  • It sounds like he is saying "hey wait i got a new cobain during the chorus" haha

  • the REAL backup voices are:

    During the verse: Kurt

    During the chorus: Kurt

He went in alone one day to do the dubs.

  • amazing voice!!!!!!

  • Wow. Hearing just the vocals without the music really proves what a strong voice he had, I think. A lot of emotion in there. I love it.. <3

  • >>>>COURTNEY KILLED KURT<<<<

  • @miasophia420HAHAHAHAHA why would she do that silly?

  • @miasophia420 You got that right

  • @miasophia420 Hell no. He made this song dedicated to courtney.

  • @mackiHL2 Cobain said the song was inspired by documentaries about children with cancer. He told biographer Michael Azerrad, "Anytime I think about it, it makes me sadder than anything I can think of." -HEART SHAPED BOX WIKI, YOU IDIOT.

  • @miasophia420 It was the wrong video.

  • @miasophia420 What evidence do you have?

  • @heartshapedlife1 All the evidence is at cobaincase . com...taped convos of courtney and everything.

  • @miasophia420 It's true she was a psycho, but I don't think she would've killed him. What purpose would she have to kill him?

  • @heartshapedlife1- She gets all his money and is in charge of all Nirvana related material which is worth millions.

  • @heartshapedlife1 well,my take on it is that a woman who tried to kill her father, twice,i might add, would not go too far to kill her husband.i'm not saying she did it,but wouldn't be surprised if she did.

  • Butch Vig said Kurt was the best at laying down a double track like it was nothing. I couldn't do that straight and he was doing it between drug trips and a junkie lifestyle. Crazy.

  • I'm pretty sure it's Kurt double tracked through the whole thing. The Nirvana book said he went back alone to add vocal and guitar dubs.

  • Kurt was double tracked a lot, Butch Vig even said so.

  • the backup voices are:

during the verse - Dave -

during the chorus - Kurt (double tracked) -

  • @alv4rofb Well At 3:43, On The Verse, It Sounds Like Kurt Double Tracked Along With Dave.

  • @alv4rofb No, it's not. It's all Kurt. Dave only did the harmonies for the higher notes that Kurt couldn't hit.

  • @UnderASkyOfGrey yeh, i was gonna say it sounds a lot like kurt lol

  • @alv4rofb no its just kurt

  • @alv4rofb Sure sounds like Kurt to me at the end of the final verse "...you turn blaaaaaaackkkkk" The "you turn" is enunciated in his typical way, and "black" has his trademark gravel.

  • @AnxietyDilemma well, you're right

Studio: Kurt, the whole song (double tracked)

Live: Dave (during the verse) Pat Smear (during the chorus)

  • @alv4rofb- Pat Smear never recorded a song with Nirvana, he hadn't joined the band at this point and he was only ever a touring guitarist,

  • @piemakesmelol and who said that he recorded a song with Nirvana?

i said that in live performances, Pat Smear do the backing vocals in the chorus

    (sorry my english)

  • @alv4rofb it acc all kurt.

  • @ToaJoe Not true, it was Kurt Double tracked.

  • @ToaJoe Dave For In Bloom, It was mainly Cobain doing back ups (guitar, vocals, sound effects)... Grohl did do backup as well during the later choruses (it sounds pretty awkward compared to Cobain). Grohl definitely did his fair share of backups on several tracks on Nevermind.

Regarding In Utero, Grohl did some backup (as did Krist), but it was (as usual) Cobain taking the lead and predominant backups.

  • @ToaJoe I'm sure as hell that both the voices are Kurt's. I record/mix/produce in my homerecording studio myself and I assure you it can't be "recorded like this"... Even if they recorded the main vocals and the backing vocals at the same time (which can't cause it's Kurt two times) that wouldn't matter at all because it still comes to two different tracks, doesn't matter how they recorded it, they are seperate tracks.

  • @ToaJoe You might be wrong, you know.

  • at 2:11 I hear some guy talking???

  • @xmfdibujito i think it's kurt.we will never know

  • @ToaJoe where do you guys get these things? curious about that, thanks! (:

  • I love how at some points you can hear what I assume is the instrumental track playing in Kurt's headphones as he records =P

  • @ToaJoe Yes, Dave did do back up vocals, but Kurt also multitracked his vocals as well, this is obvious in many songs if you listen close. On a the Classic Albums Nevermind Butch Vig explains specifically multitracking Kurt's Vocals on Nevermind, and i'm pretty sure they do that alot on In Utero as well.

  • @ToaJoe dave only did SOME of the backings in studio (in bloom chorus, on a plain) and kurt always did at least double vocals since nevermind. i doubt there's any grohl on this one, love the hamonies in the verses though. so kurt did most of the overdubs in studio, dave did them live, and so did pat on a few songs

  • @ToaJoe They Doubled Kurts vocals in almost all of the nevermind tracks, because i watched a documentary on it and the producer sadi he remembered Kurt getting annoyed and bored singing each track over and over.

  • @ToaJoe They actually doubled both their vocals on some tracks. In bloom has two kurt cobains with 2 dave grohls doing harmonies. This track had 2 kurts doing the same thing with grohl doing harmonies on the chorus and the verse was just cobain and later with scott litt kurt added harmonies for the verses.

  • @ToaJoe no Dave did not due all the Nevermind back ups on drain you the verse harmonies are done by Dave and on the chorus harmonies they're done by Kurt that's just one of the songs there are more like that and on In Utero Kurt did almost all of the harmonies I'm sorry but you need to get your facts strait this song Heart Shaped Box had no Dave vocals it wasn't recorded like this the reason the multitracks for this aren't out there is because they were never released you're wrong trust me

  • oh fuck yea I needed this for a project and was starting to think I would have to use one of those vocal extractors myself. nice work.

  • @ToaJoe kurt did his own backups on the songs polly, come as you are, and i believe that's him doing the high harmony on something in the way.

  • @roejogan8 no, dave did backin vocals on something in the way with the high vocal harmony

  • not true its both kurts voice

  • 2:11 sounds someone talk he said `good==

  • @ToaJoe lol not smells like teen spirit. that was kurt all the way. almost like this song. most (if not all) of the double tracking was kurt. (and if you cant tell the difference between kurt and dave's voice, thats a fail.... you have the vocal tracks for in bloom right? if not listen to them. the difference is crystal clear. ;)

  • @ToaJoe

Sorry but on Heart-Shaped Box, Cobain did ALL vocals.

That much is a well established fact.

Grohl did ZERO backing vocals on HSB, however he always did the LIVE backing for the verses and Pat Smear did the backing for the chorus.

In this recording, it is 2 Kurt's for the entirety of the song.

Originally, Cobain recorded just one vocal with Steve Albini. However, the band were not happy with the mixes for HSB or All Apologies, so Kurt recorded an extra vocal track for both songs.

  • @iTubeYourDadsMinge this is correct.

  • Video description: "Also credit to Kurt Cobain".

-I think that you mean "ALL credit to Kurt Cobain". ;)

  • This is definitely Kurt double tracked. You can plainly hear him harmonize himself in the chorus and again when he says "your advice". I'm fairly sure that Dave only did backing vocals in live performances.

  • With regards to the background vocals debate, I would like to add that Dave only *sometimes* contributed backing vocals to their tracks. More often than not, Kurt was double tracked. This, to me, sounds like Kurt singing in 2 different registers. You can clearly hear 2 Kurts on the "your advice..." refrain. Same thing for the Sliver vocals, You Know You're Right, Teen Spirit, etc. Kurt was often double tracked without Dave's involvement. Just sayin'.

  • This creeps me out a little bit... Kurt was amazing though.

  • That he programmes do you use to separate the tracks?

  • an angel swallowed up by the evil

  • can someone explain what voice was that between 02:09 and 02:12 ? Listen closely, it's like someone was gonna talk then it was muted. (bla bla bla right back... ta ta ta ta.... (sound) ...... HEY! ...:!!)

  • hey gus look at our chanel we have few Nirvana covers!

  • Wtf is that at 2:10 ??? And that's definitely Kurt doing the backing vocals. I always thought it was Dave until just now.

  • I dont know about in utero but i know for a fact that Kurt dubbed his voice on nevermind because butch vig(the producer of nevermind) convinced him to by telling him John Lennon dubbed his own voice(he hated his voice and dubbing made him feel better about it). I dont think in utero changed much in the way they recorded it, because it sounds like 2 Kurts harmonizing on this track rather than dave doing so

  • @Gargghh right and wrong dave did backing vocals on a couple of tracks in bloom especially look it up on youtube butch vig said it in an interview

  • Listen to 1:02 closely. You can hear the Voice that only Kurt had, it wasnt dave backing.

  • anyone know how many tracks for vocals he did on this song?

  • that is clearly kurt doing the backing vocals

  • gracias!!!!!!!!!!!! al fin lo subieron!!!!!!

hace tiempoe esperaba a que suban esta cancion por partes!!!

    THANKS!!!!!!!!

  • does anyone have the notes for the backing melody in the verses... i find that really interesting and i cant find the notes for it and it is to hard for me to find them out myself....

  • @gar992000 A-flat, G-flat, F, E-flat, D-flat, D-flat, E-flat, D-flat, B, D-flat...however, I'm too lazy to write out note values for it, so you're on your own for that part.

  • @AgentBlackNapkin thanks alot! i think i figured it out though ill compare the notes and see if im right... thanks again!

  • @ToaJoe I know for a fact that Dave didn't do ALL of the backups

  • a voice at 2:11 seconds, sounds like dave..

  • Wow i havent heard this multitrack before, thanks for uploading this.

  • kurt mainly did all backing vocals on albums, dave just did them live, god i love kurt so much its such a waste that amazing voice and talent was ended at such a young age..

  • Kurt <3

  • Beautiful!!! I love you Kurt! :)

  • the pic is my channel icon

  • Give me one good reason why I shouldn't just block you and remove your comments.

I saw AIC a few months ago. I am a big fan of soundgarden and pearl jam. My favourite grunge band is AIC, personally. But does that mean I have to stop liking Nirvana?

People like you are retards. Music doesn't have to be complex to be good... I have played guitar for over 15 years now, but I still appreciate Kurt Cobain's talents.

  • YES! someone other then me and my sister appreciates Kurts talent! lol It's so simple, it's clever. Go GRUNGE! yeah Pearl Jam and AIC kicks ass! thanks for posting!

  • @thebeatles8267 man,you are still lucky you have your sister appreciated him,my sister doesnt even know nirvana,im the only one that like rock songs T.T

  • @ToaJoe well fucking said mate. amen.

  • @ToaJoe dude,he said that you think kurt suck or somethng ? i dont understand because you just said you like nirvana :p,im not insulting you man, just asking

  • @ToaJoe amen

  • @ToaJoe

Very true. Personally I rather listen to a band that writes good songs that are simple rather than a band that tries to make things overcomplicated.

  • how the fuck can you get this tracks? from guitar hero games?

  • my favourite vocalist of all time

  • I'd have to agree with westpsmity, maybe Dave did some of the backing singing, but in some parts you can definatly hear Kurt Cobain singing both parts... Dave doesn't sound anything like Kurt, so there's no confusion, especially in the chorus...

  • That's not true at all, if you watch some of the videos with Butch Vig talking about recording Nevermind, he specifically talks about Kurt being very good at nailing the second vocal with in one try.

Again, listen to the vocals between 1:25 and 1:30, that's defiantly Kurt twice.

  • thats for double tracking not back up vocals and i agree with you 1:25 AND 1:30 are kurt. but dave does do the verses.

  • That's making more sense now, so Dave is doing back up vocals, and Kurt is double tracking over the chorus. Sound right?

  • yeah

  • well you can kinda here what sounds like dave doing back up during the chorus but it might just be kurts voice double tracked with a higher pitch to create a nice harmony

  • Any chance you have the vocal track for this song with just ONE vocal? I'd like to hear this without the backing vocal

  • Nah they recorded it like this

  • Aren't both tracks Kurt's vocal? I honestly don't know the recording tech of the day, so did they record the second vocal directly over the first or something?

  • No Dave recorded back up vocals, he does it all the time

  • In the chorus you can pretty clearly hear two Kurts, listen to like 1:25 to 1:30, that's not Dave Grohl. I know on Nevermind they for sure had Kurt do back ups as well, I don't know for sure about In Utero, but I don't any reason they would change that (different producer aside)

  • @westpsmity I actually think its Pat, the Rhytm guitarist, He does sound alot like Kurt in the recording of Unplugged in New York.

  • Oh shit man, Pat was no where near Pachyderm Studios when In Utero was recorded. He was a touring guitarist and that's it.

  • @askdslhsda correct. cobain does all vocals on this recording of HSB

  • @westpsmity cuz butch vig had to force kurt into it basically all the backin is grohl

  • @OnlytheGrunge No way dude, listen to the times I cited, or basically anywhere in the chorus, and it's EASY to tell that there are two Kurt Cobain vocal tracks. Listen to the final "your adviceee" in any of the choruses man, there's no way in hell that's Dave Grohl. If it's not Kurt Cobain twice, then it's certainly not Dave, Krist or Pat, none of them have a voice that could be at all mistaken in the very clear instances I pointed out.

  • @westpsmity What your thinking of is when Kurt would double track his voice to make it sound more powerful. I saw it on Classic Albums.

  • @robpm9996 Right exactly, this whole thing spawned by me asking if he had the recordings of just one vocal track, and he was trying to tell me that there was no double track, and that it was just Dave Grohl's voice. Clearly wrong, I was just trying to explain that. Cheers

  • @westpsmity Dave did all backing vocals when he was in the band. At least thats what I've read everywhere.

  • @FighterOfFoo284 Live he did a lot, but even then, Pat Smear did more when he was on board live. In the studio, Dave did On a Plain, but most of the songs on Nevermind were Kurt's vocal double tracked and harmonys, and on In Utero, there isnt ton of backing stuff, but again, mostly Kurt. I don't know where you read that, but it's false, especially with Nevermind. There's a series of videos where Butch Vig talks about recording that album, and he goes into all of that. Dave didn't sing a ton.

  • @westpsmity It says that in Come As You Are: The Story Of Nirvana by Michael Azerrad. He definitely did backing for Pennyroyal Tea though.

  • @westpsmity All the backups are Dave. Steve Albini, the producer of In Utero, didn't double track Kurt's vocals on the album. That's a Butch Vig thing.

  • @westpsmity

It's very hard to tell, but if you pay really close attention to it WHILE Kurt is also singing,

It sounds very close to Dave's backup on stuff like In Bloom.

  • Kurt did all the backing vocals on In Utero

  • @violentaddiction123 don't forget Dave Grohl man!

  • @ToaJoe It's kurt Cobain all the time on this one.

  • @ToaJoe dave is not singing harmony on this. kurt overdubbed his own harmony on this one.

  • @ToaJoe lol thats not true! kurt did all backups on recordings.. live dave did backups! look it up!! trust me.

  • @westpsmity Yes, Kurt did backup vocals on this song just look up Heart-Shaped box on Wikipedia and it well tell you that when he remixed it with Scott Litt, Kurt sang the backup vocals

  • @westpsmity it is simple multi track record nothing else .. people have been doing it since multi track came around to thicken up vocal tracks without loading them up with effects .. dave only did backups live its all kurt on the albums

  • @OfficialCyaneX I'm well aware of what multi track recording is... the whole argument/discussion we were having here (1 year ago) was whether or not double tracking was done on In Utero, like it had been done on Nevermind. What you said is not entirly true though, for instance, Dave Grohl can very distinctly be heard on Nevermind's "On a Plain", possibly others.

  • can u please tell me what program did you use to make this song voice only?

  • it's from a multi-track recording. it's impossible to remove vocals from a song, can't be done

  • is the lyrics " hey, wait I got a new complain" or "hey, wait I got a real complain".?

  • its new

  • hey, wait, i got a new complaint!! forever in debt to your priceless advice.

  • a new complain..

  • They are "Hey! Wait! I've got a new complaint! Forever in debt to your priceless advice."

  • New.

  • omg his voice is so fucking amazing......i love it!!! and its not computered or anything.....which is even better!!!

  • i no the main vocals but what is the second one doing cause it starts nomally but goes down deep slowly i really wanna know how to do it and what he's doin cuase it sounds well good

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for uploading something like this.

    It's really neat.

  • No problem

  • no kurt did all back up vocals on this song

  • In the recordings, yes, live, no.

  • please! :)

  • can you get the back up vocals and double tracked

  • Unfortunately they recorded the vocals with Dave singing back up at the same time. They didn't do a seperate recording for it, sorry.

  • thanks any way . this video is great can you do this with any band ?

  • No, only those that are released

  • what do you mean release ?

  • Whenever a Rock Band game or Guitar Hero games comes out, a few multitracks are leaked onto file sharing websites. I just fish them out and post them on Youtube.

  • oh thats sweet thanks man im geussing that you download songs on guitar hero so doesnt that mean that you can infact do it with every band say puddle of mudd

  • I can't download them FROM Guitar Hero... but they are leaked onto the web whenever a new game comes out. I don't play Guitar Hero, I play real guitar which is why I value these- they are great to jam along to

  • i tottaly agree i play guiar drums and sing so all the tracks are important for almost a click track timer but instead i just record bby playing the exact same thing at the exact same time.

  • Yeah, and bass too. For polly, they recorded backup vocals seperate, so that's good to sing to

  • do you have that! and like dumb is realy good to cause some time you never know what dave is singing like higher or just normal

  • Yeah I'll post Polly if you're interested.

  • sweet

  • Yes or no?

  • yes

  • you get polly yet? :D

  • is kurts voiced double tracked during the slow parts at all and is daves and during the hey! wait ! is it doubled and is dave sinnging there aswell ?

  • thanks for puting this up,kurt's voice is really brilliant

  • No problem

  • Beautiful Voice

  • Too right

  • how did you get this?

  • Multitracks. Too tired to explain right now

  • this is osm I love multi tracks
