I would like to see him in american films.. or at least have his name be more well known in america..i think he'll make a great role model for asian-americans.
I agree with him on "Memoirs of a Geisha". I do not speak Japanese, but I felt really weird about seeing a movie about Geisha's that featured mostly Chinese actresses. Everyone spoke English, it just didn't seem right to me. Maybe people wouldn't have seen it if it were in Japanese with subtitles? But I feel like it took away from the film.
yeh..it seems zhang ziyi/ ziyi zhang has been featured in all the big wuxia/ martial arts/ asian movies and she's awesome BUT why not use a fresh new japanese girl as the main char? since it was about japanese geishas..plus, subtitles would've made it more authentic :S
and argh, takeshi would suit either chinese or japanese films, since he's half & half *squeal*
but i feel that he was too humble, not giving too much compliments to his own asian cinema despite the interviewer's insistence on the grandeur of asian cinema. i am proud; as an asian, that asians create such magical wonders in entertainment! keep it up!
Thank you to the person who uploaded this! Thank you so much! I've spent a long time looking for this interview including trying to join Takeshi's club but couldn't join because they were full.
his english is pretty good for someone who never study aboard but u can tell he searches for words at times which is understandable. but sometimes he mumbles the answers and doesn't seem to answer the question but he is hot, anyway
Another tidbit of information. The movie Too Tired to Die done in 1998 which he starred with Mira Sorvino he does completely in English. It is a dark storyline and a bit avant garde for me, but it was a delightful chage to not have to read captions while watching one of his films.
My understanding is he's mastered 5 languages and find speaking english a little uncomfortable because he finds himself searching for the right words. He went half his school time to a Tiwanese English school because he was picked on for his mix heritage in the other schools.
What he says about hollywood is so true! Asian actors are so pigeonholed in the roles they are offered. It sucks too. Hopefully things will change though.
i agree, love looking at him; he has a versatile face = angularly soft ~ male and female. enjoy it when he talks too since he's known for being a recluse.
he speaks english, chineses and japanese!!! how talented~~~~ what more could u ask from such a handsome guy? compaaing with guys with looks but no brains~ hee~~ he's HOT~~~
I guess marking them 2 and 3 is good enough. Thanks again for taking the time to put up the interview. It's the first time I've ever gotten to see one of this length. You rock!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for uploading this...
And he's smart.... *sigh*
