People have changed their names, for stage names, all the time. Paul McCartney, Elvis Presley, Ringo Starr, Buddy Holly, Del Shannon, Alice Cooper, just to name a few. He changed it for show perposes, not because he's "embarressed" of his heratige. If you listened to his show, he talks about his family and his childhood memories almost all the time.
