  • they are just taking it the wrong way. and im not just saying that because i absolutely love the movie. really now people, do you honestly think that danny boyle spent time money and effort just to insult the poor?

  • there should be a sign in every that says "dont be stupid"

  • I think controversy like this just makes it all the more popular. It turns heads and people think "I have to watch this!" Let the haters hate, but actually watch it before giving an opinion!

  • its not a suprise

when a bollywood movie comes out and there is some controversy there will be a huge protest which blows it out of proportion.

  • Comment removed

  • Good to see some people (the last person interviewed)actually understood what the movie was about, and not just pick apart the title.

  • Ya they should protest!!! Fuckin white trash beggars fucked the entire world. They have no respect, no honour, no regrets...

  • Slum Dwellers Action Committee. LOL.

Stop protesting, get back to work and improve your living conditions.

  • The term slumdog is maybe a reference to the traditional view of India with it's caste system. as in if you are born in the slums you will stay there no matter what , but are the new skyscrapers emerging supposed to mean the breaking of that mindset & a sign of a new Indian way of thinking ? Doesn't mean mean though that those people will get any less poorer over in the short term , though

  • @cruz64 um sorry fail on this one....we dont hate the french for heavens's sake....we may not always agree with the french international policy but we def dont hate them.....not sure where u are getting ur info...

  • For more information, pics. and cool stuff about Freida Pinto visit: freidapinto"co"uk

  • The poor just couldn't accept their image

being exposed to the reality world? Then

that's fear of admitting what they are.

There is no intention to abuse to anywhat

level of society in this film. It's reality, fellas,

Slumdog Millionaire is made using real

life culture and not out of fantasy. The

meaning behind it is even the lowest could

get a chance for a hit at the top.

  • omg...the whole movie is about that people in slums are actually one of the poorest guys alive...and this movie is nothing but protest against all the shit that is going on in the worlds slums - and how the different governments sometimes dont give a shit...so if they protest about them being insulted...they just didnt really get the message - omg poor people

  • so the slum that was not in the movie is protesting, and the slum that was in the movie is celebrating...

  • o.O!

  • Why don't they go protest something that is MORE IMPORTANT? ugh

  • Comment removed

  • its just a misunderstanding. they took the "dog" part literally.

  • these people are fuckin retarded....they don do shit and like pointing fingures on others....

  • I dont get it. they might get from the title that theyre referring to them as "dogs", but thats simply an insult thats use..what..once in the movie? by a fellow indian. it shows that someone with such minimal expectations from millions can do extraordinary things.

  • These "slumdogs" have problaby not even seen this movie. -_-'

  • These protestants sadly don't understand the point with the movie. It's for showing the world the situation these people are living in. So people can wake up and take action, instead they are protesting against it? Just stupid.

  • What? Protestants? Well, hopefully the Catholics understand the point of the movie. ;-)

  • @QbanProductions *Protestors, not Protestants

  • lol i dont think they understand what the movie was about

  • man the protesters dont know that this movie is informing people of their situation

  • Racist tool.

  • Comment removed

  • wow u have no idea what a red neck is

  • fuck unkdm assholes

  • OH MY GOD!!!

That SWEET AND CUTE accent @ 1:33

    That's so adorable!!!! :D

  • Imagine, if they have not selected at least two Indians for Oscar, Indians opinion about this movie would have been different. It doesn't mean that Indians are not talented, but for the west, the important thing is to get support from Indians for projecting Indias poverty by throwing two pieces of meat to divert the attention. Now who are the Idiots?

  • Now you could read the latest news that China makes low quality medicines in and selling in African countries with a label says made in India. The intention is the same. Bringing down Indias image as much as they can.

  • Mr. Amithab Bachan might have well travelled out side India. He knows what is going on out side. Thats why his comment was negative about this movie. Razool Pookutti didnt understand the reason behind Amitabs comment. The Indians who worked behind this movie is a liability to Indias future image and also by allowing this kind of picture about India going outside, short sighted Indian authority committed a crime against India

  • There is a big market for poverty porn. Danny just capitalized on it.

  • what do you mean?

  • indians are just being gay because they made a movie about what REALLY does happen.

shit. we all know your poor. why make a big deal when its true?

i say its good to make a movie to show the world how people live. it makes people actually feel grateful. and thats a feeling we dont understand until somethin bad has happened to us.

  • how would u kno?? r u even indian?

  • @cr4zym3x1c4n huh?? is that all u got from it???? a feeling of gratefulness that its not YOU in the slums anywhere???? well watch the movie again ....its about seeing and hearing what are these peoples lives and more importantly....becoming apart of the world community and working to make this planet a better place for everyone!!

  • 1:57 news reader is saying something different and zaheer saying different.

  • what was he saying instead?

  • Zaheer is saying india's name was always on the top, and it is on the top.

and news reader says if this movies wins an oscar it will take countrys name to the new heights.

india has rich history, if you are an indian then you will consider this statement.

and i am not comparing my india with anybody and can not.

  • you idiots from pakistan and india need to stop fighting each other and start killing the british devil.

  • We Indins don't go to paki videos and post crap there. In fact we don't even give a damn about them. Its those jealousy Pakis who come to Indian videos and bash. Their fault!!

Present Britain is much more reliable than Pakistan

  • Movie makers are real rascals.their concentration is only on that, how to create some

aristocratic prostitutes. who care about slum kids. they take only the name for the label

    " slum dogs "!!!

  • its really sad that anyone living there, they are so great kids and no one deserve that life...theres so many rich people on the world spent money on the nonsense and they just dont care for those who dont have nothing:(

  • It so sad that this things also hapen in India like here in the philippines.the muslim are being discriminated.I love this movie!

  • I can understand how the people from the slums felt that the use of dog was offensive but I dont think it was meant like that. I'm glad this movie shed light to the poverty India has. Some ppl think it just colorful and glitzy like what u see in the Bollywood movies. Like every country it has its poor too. This movie was great and inspiring

  • ITS JUST A MOVIE!!!

its not about you ... its about jamal .. ok?

    chill~

  • @melissadianne999 ,,,lol

  • yeah i really love these people....instead of doing something by themselves, they get active with full of wisdom shits when someone else develops some effort....wow!!! what heroes...

  • it doesnt mean that because the title of the movie is slumdog that means already that they're calling those people there DOGS.. its just the title.. no big deal.. u should be happy.. you got noticed.. lucky kid though.. he has visa lol

  • they call them kutas. that means dogs. they do call poor people kutas. these indians are lying.

  • I think joshielaine said it in the wrong words. Slum "dog" is just a term. the title was meant to say that their lives aren't good and compared to the life of a dog from the slums but it did not CALL them a dog. The poverty level shown in the movie is completely true and the title fits, not the people, but their living condition.

  • Sometimes i get the feeling these people are just bored and seeking attention.

  • yah i can see that ur really high joke

  • when they sed slumDOG they didnt mean it for all of them! the only some wat ment it for jamal

  • Instead of burning effigies & staging a media event, spend that energy on cleaning up your slum. You'd get a lot more accomplished.

  • I don't expect an intelligent answer from someone that uses 'yo mama' rhetoric. But, tell me, how is directing positive energy towards a realistic & constructive goal sick?

  • hows ur mama

    i mean obama??

  • unfortunately there are always contraversies no matter what the situation is in these places.

  • IT'S MY VISA!

  • I think the term slumdog is used delibratley 'cos partly thats what the film is about. That they don't believe he knew all the anwsers cos he's "just a slumdog".

  • Kids from India are natural born actors. Notice how they held up their fists in protest for the the camera right on cue.

  • This is an amazing film and the protesters should realize that pretty much every movie isn't always totally truthful

  • So what are the slums mad about? They are not portrayed in a realistic fashion? Oh right, they live in the style of rich and famous with fancy cars and big mansions and man servants!

  • It seems they did not watch the movie or rather the theme that was conveyed did not reach their heads.

It is quite easy to make these people boil for unknown reasons and this is most often done by an local "knowledgeable politicians" who exactly knows the psychological friction they have in their minds for long time.

I do not have better words than these to tell abouot the situation.

  • Like it or not, where ever their are slums or poor areas, the people are always looked down on by the higher classes. This movie has done more for the Indian slums than Bollywood has done in a whole.I hope to see more crossover in the future.

  • Its not a Portrayal of India as bad or good.. Its not possible to show everything in one movie.. Why the hell do we have all the Yash raj, Johar movies showing ultra rich indians. Thats not even 1 % of India.. See the truth, accept it.. A well directed movie with good soundtrack... And anyways, I feel that we indians just have some way of politicising everything instead of appreciating someone.. Which is so clear when you see no one even clapping these days when the winner accepts an award..

  • the poor people complaining are crying over nothing. slumdog, slumworkers, the entire term of slum anything is degrading but they do it to themselves. their argument makes absolutely no sense.

  • sometimes people are jealous

  • the slums in Inda a real, i were adopted from India. I was picked up from the slum as well, and my brother is some where in the slums too, i dont know. But i love the movie. All the bollywoods movie never shows a poor side of india, and that kind of annoyed me. But this is the best movie i've ever seen

  • they still have the slum now?

  • whatever

  • To me, the term slumdog means someone dear to our hearts.

  • so no one here has ever heard of the word 'underdog' (?) is underdog derrogatory? no--it's a figure of speech. perhaps if folks were as outraged over poverty as they are over political correctness, the world be would be a better place.

  • "perhaps if folks were as outraged over poverty as they are over political correctness, the world be would be a better place"

    too true

  • thousand claps!!!

  • Abe bhosdike. Madarchod Gujaratiyoo ko gaali kyun deta hai? Chootmarike, Gujarati aur Marwariyoon ke paas hi sab paise hai. Teri maa ko kharidkar usese raandigiri karavoonga...woh bhi dharvi ki galyioon mein

  • oy mother fuker wat did muslim do to u u fuck brain go get a life u stinking son of a bitch

    MUSLIMS RULEEE

  • what the hell does this video have to do with any of that? It may portray india as it really is, which is the point of this video (and the controversy over the title and such) but what does religion have to do with the video itself? I understand it's place in the conflicts and violence but not this video. Don't be ignorant and type all the shit you've been fed.

  • Pure Ignorance. May God Bless them

  • Ignorance.

  • I love this movie ♥

It's so sad and funny at the same time =3 The Director was just showing how India really is.

  • actually I was born in US but am Indian and I know not all of India is really like that.

And also I love the movie

    LoL =]

  • y dont u like slumdog? it was awesome oh well u hav ur own opinion and so do i

  • whats up with India and their protest ..burning and shit????

i remember when they got kicked out of the WC cricket 2007..they did the same thing too...and attack the players!!

jezz take it easy....its just a movie...which brought out some great emotions..

  • I am an indian, I watch many indian films. This is the first indian film I've seen that is associated with Hollywood. I thought the film was great. I don't understand what the hell these people are thinking, the film was not untruthfully referencing, it was great. It should be something Indians should take pride in, not make a fuss over. But whatever I guess.

  • These hindus are mad cause they showed rama, but everytime a movie is predajuce against muslims and lies about muslims nobody cares. Hindus shut the fuck up and deal with this stuff cause we muslims have to deal with it too!

  • whats up with hindus and muslims. people are basically not happy with the way India is portrayed here. Are you an Indian??

  • I think it's empowering that Indians have represented their opinions. The movie is after all, a story told through the filter and eyes of two Englishmen.

  • This doesn't really contradict what you said, but many people don't know that the story is based on a novel by an Indian Author. He did object to the name "Slumdog Millionaire" replacing his original title.

  • yeah..I love the film, however the entire time I was watching I couldn't help but wonder how the actual residents of the slums and the people of India as whole were reacting.

  • thats not true englishdosser. If I make a movie about the freedom struggle during 1947 and portray Britain as the worst country in the whole world will you accept the movie with open arms???Won't your citizens protest??? Do you remember the kind of response "Lagaan" got???

  • The irony. They have tried to protest how they were portrayed by 'burning an effigy'?!? That undermines their integrity worse than the movie ever could have.

  • Do you really think its sensible to judge a country's real status by this kind of movies. Just by reading "Oliver Twist" will you say Europe is in poverty??Its true that slums like this exist in India. But India is not all about slums. There are much more.If you think India is not good enough ,that's your low self-esteem problem.Don't say "we Indians" .Its just your opinion that India is poor.

  • Don't ever forget that India has made many of the world's richest men.tata, ambani, birls, laxmi mittal and many more. Most of the Indians are upper middle class but 28% of India's population lives in poverty. Only this 28% population finds a page in Hollywood. What about the remaining 72%???? Why don't you judge India based on the majority instead of complaining about everything based on the minority.

  • ha ha..28& percent live in poverty - its more like 70% indians live in abject poverty...asshole get the facts right

  • yes bastard!!! only 28 % of the population is in poverty. If you are an uneducated retard keep your ignorance to yourself!!! No need to flaunt it!!!

I know you are a Pakistani. Pakistan is nothing compared to India. So shut the fuck up and get lost!!!

  • in your delusional dreams assholes. 700 million + people in india living in abject poverty below a dollar a day, read the facts - just google. in a 1.1 billion people is 700 million plus 28% ...learn your facts Indian monkey

  • hello Mr.Pakistani cheap retarded bastard!!! Check UNO's report bastard. Only Pakistanis are dumb enough to believe in unreliable blogs which appear in google search. India's literacy rate, growth rate, industrial growth rate etc... are higher than your useless good-for-nothing Porkistan. screw yourself!!!

  • only a turd face indian will make a stupid claim when the whole world knows that India has 700 million poor living in abjecxt poverty, read economist asshole, stupid stinky indian faggot doesn't even know his own fucking country.

  • so what's your problem ass hole?? Everybody knows about India and fucking British rule which looted most of its wealth... (This one is for you if you are British..Even the Kohinoor is from India which is in UK's possession).

And now you claim that India is poor country.. You beggar British Bastard.. stop stealing from other countries and earn your wealth and talk about other countries.

    STFU....and ***k off.

  • why are laughing you idiot.. if it is true try to do something instead of laughing..

What is it so funny for you there..??

  • fact is we indians live in a state of self denial. We don't want to accept the truth as being shown to us by an outsider.

  • it's sad how some judge people from where they came from..

  • The protester have no education, that's why they are afended .... They should get over it ...They should be proud that this movie won so many Oscar's....

  • What if there had been an Indian director instead of a British one? Do you think that would have changed anything? I don't. This film was based on a book written by an INDIAN author, so it's pretty authentic to me.

I believe that the movie will raise AWARENESS, and that's extremely crucial at this point.

  • it is nice movie! the movie slumdog millionaire is not show how poor the country it is but, in the life of individual. This Slumdog is a great movie for me... eventhough i am poor person and become who i am now because of something who encourage to do something and not being a poverty remain in my life. Slumdog gave a lesson to everybody. It seems like in saying says " Dont wait tomorrow comes if you can do it today". an everything happen in our life has a purpose.

  • The dude had a patethic aguement to make a protest man.

...no matter how u interpetate the "Dog" part. The only story told is the real life of the ones in the slums...

  • Grey haired protestor - So dumb, he takes little children to protest with him, they don't even have an idea of their protesting..

  • They just wanna get on TV, They havent taken any offence.

  • that girl Tanvi Lonkar is so cute! i wish i cud marry her lol, im 16

  • Name calling. Who cares? Fact is, I love these little slumdogs, & hope for their future happiness.

  • wow. that sucks that people were offended. i'm not going to pretend like i know anything about what the slums in india are really like... but i just saw the movie and it is one of the greatest movies i've ever seen

  • well...to end it all....the people who gave away the oscars are not fools......to judge this film as best in the respective catagories........and i guess a lot among those oscar people were americans.....

  • An Indian invented hotmail to! =) Good way to show that douche. Thanks :D

  • Im glad some of them are embracing t he positive outcome of this film =).

  • well done... sorry!:S

  • one of the must weel done movies in our times , protests of indian kids??? they dont even know what a protest is!!!

  • yeeee slumdog man, sickest movie ive seen since the dark knight, one of the greatest movies of our generation fer sureeee

  • so what if it was terrible? there were kids in the movie who lived in the slums of india, do ya think they'd know how to act as good as other actors?

  • Yes I do.

  • those kids have more acting in their fingers than you will ever have in your whole life racist fuck

  • in fact the kids were more expressive in the movie than frieda and dev, although the two of them got all the attention.

  • I think people should just get past their origan and religon no matter where your from because it just stirs up silly hateful emotions for no good reason. this film was great, it helped you to understand what alot of kids go through in the slums and i personnaly think everyone in the world should be made aware of this.

  • omg people always have something to complain about, can't they just watch and enjoy the movie.

  • exactly!

  • no good turn goes unpunished

  • has anyone noticed how the most hateful comments on youtube are on vids relating to india and pakistan,,by people of indian and pakistani origin???? i dont seem to see that much hatred and frustration on videos relationg to other nationalities...i wonder why this is the case???????????? can sum1 plz explain????

  • i totally agree with you

  • I absolutely agree with the prosters.....had this film elude Oscars every body would ve joined the protesters so the real thing that has been stage managed are the awards givin to some Indians to shut the mouths of one billion Indians shown in poor light around the world....thats was a bait hung on top of the nose of our ONE BILLION INDIAN succors and we took it ....Jai HOOO ARR

  • These protesters looks like they have been paid to protest! The mob just looks to me it is made up! Not something which they really wanted to do!!

Just ask that old man if he liked the film... he would say... 'Bilkul'

  • ahhahahhaaha what does bilkul mean? i loved the movie it was wicked

  • means - 'For sure'

  • Narrow minded Indians mistreating other Indians in aboard. Foreign people are seeing this mistreatment at schools, offices, neighborhood, temples, airport etc.

  • People need to treat other people with dignity, polite, respect, kind etc. Show courtesy towards unfortunate people compared with themselves. Unfortunate can happen different ways, like wealth, health, caring supporters, etc. Some people through their Non violence activities, creating Violence, knowingly/unknowingly. People only can know fully about the other person who is close to them. So people need to focus on their work. Till mistreatment changes one can expect this kind of movies.

  • well da thng now is dat i like indian movie i m a bangladeshi its ryt if it was an bollywood movie it wud hav sukd but made its mark at da hollywood. Coz hollywood people didnt ever see an indian or asian movie to b precise. so response was outrageous but i didnt lyk da movie really waz shocking to see sumthn lyk dis gettin an oscar.................

  • why wher eyou shocked i think it did deserve it this movie is amaizing better than most hollywood movies i have seen. am glad it won 8 oscars

  • Gosh the Indians need to relax...they always find something to complain about and funny how it all links back to the western world. If bollywood made this movie and still called it slumdog millionarie then they wouldnt care!

I am an Indian myself and im sick of these bitches running around burning bloody posters etc. Start by getting rid of the slums and improving your quality of life for the sake of your children instead bitches!!!!

  • Shut the fuck up and get a hold of urself. Do u even know why India's in its dire state of poverty right now? Guess who. The BRITISH EMPIRE BITCH! Look at the facts and ull see what Britain did to India. The following is all facts and u guys can reserch it if u want. India was the richest country in the world in the 18th century just be4 the english came and stripped them of their wealth. The royal crown contains the Kohinoor Diamond and England wont giv it back.

  • Ok first of all...

1.Why the fuck are you getting all bothered about my comment...you arent even Indian you are Sri Lanken.

    2. if you dont like the British people (and I know you hate the whites the most) then why dont you fuck off back home ey ey ey

  • 1. The reason i got so bothered is coz u indians are turning white. U people sit and cuss indian culture and praise white people and want to be like them. Well Im actually proud of the motha country (India) and my tamil background.

    2. I have loadsa white friends and I love Britain, but not its past and people like u like to put their own country down just to look "Civilised" Fucking coconut. Brown on the outisde white on thi inside lol.

  • Im not turning white, I have family in India, I go to visit them every 2 years and 6 weeks at a time and I love it. I have an indian and english flag in my house.

What pisses me off is that you are still hanging on to the past. Yeh the British fucked US Indians over but get over it. Im not saying we should forget but move on too.

Danny Boyle brough bollywood to hollywood and casted 2 poor children, given them a future and all the Indians can do is pick out the negatives.

  • well india is moving on in industry. Soon it will be a major player in buisness in the world. At the moment it has the 2nd highest rate of industry growth in the world. So dont think india isnt moving on

  • Comment removed

  • wat the fuck r u on about. This is what happens when u put up an unexpected fact. People get jealous and annoyed that a white country is not richest. Well guess what. India was very fucking rich. A typical dumb uneducated american wouldnt know but the BRITISH chose to invade India for its riches. Not becoz it was a so called trash country as u have said u fucking idiot. If u type in india richest country in the world ull see what im talkin about.

  • Comment removed

  • @ fdesouchecom

Very funny. This proves the knowledge of a typical American. You know something?? Many Americans are good. But some like you, who are totally jealousy about most of your country projects being outsourced to India. Just throwing out too much of hatred towards us. Remember, there are more than 30% of Indians in all the field in US. US is a BIG ZERO without Indians and many other country citizens. Native Americans are full of fools. You people are nothing without us.

  • @fdesouchecom .........people dont respond to him..attention only supports his ignorant efforts....there is no room in America for bigotry....we have struggled and bled and died to end this kind of pathetic rhetoric...I feel very sorry for u fdesouchecom...I truly hope as an American myself that you are NOT Americian....I am so tired of white trash thinking.....thank God we elected Obama..

  • Of all the movies nominated for Oscars this year SM was the best. But Bollywood has made movies that are way better than SM.

  • i know, i think cos in sm they spoke english init i watch bollywood movies sometimes but sometimes i cnt be bothered to read the sub. and i still think it deserved to win them oscars.

  • read the book, Q&A.

  • Whats wrong with the movie?? There are lot of Hollywood movies about poverty. Will you guys say America is in poverty just by watching those movies. India has launched n number of satellites,we have nuclear power, our GDP is great, our growth rate is good,we have some of the world's richest men.Whoever says India is poor because of the movie is a retard.

  • Hey, proof us wrong. Do some research on the Oscars. The only problem I see with it, is you might get a bunch of lies.

Over the years, I have learned not to trust Hollywood. They do what ever pleases the audience because they love money above all things.

Don't get me wrong, there are lot of passionate film makers out there, but a lot of them have to be backed by the big movie companies who are the ones that like money and pull the strings.

  • I honestly believe "Slumdog Millionaire" deserved the awards it got. I saw the other movies Benjamin Button,The Reader etc..They weren't as impressive as SM. But I know lot of Hindi movies which are way better than SM.I think those movies deserve Oscars first. Is there some sort of partiality or politics going on there??
