I'm far from an expert in wing suit jumps, but I can't help but wonder whether the fairly high altitude affected the wing-suit glide performance? I ask becuase around 1:16, it looks like the jumper attempted to flair into a flatter glide angle, but then abandoned it for more speed before flairing into a glide configuration.
I don't know much about wing-suiting being more of an old-school climber/mountaineer myself, but I think the thinner air at altitude would almost cetainly have hampered the intitial moments of their flight...don't know enough about the technicalities of flying in free-fall!
The Great Trango face is not as high a drop, being the second highest basejump in the world. I could give you some further details, but perhaps you should do a little research...
Yeah sorry mate, but I just pulled it from the Baseclimb webiste to be the first to post the record on Youtube :oP
early wingsuit prototypes I believe?
I think there's more footage available of their free-fall, but you'd have to search elsewhere, and though I know there's an old style VHS video about of this exploit, I'm not sure if it's available on a DVD/digital format?
Afraid I'm mostly too lazy to trawl+post any similar or better ones..? :o)
If I remember correctly this man's wife had never done any kind of jump AT ALL until about a year before this film was made, and she was hospitalised with a ruptured colon during her training ..... what a gal huh ? The movie was shown around the UK sponsored by Nissan i think.
Think the thin-air at altitude and the early prototype wing-suits would have hampered them more than usual, especially compared to what's available nowadays..?
yup - it took another 36 hours to descend the route back to basecamp / clean the hill of fixed lines and wander out around the glaciers back to the landing camp area ...
It took us another 36 hours to descend the hill retrieving all our fixed lines / camps etc and get around to the landing camp on the eastern side of the mountain below Mt Shivling.
After I left basecamp I spent 21 days on the hill without comming down - Glenn and Heather descended a couple of times to rest.
Mmm the landscape is not so great (there's just rock & snow), we don't see much of the jump although it's supposed to last longer, and they seem very unstable in the air and not enjoying it.
Yeah OK it's high but so what? The video is kinda crap!
Look at the jumps you can make in Norway, much better!
Just putting it out there... that is Meru Peak, not Mount Meru at all. There should be no (Mount Meru) in the info. Mount Meru is in TANZANIA. Meru Peak is in THE HIMALAYAS. They are very different places.
Pretty un-believable isnt it; though I'm not sure how much of that height is actual vertical cliff, and what's mountainside +talus (detritus slope at base of main cliff), so I personally couldn't tell you all the detail. Perhaps u cld ask the poster above who was on the expedition..?

And what a jump! That takes some serious guts - that's beyond impressive.
Thanks for the vid. Pretty intense!

well usually us mountaineers do that anyway heh.. this is the FUN way.. and believe it or not its safer that walking off :)
