I have a Magnum 350 Airgun that shoots PBA Pellets at around 1,600 fps in the .177 caliber and more than 1,200 fps for the .22 caliber. I tried it on an old pair of safety glasses and it shot right through. It's obvious that you wouldn't expect a bullet to hit the safety glasses directly while you're wearing them for protection, but they sure do protect against flying debris while you're doing yard work.
@TheAllAmerican2012 Any BB gun can go smash your eye. Same for airsoft, paintball, etc. Your eye is very soft, if anything hits it you are in trouble. That's why you need safety glasses to prevent being blinded.

I'm in the occupational safety and health industry and it kills me to see people buy the cheapest safety glasses they can find at the hardware store that couldn't be any thicker than a sheet of saran wrap. My personal favorites are made by Gateway Safety and Jackson Safety (Starlite Squared and Nemesis).
@JoeDurobot Sometimes I see cheap safety glasses at the discount store, they have very thin plastic. I wonder if they are really rated as "safety glasses", or if they are cheap imports that will break easily and have faked markings (e.g. they copied a real set of safety glasses). Be careful when you buy, its worth buying decent stuff if you want good eye protection.

I tried shooting regular 2mm thick polycarbonate sunglasses with a BB carbine at very close range.
The glasses exploded into dozens of pieces.
Im surprised those safety glasses didn't even explode from the .22, sure that made holes but it didnt break the lense into multiple pieces.
