  • This is like a sequel to Minnie the Moocher...weird.

  • 2:00 ...that's how i feel after doing coke too.

  • HES SO FUCKING AWESOME, IT HAS TO BE SAID. Who cares about the fucking moonwalk, or mj for that matter, this is Cab Calloway. He's a bad ass, enough said. Also I've listed to this six times a day for the last three weeks at least

  • Cab Calloway is probably better than MJ, because he invented it, so of course after 77 years people are going to get better at it

  • China

  • There aint no school like the old school.

  • idc what u think mj recreated the moonwalk u should be thankful

  • @83bubble mj copied calloway. so did elvis and james brown. just like ObiJoe808 said 1 year ago.. everything is happening to tie up just right, right about now... Past musical icons new the time when it came to being a trully talented and gifted artist.. elvis, brown and jackson must have seen this video or was somehow in the audience. theres just no damn way that ElvisBrown&MJ made those famous dance moves.. they obviously didnt originate themselves.? those bastards! but where did cab get em???

  • @JazzyBlues420 , Cab got it from the thousands of talented Black people who entertained all of America in the 1870's to early 1900's. who were forced to perform in black face. it was called the minstrel.most popular form of entertainment in this country from the 1840's. thank God for Mary Pleasants, Rosa Parks, Malcom & all those who struggled for human rights which were denied most black people until 1960's.

  • There are no word for the the phantasmagoricalifragilicidocious talent of this musical god.

    Thanks for posting.

  • cab calloway was the person how invented the moonwalk, the other copie him.

  • He was so great!

  • love watchin his movements ... he sure is 1 of a kind (and somethin u dont c 2day)

  • Haha music about cocaine! That's why I love the 30's, this would never be accepted today!

  • 2:00-2:13.....WHAT THE FUCK

  • @SmoothMoonWalker thats what they call scatting lol lol

  • @SmoothMoonWalker ...i was going to explain what that was about...but lemme just say its a drug induced jazz thing. you wouldnt know anything about it.

  • looks like they put black paint on his face, uknow to darken him up, back then we wasnt as free to express ourselves if we where light skinned, thank god for malcolm x & martin luther king, we all be wearing black faces....

  • if you look close mj is hangin from cabs zipper

  • I didn't see him moonwalk. Am I missing something?

  • This was in the Big Broadcast of 1932.

They should put this on DVD.

  • Cab Calloway and Jackie Wilson were Michael Jackson's main dance influences.

  • @lamontlewis it was more to do with Bob Fosse and Jeffery Daniels

  • Dancing similar to Michael Jackson's has its roots from way back then as proof shown here by Cab Calloway.

  • all i'm going to say is some people talk utter rubbish on this page lol

  • He was sick

  • He's still cool 80 years later.

  • He was so handsome and classy even up to the day he died.

  • without him and so many others there would not be james brown elvis michael jackson chris brown usher around much respect for those who paved the way

  • This is definitely my favorite of his songs.

He was and is truly great..

  • This is so cool my monitor just iced up.

  • Cab is magnificent!

  • Seems as though Mick Jagger got a lot of his moves from Cab as well.

  • put '& harlemaniacs' somewhere in description or title so people can find em. Otherwise, great vid. thumbs up

  • @ChrisCalzone "harlemaniacs" is not the real name of this band! It's just a catchy name that was made up for the movie! The real name of this band at the time was "Cab Calloway & His Orchestra", but if you want to hear the band before Cab took it over, search for "The Missourians"! That was their name before July of 1930! Also search for "The Cotton Club Orchestra", which was their name from 1925 to 1927! But they became famous, only after Cab took over as bandleader in 1930!

  • is he....is he shuffling??? O_O

  • this man inspires me everyday on stage!!! KICK RAWKS

  • a true legend of music. I mean just think how much melody and soul that has. And nowdays just get a few beats together rhyme a little how you gonna shoot people in the face and everybody thinks youre a awesome musician. Kinda makes me laugh

  • Cab is God!!!!!!!!

  • cab is the most jouisif legalised drug

  • cab is the most jouissif legalised drug

  • He sniffed his finger to imply cocaine use. Kicking the gong around was slang for smoking opium. Smokey Joe was a cokehead, as stated in his song "Minnie the Moocher"...

    Cabel was the best!

  • @killaspongebob666 Yes, this was before there were uniform drug laws(1937). He and other could get away with lyrics like this, believe it or not, use of some of the "recreational drugs" was not universally illegal, though definitely frowned upon....

  • ok a) this is real talent b) he wasnt gay c) "moonwalk" is fake mj bs and dont everybody jump on me about how wonder mj was he was a skeleton he sounded like a squeaky squirrel and his so called " moonwalk " was stolen from gene kelley fred astaire and cab calloway

  • @furrowin and bill bailey....but yeah, he did take it off of them. i dunno if he stole it so much as popularised it....but yes, he definatly did not invent it

  • Gay, talented and RED HOT.

  • Comment removed

  • Gay? Cab Calloway wasn't gay! Unless you mean it in that old-fashioned way, meaning "happy".

  • 1:51 wonder why he sniffed his finger? anways thanx for creating the moonwalk!

  • @bluetigressemoon he sniffed some coccaine off his hand

  • A true talent, a great entertainer, so original, - all modern R&B has it's roots right here!

  • Graceful & smooth. But of course he's better Jackson, Brown & Elvis....why, those chaps copied or should I say, emulated Cab.

  • better than micheal jackson

    better than elvis presley

    better than james brown

cab calloway is truely the greatest of all time!

  • FUCK!!! YEAH!!!!

  • @ObiJoe808

You're really stupid. You even don't knwo what are you talking about.

  • @amel82light

Just an opinion, a 2 month old opinion at that. You sure look like the stupid one commenting as such on youtube!

  • @ObiJoe808 him and the guys you announced are my biggest influences of my life the dance and the music

  • @ObiJoe808 you're serious (?)

  • @ObiJoe808 yeah thanks, no

  • @ObiJoe808

i prefer MJ VIDEOCLIPS and stage performances, where charisma, dance moves, songs, script, style, visionariety is BETTER and COOLer.

but i RESPECT THE PAST icons/monuments like Fred Astaire, Cab Calloway, James Brown, etc, etc, etc, etc

  • @ObiJoe808 And everyone says Chuck Berry was the first rock n roll star...

  • @ObiJoe808 That's actually quite an immature claim to make. It's undoubtedly a biased and emotionally driven claim, as opposed to being logical. No objective person would even "consider" making such a claim.

Cab is undeniably an excellend dancer, but when comparing dancing greats, with different personal styles I might add, it's absolutely impossible to definitively say which one is actually the best. Too much of it comes down to personal taste, and ... Continued in next response.

  • @ObiJoe808 And some people seem to have trouble differentiating between personal taste, and actual skill. You may personally be partial to Cab for whatever reason, but neither on a technical level, or on a stylistic level can it rightfully be said that he's any better than MJ, James Brown, Fred Astaire, or any number of other top dancers of the past century.

And as far as Elvis? He may be entertaining but no one considers him to be a serious dancer as compared to the other dancers mentioned

  • Cab Calloway was steppin & moonwalkin 40 years before everybody.

He was a true original... singer and dancer.

an inspiration to the best r&b,pop entertainers to this day.

  • Hey man!!

  • Never saw the movie, but I've seen this at the Ballpark and wondered where it was from. Pretty cool!

  • THIS WAS HILARIOUS!! And I see Cab Calloway was also an Originator to people and culture, like James Brown, Michael Jackson, Rock, and Hip Hop...

I gotta shout out my sis who suggested a Cab Calloway song!

  • so...how did he or how does any of those guys do that tornado spin?

do they spin on their toes or heels or something?

  • You don't have to be 60's or 70's rock star, to sing about drugs.

  • Cab rules! Thanks a lot! I Kick the gong around him!

  • I always thought "kicking the gong around" was slang for smoking opium, yet the gestures Cab makes from 1:51 to 2:00 look like he's pantomiming sniffing cocaine. Maybe Minnie was a multiple substance abuser?

  • Comment removed

  • Smokey Joe was "Cokey". (1:15) ;)

  • Right, I get it now. Joe was the cokehead, Minnie was "kicking the gong around."

Gotta love these old drug songs!

  • this is amazing! Thank you so much for uploading!

  • Hey does anyone know if he was talking about Kansas Joe McCoy AKA "Smoky Joe" and Memphis Minnie? I heard they had quite a tumultuous marriage.

  • He was the best!!

  • Cab was amazing!

  • Thank you soooooo much for this!!!! I've been looking all over for it!

  • Glad this is up again! Classic stuff.

  • finally someone else responds :)
