It's a REAL shame there is no recorded version of the final act.... I would KILL to see Callas's jump at the end, she was SOOOO intense!!! Is there a way to go back in time and see this play with Callas / Corelli???
And, after this, who dares to say that can "make" Tosca???
Just HAVE A CAREFUL LOOK to EVERY SINGLE gesture, breath, expression and interpretation of music and movement of Callas and then look at yourself: how many percent of it you are able to do.
That's why Callas was all devoted to Opera, that's why she lived, that's why she died.
@ArchiducDeBelgrade i totally agree! she can sing, act like noone else! and she's so good, that makes everyhting real! I really wanna crey every time I listen to this!
GOOD NEWS dear Callas fans!!!! Striker capitulates! The automated production of feces is over. He's a nervous wreck because the great Filaredo gang has destroyed the white knight on his black donkey. Striker, you are alone in a hopeless plight!Go home and lick your wounds!!! Hoohooohaahaahhhaaa..... what a wonderful world...!!! Striker is only a picture of misery.....LOL
Fijaos bien!!
Yeah, but this was the thing with most of the Cavaradossi(s) in the 1950s-60s. Misciano in the 1960 film with Magda Olivero does practically the same.
I am in awe. Tosca's "shouted" phrases are the most dangerous to the voice, apart from the tremendous and loud orchestration...but she really sacrificed her all to the greatness of the art.
i feel sorry for people like mariaperrucha they really don't get pathos. Something that few artists can transmit.. Callas oozes it! No Voice??? Well if any of the ""BEAUTIES"" and ""DIVAS"" these days had half her ""NO VOICE"" we would be in a golden age! Instead we have to listen to brainless twits with no idea what pain is and no idea how to transmit it into their voices!! Artistry is about using everything! Make the angels cry maria!!!
la tibaldi needs to be menstion in every callas video so people can remember her now thats sad poor tebaldi and of course callas with a voice or not still maria callas the great prima donna thats all oh and viva Gobbi
She was perfect in this production. Her acting is so amazing, esp. when compared to bores like Tebaldi who just stood around and sang and sometimes waved their arms.
No wonder Dame Judi Dench was so mesmerized by her.
Tebaldi boring as Tosca ? Don't tell me ?.I hate to tell this, but Callas filmed 2nd act Tosca is very amusing because she looks like a cartoon character
Tebaldi was a bore as Tosca. Her mannerisms (I.E. the wishwife sobbing in Act I) and her indifferent acting......no thanks. Give me Callas over that any day. Granted, they were both great sopranos (With Callas being great in Bel Canto and Tebaldi being great in Verismo), and Tebaldi has accepted Maria's greatness & vice versa. If only the "fans" were as smart!
Again, my dear mariaperrucha, you have no clue. This production by Zeffirelli has become the golden standard against which any Tosca production is measured. None has equalled it yet. Voiceless? Callas out of her prime had more of a voice and artistry than all the dull, brainless vanilla voices and chirpers put together.

Callas was FULL OF FLAWS, WOBBLY high Cs, ugly SCREAMING voice, HORRENDOUS technique that cracked most of the time, let's not mention her MONOTONOUS high notes, unlike sutherland's ringing ones. hmmm let's see what else?
she LOST her e-flat in 1955, she produced bizarre sounds in many coloratura passages (example: the Ah! si in saprgi d'amaro that became hooo! si) and they call her la ¿divina?, and a ¿¿¿dramatic coloratura???.
but she existed. and she was loved. and she is still loved. and im sure you did not achieve half of the things she achieved. but cwhat can you do about it? just complaining.
From The New York Times, the Washington Post, Opera News, Time The New Yorker and score of other publications, there sounded the same celebatory note about interpretion of Maria Callas in 1965...
*"Miss Callas entered, and all things came to a halt..."
*"Anyone, admirer or not, must admit that she has earned the right to stand at the top of a pyramid, with a total production: scenery, direction, conductor and cast- designed upwards is a consistent structure."
*"If she did not care to sing a note, she would still rank among yhe geuine dramatic interpreters of our time."
Importants critics said about Maria Callas as Tosca in 1965:
*"She was an electrifying figure on the stage, youthful, sensitive, beautiful to contemplate- and she lived the role as no other singer within my memory..."
*"Miss Callas is a unique creature- already, in fact, a legend..."
The importants papers (The New York, The Washington Post, Opera News and outhers) said:
*"Here we have woman who, like her or not, is the most important person singing in opera today. Her greatness is in her fierce and all-pervasive power to realize every dramatic nuance of a character and to recreate that realization through the overwhelming use of her body and voice."

Read this review froma an ancient italian newspaper:
"In the nov 1956 Tosca 2nd act excerpts Telecast Callas is horrible too. Have you ever seen anything as horrible on stage as Maria Callas ? plus she never had voice for Tosca, when she has to do the "parlato" mouri ! she sounds like a 15 years old girl, a soprano leggero singing Tosca, a piece of shit. And how coarse her gestures and movements are ! she seems a butcherwoman.."

This is sooo amazing. She's completely alive and makes you forget that this was 1964 and her voice had been going downhill for nearly a deacde. Next to her, all other Toscas are like sailboats. Look at her face after she tells Scarpia! The way she matches voice to expression! Amazing...
Callas three third act filmed Toscas, 56 Ed Sullian, '58 Paris and '64 London leaves her very very bad stand up.She had no great physical presence for the character and her acting is ridiculuos, her personality is nasty and hysterical,
this is my favorite part of the second act of Tosca the fight with scarpia and tosca just look at callas face she is Tosca its wonderful she still give shrivers after more then 40 years of this video yes even tho her voice was not 100% but them look at her and Tito is wonderful just out of this world

A close friend of old lady Zeffirelli told that in that year, 1964, Maria was offered to play a role in The Addams family, she nearly signed but she finally found her best grand guignol witch role in this production
Even though she is not in the best voice, she still sends shivers down my spine, just like the 1953 studio recording did. Maria is simply just amazing! Tito Gobbi again shows why he is the ultimate Scarpia with his superb acting. Renato Cioni provides a very good Cavaradossi.
