Uhm, Apple doesn't make their own Hard Drives as the person in the video thinks. It's not Apple's fault the WD / Toshiba / Fujitsu / Seagate or whatever in this thing failed. It's the fault of the HD that was in it, Mac doesn't make it any more or less better, a Hard Drive can fail in 2 days if it's defective, Mac or PC.
@KingMacintosh Uhm, actually it is apple's fault because the majority of hard drives in this particular model, manufactured at the same time, were defective. That laptop was nothing but a problem from the day I bought it. It was nothing but an overpriced POS and the service I recieved from Apple was beyond appalling. I now simply use it for recording music, when it works that is. Never...ever....buying another an Apple computer again!!!
such bullshit. mine is 13 months old and i thought my harddrve was failing. luckily its just the lcd thats wacked out. 280 bucks to spend on a computer that supposedly lasts 3 to 4 years...
Did Apple accept this as part of their warranty policy? I mean actually giving and replacing the Hard Drive under the warranty with no extra cost at all?
My harddrive failed, so i took it apart and cleaned all metal connection tabs (both inside the harddrive and outside) with nail polish remover and now it works!
This happen to my 3 years old MacBook today :I I left it at the apple store and for they to just take it in was 100 dollars and the girl said the MacBook may or may not be covered by a garantee so if it's not it will cost me 300 dollars. Feels bad man
is that a intel mac or a g series ibook? the ibooks used toshibas and they had problems with bad bearings.... also with click of death. make sure u back up your data reguarly. replace that drive with a WDC you'll be glad u did
@bowlestrek I have no idea...But from the beginning of the video it sure sounds like electronics hate you lol. I would tell you to build a computer yourself....but this is a laptop. uh...Unless you bought this from Apple new I could find you a windows based computer at the same price with MUCH better specs than this...What does this have a crappy core 2 duo? I can get you a fucking i7 for the same fucking price.
@bowlestrek Read my other comment...Sometimes it doesn't show up in your inbox but I know it is in the comments section here. I know because I have had that happen to me. Youtube sucks
The Hitachi drives these things come with are known for being unreliable. First thing I did when I got my MacBook was to replace the thing with a much better Samsung.
I'm currently running a 2 year old 250gb Hitachi drive in my PC which is running fine, plus a 12 year old 10gb Hitachi drive which is still going strong aswell.. Normally a hard drive as old as this that has had excessive use for all its life would have failed by now, but not this one..
the same here buddy, its very sad, couldnt quite believe what happened,my macbook is only 6 months old :'( ..,and the worse part is, i lost all my data :((( arrrhhgg....
explains my HD.....(im using an ibm and it's HD has about a 38GB capacity...and they have larger capacity external drives at my local walmart...........(my local walmart doesnt have much.)
arghhh that happened to me yesterday... i have a HUGE question, where u able to save ur files? coz ive heard that they can be saved in the next new hard drive... hope u can answer soon, im getting crazy here..
Hi sorry to hear about your hard drive :( Everyone I know who has a macbook around the same age as mine has had the hard drive fail. I was using time-machine with a separate drive at the time so I didn't have to worry about that. I would suggest bringing your macbook into a mac dealer, there is a good chance they might be able to get the files off your hard-drive and transfer them to the replacement drive. I now have a Seagate 320gb in mine, I kept the replacement 120gb drive as a spare.
That's not a hard drive light... That is the power on/ sleep indicator. And i would recommend you buy an APPLECARE PROTECTION PLAN not some third party crap warranty. Hard drives do fail and there are only five or sic companies that make em. The latest on my shit list that have Failed in MacBook and MacBook Pro are Hitachi 0A53319 and 0A53320. Previously in 2006 was any Seagate with Firmware 7.01
You're right about the light, didn't feel like re-editing the video so I left that part in. Got it repaired under Apple's one-year warranty and the service was terrible, I would have preferred it be fixed at the place where I bought it from. Starting to realize that Apple hardware is crap, now the bluetooth module needs to be replaced. If only OSX wasn't so much better than Windows I could save myself a ton of money with less headaches, $1500 is a lot to pay for an OS if the hardwre is shit.
mine just did this today, although i've had it for over three years i am pretty pissed. right before payday too, perfect timing mac.
