Great scene. Especially because you finally see Marlo get furious over something and now can see why he is the boss. Avon was too impulsive and emotional.
jesus yeah... you see interviews with the guy who plays Marlo, he's a nice guy. But Marlo on screen is one of the most terrifying characters in the wire. More than Chris or Snoop, more than Weebay, hell more than Avon or Omar because they have a code, more than that throat-slitting Vondas because he only does what he needs to for business. As much as we all hate Marlo, he was the most dangerous character in the Wire. Everyone else had a code and he didn't.
@ravenouscolonelhart I personally find Chris the scariest character of the show, which is why I was hoping Omar would get him, but unfortunately, it didn't happen.
@KevinLockard23 Chris's eyes never had the ice in them like Marlo's. I don't know, maybe his good looks make me think better of him than I should, lol. It did upset me what they did to Butchie though.
@elemental12345678900 If you compare either one of them to the Greek's "my name is not my name, and I am not even Greek", you can clearly see the difference between organized criminals and some ghetto ass gangster from the hood.
@holdemehha The Greek was seriously old school, not bothered by petty bullshit like that, so I think you're right. Even Avon was far more reasonable than Marlo. With Marlo we never saw any evidence that he enjoyed the fruits of his labor. At least Avon lived life.
@holdemehha Very silly observation. The " Greeks " were wholesalers and not street level dealers. They didn't have to worry about a street reputation. Nobody on the street corner side of things knew of them.Part of Marlo's power on the corners was intimidation. He did have to be concerned about how others perceived him. The Stanfield crew was very organized btw. Do you think John Gotti or Al Capone didn't give a damn about their names or respect from others. Don't be foolish.
Marlo was a scumbag. Having said that, this is my favorite Marlo scene. After three seasons of complete emotional detachment, an attack on his rep finally gets a rise out of him. As near as I can remember it's the only time in the whole series that Marlo even raises his voice. A fine bit of acting
@bigmarty11288 Marlo is one of a very few Top Boys in the city. you wont find an efficient kingpin who goes around shouting his mouth acting 'the part' as it is. They gotta b intelligent and greet people with a smile. otherwise no importer is going to take you seriously, he acted the part spot on, obviously to get to that level of the game you gotta b able to turn to a rageing deamon at any point your bussines or rep is threatend. its the rules of the game,
@bigmarty11288 goddamn i just came on to this clip to write the exact same comment. That is what made the Wire so special. They build him up for 3 series and he doesn't raise his voice until the 2nd last episode. Now THAT is character development.

I love how the whole cell goes silent as soon as Marlo raises his voice.

Marlo`s "MY NAME IS MY NAME" vs Avon`s "JUST A GANGSTA I`SPOSSE"...pretty much sums the difference between these 2 guys
