Hi. I am a new subscriber to you and I just wanted to say that I work for a company that has recently started outsourcing from here in the U.S. to China. They are laying off their employees here for cheaper labor in China so I am actually feeling this thing on the other side.
u look more like a teachere giving knowledge to theworld hahahha dont mind on it i was just kidding anyway i loved ur entry by saying the welcom speach
Out sourcing hase been going on for hundreds of years.Africans was inslaved and brought to america to do work that once was done by white handsmans, that traveled the country sides for work on other white farmers farms.
And regarding the outsourcing injustice, to my opinion, it involves a great deal of racism, too. It appears to me, that although they are used to exploit also white people, they even feel less guilty (and thus more comfortable) in exploiting asians. And because of the distance, they don't even need to fear riots...
About hide and seek, I don't remember how far we did count. I think we negotiated the rules anew every time. ;) And I liked to put false hints before I actually hid, like with the bed "stuffing" in your video. ;)
I don't understand u r talking abt NIKE or MONEY..........L@@K if u want NIKE shoe just buy simple shoe & wright "nike" on it & if u want money then keep on working & save money to buy NIKE..........simple the best........
Certainly, if you stop buying Nike shoes all it means is all those women are without any job at all and they spiral into far deeper poverty.
What we really need is business leaders that understand these issues (and opportunities) and place responsibility at the core of their business strategy.
Those are my thoughts, just maybe a bit too much serious dialog for this discussion!
I think increasing numbers of companies do understand this. And if Nike don't they will lose in the long-run. A competitor will move in and offer those slightly higher wages knowing that it's right in the long term.
GSM9008, I'm not sure if the local economy alone can always provide the jobs. Can an economy always grow itself or are there times when the opportunities of the global economy is the only way to build that local economy? Or perhaps at least the easiest?
But it is only really the first step if it allows her to invest in the health and education of her children (i.e. develop capital). Then those children can go on to have an even more skilled job and Nike can outsource that to Indonesia. Everyone wins.
So it is most definitely the company's responsibility (plus it actually makes business sense for them!) to ensure the wage is sufficient to allow positive development and progress for that woman, those women, that community, that economy.
maladiya, I like the idea of counting by 5s! Teaching times-tables at the same time!
But on the serious point kittykattykoo (that was hard to say!), I agree that it is a very complex situation.
If one of these women had nothing before, then even a job in a factory with a pitiful wage is better. It may mean she can at least provide basic needs. 2 meals a day is better than 1!
The bottom line is: this job could be the first step up the ladder.
thats d reason y its made in indonesia i blieve or else nike would b made for high rpofile only dont worry we can buy our home made canvas if its too expensive nvm
you are really cute .. and i buy nike every week and never paid less that 60 and highest i paid it 150 wow .. its rip off . they manufacture it in about 7 then maybe its like 10 dollar for each piece shipping .. and total 17 and they make like 50 + profit and they pay 1 dollar each day .. i spend like 10 dollar a day .. shit its messed up
Alas the corruption in govt and illiteracy of citizens is not helping the situation, also the failure to provide decent employment in absence of foreign corp., by local commerce and industries is responsible.
i am not sure but in US, i think it is ;pick-a-boo, where are you ?
To your dilemma the, solution is with the countries government which should try to put mutually beneficial trade agreements in place so to make the labor attractive to the foreign manufacturer and at the same time should ensure the fair wages are paid.
Count and shout (if you're playing fair) "Ready or not, here I come!" What are other favorite childhood games in Japan? Duck, duck, goose! is another popular American game.
Hello, In Norway(my homecountry) we usualy decide how long to count, f.example 100, we count to 100 loud so they all can hear it, how muhc time they got left to hide, when the person that is counting is done, he yells "100!!!!" and the runs out to find the person.
Norway is a import coutry, we recieve items from china mostly. I agree totaly with you!
I was hoping to find a continuation of your talk on outsourcing but didn't find it. Good start. I tried piecework sewing in Hong Kong for a day and didn't make enough for even one meal. Any ideas for solutions? Aloha :)

The hiders have to run back to the base without getting touched by the person who is looking. (Kind of like ONI?!)
I always got stuck playing with the unfair kids... they would count "one, two, skip a few, ninety-nine, a hundred" and then they would say "Ready or not hear I come!" But, I think that what is going on with these factories is much sadder and much more unfair. Thanks for talking about this.
Sounds like Fairtrade certification needs be extended into the textile, clothing and footwear industry. Farmers in developing countries are earning a living wage and given fair conditions thanks to Fairtrade.
Hi ::smiles:: When I played hide and seek with my siblings growing up we just counted to either 10. Or counted to 100 by 5's. Then we said ready or not here i come. Then we either open our eyes or uncover them and get to looking. ^_^
90% (or maybe more) of the things in the US are made overseas in Asian countries...it sucks because lots of American's don't know what goes on in those factories. Then when we have places like Wal-Mart selling it at an affordable price, theres not much we can do. American made products are hard to come by.

I always make an effort to buy things produced locally.
It's pretty difficult to do. Recently, I went out to purchase basic house items, returning with only one "Made in USA" item, a broom.
The rest were produced in China.
My gf's brother offered me to take me to the Nike factory in Central Java, I declined... now I regret it. It would have been interesting to see it.
In the US, we count usually count to 20... then shout, "Ready or not, here I come!"
