lastly, you overestimate your intelligence and shouldn't rely on cheap rhetorical devices to make the point for you in lieu of solid grounding for your arguments.
here's the final nail in your video; constellations don't play into it and they haven't been needed as reference points since Kepler. Clearly you are susceptible to labels. as part of our subjective state we experience phenomena like night and day because of the Sun's apparent motions, the fact that the earth technically revolves around the sun isn't of practical consideration.
omg that's it. darn it, I wish I had been made aware sooner that the final nail had been put in astrology's coffin. Nobody told me. Hey wait a minute...your points are very old ones and rebuttals have been made for them. Surely you have the ability to research the points that you want to make so that you don't seem out of touch with how advanced the arguement really is, right?
..you wish harm upon someone who is more interested in truth than what's most fun to believe? If you're not concerned with believing things that are true, I would highly suggest avoiding videos that aim to debunk ideas that you like. If you care more about truth than what's most fun to beleive, than you shouldn't be offended by the search for truth by others.
deceitfulness? really? i don't think so. is it a local weatherman's job to tell you about the national weather forecast? no. not really. is he any more deceitful when he doesn't? no. he isn't. he's only paid for certain things. it sounds like someone doesn't know what tropical astrology or draconic astrology is. ophiucius belongs to the 3rd zodiac, not the 1st. therefore, i'm sure you can see why i think you suffer from horrible logic. who cares? it's just fun anyways.
I don't even follow Astrology, and it's daily "read your sign" BS. I have a thing towards the four elements, or classical elements which all of these signs fall under. I understand that more.
True, true, all true. Yet, astrology is not concerned about details and facts. Any
astrologer claiming his/her interprentation as fact, is overzealous. It's spiritual in nature, not scientific.
What astrology offers, is a symbolic framework within which you study your psychology. It can teach you, or misguide you.
As science labours on to find the truth, every generation can find new wisdoms in astrology. And if it helps them understand, who are you to critise them?
There is nothing spiritual in nature about the zodiac predictions I find printed in my newspaper. In fact, there is nothing spiritual in nature about any book on astrology I've ever read.. everything is stated in a very matter-of-fact sort of way. The average person who gets into astrology seems to know very little about the scientific irrationalities involved.
Maybe if the whole thing were stated in a less pseudo-scientific way it would bother me less *shrug*
I agree, newpaper astrology is bollocks. It deals only with solar astrology, which symbolises your goals. A more accurate picture comes when the moon and planets are concidered. Then there's house placement, and relations between planets. Your Sun sign can easily be overshadowed.
There has been a tendency lately to justfy spirituality by scientific means, which harms it in two ways. 'Average people' jump to hasty concusions, and serious people look down upon the whole thing.
But see.. when you say that stuff, do you mean that in a symbolic way, or a concrete way? If it's symbolic, fine. Silly, in my opinion, but fine.
But if you (not you personally you, but people who believe in astrology "you") really believe that there is some energy force working between the moon, planets, stars, etc to have an impact on the lives of individuals, and you base it on tropical astrology which isn't even astronomically *accurate*, and you *tell* people this, that is not okay.
And in any case, if you need some sort of way to visualize your personality, your traits, and your goals, why not look at something a little more reliable? Say, Meyers-Briggs tests? I feel like those personality tests that deal much more concretely with the lives of particular individuals are of *far* more use, and even of far more interest, than basing all of your predictions on the date that someone was born.
I'm not sure I understand your reasons to find symbolism silly. Mathematics is all about symbols, defind in a ridgid logical way. Astrology is much more bendable. So are the basic teachings of religions.
Religional symbolism, unfortunately, mostly is bent by religious leaders to control people, and promote intolerance. Astrology does no such thing, and seducted me this way. :D
Inspiration and mystery are basic needs of the human mind. That's why I agree, to tell people what to do, is not okay.
Well, in the meantime, I took the Myers-Briggs test. Appearently, I'm quite introverted and thinking. Sun Gemini, Moon Taurus is all I have to say. Sun in my case is afflicted by other planets, so it doesn't function as well as I'd like, but I'm working on that. :D
Anyway, I support these tests, and hope they will someday be of the depth astrology offers. Did you you know Karl Jung used it frequently in his therapies?
I wonder why you're not mentioning the sidereal zodiac.Perhaps your theory of precession would then hold no water. The true location of the constellations is irrelevant in tropical astrology. You mentioned the failure of astrology to pass tests.Did you see the video of Dr.Michael Shermer(he must be your idol but you aren't even close in comparison)vs.Vedic astrologer Jeffrey Armstrong? The results favored Armstrong and Shermer admitted that astrology works.I don't see this kind of behavior in you.
Real Astronomers don't frown upon Astrology. Go back to the 18th century. You should live among the idiots there, who believe the sun was a ball of burning coal.
This video just goes to show you abyssal ignorance about everything.
Also astrology does not mean "looking to the stars" but "the study of stars" (Greek "astron"-star + "logos"-study) because looking would mean "skopos" or scope! You know I would really be ashamed of posting something I know nothing about because it is against my integrity to make a fool of myself.
Are you referring to the etymological meaning of scope and study? That was not taken from the video but from the user's earlier comment. Regarding to the things I pointed out they are more than just that and it has a big effect on the point of the video because it is exactly that point I am critical of.
By the way, Namari12, it may be true that sun signs are vague but that is because there are many factors in the chart that alter the sign qualities. The moon Mercury and the ascendant alter much of your sun sign. I have Sun conjunct Mars and feel like Aries when I'm Cancer (read the rest in my first comment). If you create INDIVIDUAL CHARTS based on the time and place of birth and read it WITH COMBINED INTERPRETATIONS then out of the 10 only 1 will claim the chart is theirs.
Are you familiar with Vedic astrology? Probably not. For your info which you badly need they use ayanamsha which is the precession of the earth's axis. You use it to disprove astrology when in fact another astrological system is using it. As an astrologer I doubt that I am a retard. I don't want to jump to conclusions but astrologically (perhaps even astronomically) I know more than you. Based on what you're posting in your profile I don't expect you to be smarter than the video you created.
Besides even if in the tropical zodiac precession is not used it IS OUT OF THE QUESTION. The stars and the planets are merely symbols which reflect the human psyche and are not involved directly. Astrology has a close link with psychology. The only difference is a horoscope. Should we therefore also condemn psychologists? (Based on your argument that would be logical) The sun is the identity which is not easy to find because we are stuck with our ascendant which represents early conditioning.
Have you noticed that in your own film your statement that "89% of the people claim that their sun sign fits their character" contradicts your statement that "similarities of people's character and qualities associated with sun signs are pure coincidence"? Coincidence is only up to 50% accurate. How can it be 89%?!
I'm impressed. Astronomically you're very knowledgeable(I love astronomy too). Congratulations.I'm also impressed that you're focusing so narrowly on sun signs which would not happen if you were familiar with astrology. In your "documentary" you have not mentioned even a single word on the other planets houses or a chart in general. I'm Cancer by sun sign but I act as Leo because LEO IS MY RISING SIGN! I also act like Gemini because MERCURY IS ON MY ASCENDANT. Do you know what a rising sign is?
When you look at a large population and how they are affected by the twelve energies of the zodiac, astrology does work...or is believable...or however you want to phrase it. Your video plays like a dull high-school physics lecture...entirely left-brained, closed-minded...when I run across a Leo, they act like a Leo...I don't know why and I don't have to know why to see that those born with the Sun in Leo tend to take on certain characteristics in their personality.
I find this all very laughable. You so obviously know absolutely NOTHING about astrology. Please, first study the subject (so you actually know something about it) before you post sludge like this. Know something about the subject you are condemning.
Ah, yes. Special pleading - often used in an attempt to rescue a proposition in deep rhetorical trouble. Special pleading works like this: Claim the opposition lacks an understanding of the subject, then offer no explanation of what is wrong with the opposition's evaluation.
If you're so knowledgeable, please point out what is wrong with the video and what the correction is.
What??? "Special pleading"? I've never heard this term used before, did you just invent it to make yourself sound intelligent? If you have half a brain, you'll see that in my comment ALL of this person's claims are incorrect. I know, because I actually have studied the subject. Do a little research yourself before making idiotic comments. CIAO...
Actually, that's only one form of special pleading. Look it up on Wikipedia. Look at the fourth bullet. You have to explain what is wrong with an argument before expecting anyone to discredit it. The least you could do is point out one or two things wrong with what the video states.
Personal attacks won't help your case either, you know.
The sun signs makes so much more sense to me than the norm astrology. I always thought I was more like a Gemini and not a Cancer despite my birth date in late June; very close to the borderline of the two signs. I have never been a big believer in astrology, though. I think it's rather silly for people to base their whole lives around constellations in the sky.
This only covers sun signs which even a lot of people who who love astrology will agree are bull shit. Sun sign are very hit or miss. I'll still buy my crappy books but only ones published before '90. metaphysics books suck after that...
astrology is really just a bunch of people trying to master the orginization of human nature and creation. the dudes who made it up had first dibs on the names and gave them to the stars. if you really wanted to put up a real argement, you would actually learn something, and talk about how in a chart, they treat the moon and sun as real planets, but its not really about the stars. thats the funny part, but you're too dumb to catch that.
So it appears that I'm not actually a Capricorn as the tropical zodiac tells me. Im actually a Saggitarius. I read the description of a Saggitarius and it fits me MUCH better than a Capricorn. YYEAH I knew it!!
One question I gotta ask you Namari12. If the tropical zodiacs are inaccurate, and there is an 86% chance people are the sign they believe to be, then why is it that many people believe they fit their sign to a T?
Very simply, because the descriptions they give you could apply to just about anyone. For example, look at newspaper horoscopes-- those things could be interpreted to apply to anyone. Get 10 people of the same 'sign' who follow astrology together in the same room and compare their personalities; I'll wager they'll all be radically different in personality type, and every one will claim that sign fits them "perfectly"
@Namari12 Anyone who takes seriously a newspaper horoscope is a fool yet this does not write off the possibility that people may be influenced subtly by a planetary motion. Consider the influence the Moon has upon not only our oceans, ecology but even reproduction cycles. I tend to consider these horoscope personalities in a psycho-analytical sense, they make up about 10% of a person, the rest being social, natal and natural influences, consider that we are merely a collection of animalinstincts
you're stupid, Its practically laughable how you're coming out with this info. First learn about vedic astrology then speak other wise you look like a fool.
It seems to me you enjoy belittling people not as scientifically minded as you, rather than truly "informing" them. I would rather hang out with a "stupid" believer in astrology than a person who lived their entire life as a cold-hearted skeptic who delighted in calling people "retards". I love science as well, and I like having BS debunked, but give me a break with the cheeky attitude!
Brilliant. Brings to light many points that I doubt many people even bother to think about when they check their daily fortunes of the future. "THERE WILL BE CHANGES IN YOUR FUTURE!" *gasp* NO WAY, THAT JUST HAPPENED! But yes, very nicely done, gave me many laughs. =D
You're a bit misinformed, but it was a pretty thoughtful vid. Western astrology uses the spring equinox to mark the beginning of the sign of Aries. You might want to look into sidereal astrologies like Indian Vedic, which continue to use the constellations.
I did say that this was "tropic astrology not sidereal." Recheck the disclaimer. I find sidereal to be equally ridiculous but at least they aren't flat out lying.
It certainly does represent itself as reading the stars. For example, the one slide that shows the Earth and Sun, and the division of 12 signs and the text "Pisces Energy"? I pulled that directly off of an astrology website. Star charts? Western astrologers draw them.
If you directly confronted someone about this, they would, as I mentioned, admit that it's "tradition" or that they're "following the seasons", but "Astrology" means "Looking at the stars". As in.. the stars interacting with us. They are flat. out. lying.
My bullshit sign is the same in both systems. I was hoping it would be something different so that, whenever somebody asked me about it, I could be a little smart-ass and slyly segue into this information. The only way I can think of doing it now is all lumpy and awkward.
Yeah.. I have the same problem, I'm a Leo both ways. .. that anyone would suggest I have the personality traits of a 'leo' though is pretty hilarious as it is.
Weird Al & a mini lesson - very kewl! Thanks. I wish the campaigns to stop printing the damned things in newspapers had been successful! Ya gonna give it another go?!?!?!?!! all my best, elaina
Damn. It would have been "kewl" to have been able to tell people asking me for my star sign that I'm an Ophiuchus. Feck it. I'll tell them that anyway. It's not like my "original" sign was in sync either.
Wow, excellent video! 5 stars! :) I like how the descriptions of how to read the sun's position makes sense if we are inside a dome. Nail in the coffin of Genesis too! hehe
with Paint! wow. but i think people who would believe all that are basically blatantly and willfully oblivious and are simply immune to rational evidence, they'll look at all this and say "oh, that's interesting", "you're probably right", and then go on to be as they were. perhaps it's different for young children though
Oh yeah.. I figured; I've shared this information before with believers and they just shrugged and said "oh, well, I don't believe *that* and went about their merry way. But at least now they have been informed.
well i'm now quite ambivalent about to what extent can rational discussions change a person's mind. somehow that it seems that it's more of a problem of personality, or some sort of personal weakness, rather than misinformation or simple lack of knowledge. people are prone to manipulation and self-indoctrinated sophistries and it seems they somewhat have the need for it, this is quite baffling and infuriating actually..
People will someday realize our absolute faith in science and Rationalism is just as dogmatic, blind and unwise as the unquestioned faith in the Medieval Church. The universe and human mind are far more vast and undefinable than we even fathom. Our scientific tools and methods have done wonders to advance the human race as well as destroy the Earth. I only say that we have measured our human experience with man-made rulers, artificial analysis.

So it appears that I'm not actually a Capricorn as the tropical zodiac tells me. Im actually a Saggitarius. I read the description of a Saggitarius and it fits me MUCH better than a Capricorn. YYEAH I knew it!!
One question I gotta ask you Namari12. If the tropical zodiacs are inaccurate, and there is an 86% chance people are the sign they believe to be, then why is it that many people believe they fit their sign to a T?
corndogers564 4 years ago

I tend to consider these horoscope personalities in a psycho-analytical sense, they make up about 10% of a person, the rest being social, natal and natural influences, consider that we are merely a collection of animalinstincts

thats all you people nag about is how astrology works, how its possible .... it just is read the correct astrology not phony Sh#t
youngrelleus19 4 years ago
you're stupid, Its practically laughable how you're coming out with this info. First learn about vedic astrology then speak other wise you look like a fool.
adityjohar 4 years ago
.. vedic astrology? Did you miss that the entire video was about conventional tropical astrology? Are you even aware of the difference?
Namari12 4 years ago
you don't know what you are talking about. You don't understand astrology at all.

Your refutation of my arguments is astonishing. I am lost for words.
Namari12 4 years ago

You might want to look into sidereal astrologies like Indian Vedic, which continue to use the constellations.
swingkid 4 years ago
I did say that this was "tropic astrology not sidereal." Recheck the disclaimer. I find sidereal to be equally ridiculous but at least they aren't flat out lying.
Namari12 4 years ago
Western astrology doesn't claim to go by the constellations. It is not lying, when you don't do something you are not claiming to do.
swingkid 4 years ago
It certainly does represent itself as reading the stars. For example, the one slide that shows the Earth and Sun, and the division of 12 signs and the text "Pisces Energy"? I pulled that directly off of an astrology website. Star charts? Western astrologers draw them.
Namari12 4 years ago
If you directly confronted someone about this, they would, as I mentioned, admit that it's "tradition" or that they're "following the seasons", but "Astrology" means "Looking at the stars". As in.. the stars interacting with us. They are flat. out. lying.

You broke my heart, Namari. You broke my heart.

Do you think the weather you are exposed to in the first months of your life may have an effect on your personality?

This video, and the others you've put out, are the reason you are such a TOTAL MEGA-FOX!!!

Weird Al & a mini lesson - very kewl! Thanks. I wish the campaigns to stop printing the damned things in newspapers had been successful! Ya gonna give it another go?!?!?!?!! all my best, elaina
Elaina43 4 years ago

Nail in the coffin of Genesis too! hehe

Yeah, I tried to do one of these a few months ago. But I didn't have all the neat graphics.

Well put together. (I don't believe it, but) My sign has made a day or two a real interesting coincidence. =P

Thank you! Paint is really a more wonderful program than most people give it credit XD
Namari12 4 years ago
with Paint! wow. but i think people who would believe all that are basically blatantly and willfully oblivious and are simply immune to rational evidence, they'll look at all this and say "oh, that's interesting", "you're probably right", and then go on to be as they were. perhaps it's different for young children though
eleytherios 4 years ago
Oh yeah.. I figured; I've shared this information before with believers and they just shrugged and said "oh, well, I don't believe *that* and went about their merry way. But at least now they have been informed.
Namari12 4 years ago
well i'm now quite ambivalent about to what extent can rational discussions change a person's mind. somehow that it seems that it's more of a problem of personality, or some sort of personal weakness, rather than misinformation or simple lack of knowledge. people are prone to manipulation and self-indoctrinated sophistries and it seems they somewhat have the need for it, this is quite baffling and infuriating actually..
