  • Great information, and very clearly presented!

I clicked just wanting to learn the correct way to use connectors but then got exactly the info I need- how to connect wires that will be in a hot and moist environment. I'm rewiring the inside of a steam dewaxer for small-scale investment casting... these connectors seem more than up to the task. And they are made in the US- I couldn't ask for more!

  • nice maybe a quiter heatgun lol

  • Awesome. Very good information. Thank you very much!

  • Thank you Joe. Sorry for taking so long to thank you. I agree with you w/ regard to soldering. I have read and heard that boaters in saltwater prefer crimping do to concerns of brittleness of solder points in an environment where there are a lot of harmonics (vibrations), bumps and jolts as a boat goes through the water.

    Kind regards, Mike

  • Joe,

You should ad a link to your web site in the description section of the video. What would your thoughts be w/ regard to the splicing wires via heat shrink butt connectors without solder vs with solder in a saltwater marine environment? Any advantages? Wiring that is in a bilge area. I have read that in a saltwater environment dressing the wires with a corrosion inhibitor like vaseline prior to crimping is beneficial. Could vaseline add resistence. Your thoughts?

    Kind regards, Capt. Mike

  • @MyPanamaCityProperty Applying vaseline works great to prevent corrosion, it's often used on a car battery's terminals as well. If you are worried about vaseline adding resistance, just make the connection first, then apply the vaseline afterwards so it will be sealed on the outside with no vaseline on the contact surfaces.

I prefer soldering a connector instead of crimping it, because it's generally more reliable. I must admit though I've only ever tried the really cheap crimping connectors :)
