No offense but there's an extremely quick way to debunk the notion that the Soviet Union was "socialist." The main part of socialism is worker's control of production, in the Soviet Union it was the state that controlled production, not the workers.

By that definition in fact, the US was more socialist than Russia.

@AltaicUnity You can't blame the political failures of the government on the economic system if the economic system is separate from the government. with capitalism, the government has little intervention, but with socialism, corporatism, communism, etc. the government is in control of the economy, so the blame IS to the State in the situations of teh USSR, North Korea, and so on. and im pretty sure guns, germs, and steel killed the native americans, not the free market ;)
