Living in the St. Louis area, I've been told my entire life that we are one day going to get hit with an earthquake none of us are prepared for. Schools do drills, but we won't be ready. Most of the buildings in the heart of St. Louis are brick. It's scary to think about, but you can't exactly live your life in fear of what might happen.

Canada won't be affected as much by natural disastors because we are not on any major fault lines (double check this), however the coast may be affected - for example british columbia. @DenOfWhasps and geological evidence shows that a large quake occurs ROUGHLY every 2 thousand years or so in that area, so predicting exactly when the quake will strike is impossible.

I remember back when I was living in the lower portion of Michigan and felt an earthquake around 10am one morning. The news said it was from the Madrid region. Thus why lower Michigan is included in the area that is effected. That was only a small earthquake & Michigan felt it. If a major one happened then the whole continental USA would likely feel it, along with Canada & Mexico.

ALERT: Within the next 48 hours, we should know if they are blowing the levee in the New Madrid Fault area. Thousands are being evacuated. The fault area has multiple GAS PIPELINES running through it. The amount of pressure exerted onto the fault area will be substantial and dangerous. They have 256 tons of dynamite to use all around the area. Considering that the same company responsible for the Levees failing in Katrina are also doing this event, we all need to be aware and prepared.

Living in the St. Louis area, I've been told my entire life that we are one day going to get hit with an earthquake none of us are prepared for. Schools do drills, but we won't be ready. Most of the buildings in the heart of St. Louis are brick. It's scary to think about, but you can't exactly live your life in fear of what might happen.

I live right outside of Memphis. We'd been having tiny earthquakes. Come to find out, fracking in Arkansas was the cause from natural gas drillers. WHO THE HELL would fracture the earth near a fault line. They halted work, so we shall see when they start doing it again. Come on man made earthquake. :D

Canada won't be affected as much by natural disastors because we are not on any major fault lines (double check this), however the coast may be affected - for example british columbia. But still we will be affected by the world economic collapse etc. So be prepared.

@mriceagegrillz1 Hard to say. earthquakes are the least predictable of any natural disaster (hurricanes, volcanos, tusunami's all typically give enough warning signs for the majority to evacuate - not that they always do). Eathquakes, like volcanoes are a product of plate techtonics and opperate on a time scale of hundredes of years or so. The New Madrid fault's last major event was 1811, before that? - no written records, so............

@sdmagn I believe the last major earthquake was in 1811, not that it was the last earthquake from the Madrid region. I remember back when I was living in the lower portion of Michigan and felt an earthquake around 10am one morning. The news said it was from the Madrid region. Thus why lower Michigan is included in the area that is effected. That was only a small earthquake & Michigan felt it. If a major one happened then the whole continental USA would likely feel it, along with Canada & Mexico.

Never happened, now I'm not saying it wont someday, it 100% will for sure! But we who live here know that it could be today or 50 years from now. I heard that if New Madrid goes off at 1906 SF size or 1989 Loma Prieta size that people in Chicago and New Orleans can get damage that way The Marina District in SF did and like what the Cypress freeway did in Oakland got simply because Chicago and New Orleans are built on landfill and swamps

im moving to East st. louis on the 13th of july, i never knew tht st. louis area has had earthquakes before. There was one last year? what magnitude??
