@ebin50 If I were to buy today I may get a 5D. The 7D has better focus, speed, the insides are just better. The sensor in the 5D is what is better than the 7D.....but not by much. You would never notice......that's why I got a 7D. The feel, speed, AF, etc. is wonderful. I would get a 7D today if given the same choice. If all you shoot are landscapes and portraits and you are not concerned speed and performance with then you might look at the 5D for the sensor.
Last week was looking for reviews for 496rc2 head for my monopod. Bumped into yours for the head and 55xprob. Ended up buying both after seeing your review. Delivered yesterday and am thrilled with them.
Just caught your reviews for the 7D. Talked to my wife and now I'm receiving one for Christmas to replace my 20D bought in '05. Please don't do a review for a Ferrari! LOL. Seriously, great vids from someone who use the gear on a daily basis.
Forgot to mention that the 7d is a little on the heavy side but that's ok cuz it feels great in my hand and seems more stable when pressing the shutter button.
I got a new 7d kit with 15-85 lens a little over a week ago and love it. Awesome! Camera. Would like to get a better lens with better range of aperture, so was thinking of a 50mm . Would that be a good all around lens for still pics. I'm a beginner in photography and had the money, so I figured " why! not! " get a good camera that I'll enjoy taking pics of animals, macro, portraits, landscapes and sports.
I upgraded to 7D from 50D and yes it is a nice step i use 17-55 2.8 is usm , 70-200 2.8 is usm mak ll and 100 L macro 2.8 and those lenses on 7D produce better and even sharper images on same settings than 50D So im really happy with the upgrade to 7D aw yeee and AF is better
@jwheeler91 I think either one would be a great way to get started. The 50mm is STILL a great idea at 100 dollars and a 1.8 aperture. I would think hard about the 50. If I was doing it right now I would get the 50mm.
@jwheeler91 Iv'e decided to get the 18-55mm kit lens (£60 more). I've read it can be used "reasonably" as a "variable prime lens". I'm not expecting fantastic results from it. But good for starters. I'll also get the 50 f/1.8. Thanks for your help.
@jwheeler91 All the best to you. You have to decide on something in the end. I hope you get the most out of whatever gear you get. The gear is after all only a percentage of the final image. Most is going to be up to you.
@nate4nd ok thanks for the advise. Two more questions, would I be being stupid buying the 50mm 1.8 for this 1.6 crop camera? Or should I be looking at, say, the 28mm? And, would you say getting the body and nifty fifty first while saving up for the 17-55mm is a good or bad plan?
@jwheeler91 The 50mm is a good lens because it's cheap. If you can afford the 35mm F/2 it might be better to start on the crop body. I would say getting the 50mm (or 35mm or 28mm) while saving for the 17-55 is a great plan. A little limiting with no zoom but in the end when you save enough for the 17-55 (or similar) you will have learned SO much about how to get good images. I think it's worth it if your budget is set. You have to decide for yourself. I vote body only and 35mm or 50mm.
@jwheeler91 Also, if you have the money to get a 35mm or 28mm you might look at the used market. See if you can find a used 2.8 zoom OR see what Sigma or Tamron have in a 2.8 small zoom. Even a low quality F/2.8 to get you by until a 17-55 or 24-105 would be an idea. All the best.
@jwheeler91 It's okay.....to be honest I am very disappointed with it, It's not a step up. Except for the LCD being able to move and the sound input controls it is actually WORSE than the 50D IMO. I would get a 550D (T2i) or 7D. The 60D also has the WORST buttons on any modern digital camera I have ever used. They are bad. I would not buy one unless you used it for a while first to see if you couljd take the controls being so bad.
@nate42nd I understand that it's not a true "upgrade" from the 50D. But as a first time buyer, it seems to be exactly what i'm looking for. Videography is a massive hobby that i've always been intersted in. And photography is a hobby i've always wanted to do. I only have an iPhone 4 atm for photos. I think I will definitely go into a shop to try out these buttons.
@jwheeler91 It will be a fine camera. It's sensor is good, it has a lot of features. If you are into video, it's worth looking into. Get one in your hands. You will probably get used to the bad buttons. I am just disappointed with it. No joystick is another bad thing. The 8 way joystick is the best control I have EVER had on a camera. The "thumb pad" on the 60D is worse than the t1I/t2I. I assume it would be a fine camera all around....it has some ergonomic problems. All the best.
yes, image quality is the most important factor, but shouldn't be an argument to buy the 7D over other cameras. You can argue that all DLRS in the market are good enough in terms of image quality. The other features you mentioned though are totally spot on! it is the best APS-C camera, in the canon side at least (nikon is a whole different story) great vid!
@dipmvideos So true. It competes with Nikon's crop camera bodies. Full frame is another story. It does depend on what you are doing. I do a lot of portrait, still life, abstract, and sports/action I find that the 7D is really a better camera with more features for me. If you did mostly landscapes or buildings.....the 5D would be a better choice. I have been impressed with it. Thanks dip.
You mentioned a lot of great features of the 7d, a couple of which I haven't really used much. As soon as my 7d finishes the dishes I'll defiantly check them out.
@nate42nd Only got the 500d tho thinking about 7d as soon as i get payed enough or the 60d. But should should be fine. I didnt like italy only reason im going is to get expert advice from two pro photographers who go on this college trip every year.
@WestCoastMods The 7D is WAY higher performance, newer technology, more features.....and the 5DMkii is "full frame" which means it has the same size sensor as 35mm film and has slightly less noise at high ISO. It's very good for some types of work, but the 7D is more camera for less money. If all you do is landscapes then the 5DMkii would "maybe" be worth it......both are great cameras. The 7D has more features. I could go on and on about this. lol
great video. the 7d is out of my budget so i got a t2i. very pleased with it and now im saving for some new lenses. top of my list is that 17-55 2.8 u have.
@LaczupakabraPL Yea, I just got a Samsung 24" P2450H about 5 days ago. 1080P man! Nice LCD monitor. Not the best. I didn't even do a review on it because I know people and their monitors. I like it a lot though. I got it at Newegg for $196 on sale. It's back up to $229 now.
@LaczupakabraPL With all due respect you should have looked for a monitor that represented colors better than a TN panel...something with a IPS panel...sure you pay more, but IMO it is worth it. I have a vid comparing TN vs IPS panels, if you want to see it. Matter of fact one of the monitors I used in the test was the Samsung P2494 which is very similar to the one you bought. Check it out if you have time. But don't get angry as I was just showing real world scenarios
@WestCoastMods I know. This is why I didn't show anyone. I got this for cheap and next time I get one I will do some research. I got this one on a "spur of the moment" buy for a good price. I should have asked you about it. I remember your video. Especially with all the photo editing I do now....I really should have am IPS panel.
@nate42nd Oh shit, I sent that to LaczupakabraPL....my bad...for some reason I thought he had bought a new monitor.
Anyway, yeah for the price you couldn't go wrong...maybe next time you're looking at monitors, especially that you're into photography look at a higher end IPS....there like anything else, they go from good, great, greatest. Some of the best 24" IPS monitors sell for over $2000...so when you compare that to the Dell's I bought..I really have the basic consumer level IPS.
@LaczupakabraPL My bad bro, I for some reason thought you had bought a new monitor...not paying attention this morning. Please ignore my last comment as it was for Nate.
Another great vid Nate. I also have the T1i and will upgrade to the either 7D or the replacement for the 5D Mark II.
I recently bought the 50mm 1.4 and the 24-105mm and love the performance on both. Next up is the 24-70 mm f/2.8.
