  • Accurate as hell Tube Tone, Parametric mids, 3 memory slots, spectracomp, Aux in, AES/EBU connector, S/PDIF compatible, integrated tuner.... There is no competition here. TC RH450 is the superior amp for the price. If you think Genz benz sounds better, just think about it for a sec. its the only one with a real tube preamp inside. of course it's going to sound fuller with similar settings to the other amps... but how flexible is it in comparison to the TC?.... yeah thats what I though.

  • @KaslarProductions @KaslarProductions In a nutshell - TC RH450: jack of all trades, master of none. Depends what you wish to get from an amp, I suppose. I set up my GB before a gig and then leave it, and it does the sound that I want fantastically. Knob twiddling throughout an entire show just gets distracting for me. I don't think you can really knock either of these two amps, I'm sure the RH450 is a great amp too, and I think anybody will be extremely happy with either of them.

  • @Ziphoblat I definately agree with you there. It's funny though, I got to play thru a rh450 for the first time today... I liked everything function wise, but man the tone is the furthest from what i want in an amp... It's way too dark of a voicing... I need crispy hifi High frequency stuff. And Genz fucking delivers ;)

  • GB sounds like it has more balls. To me the Promethian sounds cleanest and thinnest, and the TC is in the middle. The most bang for the buck or best value if you get one that works is the Promethian. Then again I spent 4 years in Field Artillery. I can't hear shit no ways, :-) What do I know. I'm not on the GB or TC bandwagon. If a relative sends me the money I'm going to get a Crown XLS1500 ($499) and drive it with the Eden Stom box pre.di ($150). 1000 watts and a pre for $650 or less.

  • I Too have the Genz and it is the Bomb, Best Bass investment bar none!!!!

  • i owned the promethean and send it two times for service, first because of the fan didn't work properly and second because it started to smoke(bad for humans worst for amps)...

  • I own a Genz (with a 12" speaker) and am very satisfied.

  • Genz WIN!

  • are the center freqs messed with at all on the rh450?

  • @Papertiger0724 No - the center frequencies are set "flat" - flat for the RH450 (which has a baked-in tone at "flat".

  • You sed that the RH had the best rock tube tone - the genz benz has a tube and it can overdrive properlay cus its got 12AX7s

  • @spikestripe123 Having 12AX7's doesn't mean it can overdrive properly. It is a fine amp, but I think the videos show that it certainly sounds different than the RH450.

  • That's a nice review. Keep up! Good stuff! I would only suggest that if you are making a review of diferrent amps, you should do it FLAT in all of them. That will spot the main differences of their voicings much easier. All the best

  • @pccapelas Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate it!

As far as amp voicings - I hear where you are coming from. However, most of us don't play the amps flat - so demoing them flat really doesn't give you an idea of what you can do with it... I could have done more, but the video was too long as it was. :D

  • @FretSpot Hi Donovan , I fully understand. And also posted about EQ before watching PT2 :). Your reviews are very helpfull. Thank you once again. Hope to see more stuff from you. ps: going for th GB :).

  • Don't skimp on the preamp tube on that GB amp.. It got the best tube sound out of the three amps.. IMHO

  • Great review, I´m thinking of getting the promethean, as its sounds good and seems good value for money. Do you think its OK for metal?

    (one of few non-hostile comments)

  • @Pollinator95 Sure - but you would likely need a larger cab to go with it - a 1x10 ain't very metal. :D

  • @FretSpot LOL yeah, I was thinking of getting a Barefaced Bass cab, probably the Compact (1x15).

  • IMHO

    Genz-Benz>TC. Electronic.>Promethean

  • @TheMoistdesert I think the Ibanez is a very nice amp - regardless of price. However, to say that the tube features sound digital and fake is an insult to the MANY players (professional and otherwise) who like it. All three amps are great for what they do - and they are different enough where some will like one and not the other. Me - I like them all, and could say a great use for each amp...

  • @FretSpot

Correction. It sounds fake and digital to MY EARS.

In general, I'd recommend the promethean to bass players who want a micro amp that sounds analogue. But hey...whatever rocks your boat. It's all good.

  • @Pinstripedtie

Huh? Don't be fooled by the price tag. The Promethean sounds fuller than the Genz Benz. The TC sounds "fake" to my ears.

Learn to use your ears, instead of looking at the price tag, my friend.

  • @TheMoistdesert Different strokes for different folks, "friend". Each person will find something different they like. Personally, I love the warm, tactile sound of the TC. Also, the three memories settings, and an awesome on-board compressor make for a fantastic value.

  • @TheMoistdesert Dude, I have been playing bass for over 27 years now and have always known Ibanez to be a second rate company. I loo for top end gear and I will say that I ended up purchasing a MarkBass LM Tube 800 and LOVE it!! G'Day!

  • @Pinstripedtie

Ibanez is a second rate company in general?

The Japanese prestige instruments are second rate? The original Tube Screamer design, which can be found on every pro guitarist's pedal board, is second rate?

I could go on. Like Fretspot said. A remark like that is an insult to the thousands of pro musicians who swear by Ibanez products. I guess they don't know better, huh?

  • @Pinstripedtie

Just a funny thing I noticed now. You have the Markbass LM Tube 800. Hmmm...that particular amp has gotten a lot of lukewarm reviews. Even by Markbass enthusiasts. A lot of people that say that the so-called Tube feature is a bit of a joke.

Even the creator of Markbass, Marco Panascia, has admitted that the tube stage doesn't really add anything to the sound. That seems a bit...silly?

  • @TheMoistdesert Dude, there are tons of morons on this planet... look in the mirror and you see what one looks like! Then you will know the answer to WHY some people have no brains in their heads!!

I could care less what kind of reviews the morons give to what ever... This head in combo with the VT Bass pedal is fantastic sounding!

Go wallow in your pool of cheap garbage and let the big boys do their thing!

  • @Pinstripedtie

Let the big boys do their thing? Does that include you?

The Mark Bass isn't even that expensive? I have gear that is way more expensive than that particular micro amp. Why are you so fixated on money? You're overly hostile. I don't get it. We got off to a bad start, but I've tried being cool with you. Still, you keep calling me names. You're not very mature for someone who's been playing 27 years(!?) Gosh, I hope you don't have any kids. Some role model you are. Calm the f.. down

  • @TheMoistdesert Dude, don't you have anything BETTER to do like PRACTICE your bass?? This is getting old and I now refuse to answer your moronic re-fried beans!! Good Day.

  • @TheMoistdesert Oh... and I give NO credit to Genz-Benz. Don't like them and never have. I think they are an over-priced crap sounding amp! If I were to purchase a really clean sounding amp, it would be EA hands down!!! You can hear Barry Lamb playing Euphonic Audio amps on YouTube. He's a great guy and the product is phenomenal!

  • question: did you mic a cab for this or record straight from the DI?

  • @remoman On this video I recorded direct from the DI. I didn't want the cab to influence the sound - as people can use a wide variety of cabs.

  • I think the tc electronic sounds the best (of these 3) for slap and the ibanez for fingerstyle. The Genz Benz is too sterile for my tastes. Just wish the promethean had another 150 watts of power or so

  • This is one the most useful "shoot out" of the TC Electronic RH450 vs. Ibanez Promethean vs. Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 I've yet seen. VERY helpful.

Did you use the 3-band compressor at all on the TC?

I'll tell you, from a practical gigging standpoint, the lit controls of the TC are SO MUCH EASIER to read and work. It's nice to see an amp head that's aware of the real world.

You should tag the Fbass VF5 as well. Through these amps is another look at this great sounding bass.

  • I did use the compressor all the time on the TC. I will be posting a short video soon with the three amps eq'd flat, and all tube tone and compression turned off on the TC...
