The music is not samba. The dance is not samba. They are very good dancers but unfortunately American culture ignores the culture of other countries. Want to know what is samba? search on youtube for "Samba de Gafieira" and will see several examples.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I am Brazilian and professor of dance. Education samba and personally know people who developed the samba as Dance Hall you do not know what they are doing. The samba of you ignore what it really is samba. Samba is a Brazilian rhythm, and you simply search for "Samba de Gafieira" on youtube to see what you dance is not like samba. Sorry!

@gustavoleitaolite no sorry to you!...watch any international ballroom competition and they will be dancing this kind of samba...i understand that this isn't samba according to Brazilian samba (i know what traditional samba is) but when you compete at a ballroom competition this is the kind of samba you do...i know there's a difference but this is what the international ballroom community has decided would be samba to compete in comps in...there has to be some kind of syllabus after all

For God's sake! It's hard to believe that even today people are ignorant enough to confuse samba with other Latin rhythms. Samba is a Brazilian beat! And it's not even remotely like rumba and chachacha or any other rhythm coming from countries of Hispanic origin. It is sad to see this confusion of styles in a specialized program in dance. 5 minutes of research is enough to conclude that samba is not even a little like that.

So it is unfortunate to see a very worthy program, with dancer professional templates and excellent, that present dance saying that this is Samba.
