of him. made all songs shitty. also, i was looking at rolling stones top 500 rock song, i didn't see anything that said manfred mann so please, theres actually no argument.

  • ya just like the reason bruce s known as the boss and mannfread gay mann r known as the interns

  • There's a reason why Mann's version hit number one and this one didn't.

  • Yeah, because Mann's version used 70's gimmicks, I seriously doubted people listened to the message like they do when Bruce sings it.

  • Bruce wrote it, without that, they would'nt had hit number one?

  • It's also because this was on Springsteen's first album - people didn't know him yet.

  • @ JDISNUT:

Manfred Mann: 54321, Pretty Flamingo, The Mighty Quinn, Sha La La, Do Wah Didddy Diddy, Davi's on the road again...

  • It don't matter which you guys like better....I believe Bruce wrote it......so vocally better or not, it's his song, and a good one at that.

  • Bruce Springsteen: Blinded By the Light, Born to Run, Born in the USA, Jungleland, Dancing in the Dark, Rosalita, Backstreets, Radio Nowhere, I'm on Fire, Sandy..

Manfred Mann: Blinded by the Light and ??????????????

    so shut the fuck up

  • You so much got a point there! :D

..and Bruce does it better live, compared with the Earth Band.

  • pardon me, *number 1 single"

  • I have to agree with dirk diggler here!

  • hell ya i agree with you all the way buddy

  • Manfred Mann`s 70`s version was superb and hit number one in the U.S. charts. They never get any credit for what was a great, rocky version, with bluesy Chris Thompson on lead vocals. Use your ears, y`all, be fair, Manfred`s version was the best. Bruce seems to be taking the piss whenever he plays it. Don`t know why, he made a lot of money out of it.

  • I am in complete agreement with you. Manfred Mann's version was far superior and one of my favorites from the 70s.

Having said that, I wonder if one's favorite version is a function of which version they heard first. My favorite is the Mann version, but the I never heard the Springsteen version until now.

  • It's not all about the money, you fool. Bruce made it. Bruce felt it. Bruce is in it! You're really saying that Manfred sings better about Bruce then Bruce himself.. I just don't get it, how you can say something like that? Hope you're kidding.

  • Manfred man didn't write the song though,

He is the origin of "blinded by the light" and does it so much better.

  • manfred mann were unoriginal, this song is amazing, and springsteen wrote it. and all along he was able to joke about how they got most of the credit, now that is great kind of musician, he's playing for his fans, not himself. so wipe your ass with that, this version is amazing, and gets different viewers.

  • go die.

    buce is THE BOSS !

  • I am already dead and so are you my Canadian friend our continent of North America will soon perish when the rise of the beast comes fourth and takes us all to HELL!

  • ew, you fuken pathetic emo.

havent you heard of living for the day??

    go rot.

  • what the fuck are u talking bout?

just cause i listen to the boss makes me an emo? and living for the day.......ok i was just commenting on my fave musicians song, i dont see where ur going saying such crap as u did. idiot

  • This was March of 2003 in Rochester, NY. I was there and he talked after the song was done about the fact Manford Mann changed some of the lyrics. I could not believe he was doing it. Wow people were going nuts. Bruce had a bad stage mix that is why he wanted to here piano. He was telling the monitor guys "give me some piano"

  • woooo rochester!!!!! i use to live there!

  • this appears to be the Blue Cross Arena during The Rising tour. More boss stuff at mybrucespringsteen

  • Talk about rare. What year was this??

  • 1982 nebraska tour

  • Well according to the book Backstreets. The Boss only played Jersey on the so called Nebraska tour and never played this song during it. The Video has Little Steven and Nils so I'm thinking this was not what you said.

  • no one beets the boss

  • Manfred Mann's Earth Band sounds so much better at this song! Springsteen sucks!

  • yeah, but they never had the brains to write a great song while he did :)

  • springsteen didn't write that song!!!

  • "springsteen didn't write that song!"

Springsteen certainly did write it. It was written and recorded for his first album -- "Greetings From Asbury Park". Manfred Mann recorded it two years later.

  • check your records :) its THE BOSS!!!

  • WTF!!!!

  • I do agree with you there!!!

  • This was old school rapping...when you actually had to sing the words!-Go Bruce!
