Ever notice that Hoops more than any other sport argue about "who's better" Why not just let players be great in their own right instead of trying to figure out who's better than who. I mean if Shaq played in the 50's and 60's for that Celtic team - you don't think he would have 11 rings? - Imagine Jordan in that era. LeBron would be bigger and stronger than most Centers.

@onn1320 You can't do that. Because eras, rules, technology, nutrition, etc have evolve as well as players. Russell is one of the fathers of basketball. It's evolution. You cannot judge players outside their eras. Even though, a lot of them could play and dominate today like they did in their times. Some of them even more.

@onn1320 You can, but you shouldn't. I say some of them would dominate based on their skill level. Not necessarily because Kobe's that wasn't even close to be the player that his son is. It didn't suck. The game evolved and there were more centers than Wilt and Bill but those 2 were the best two. Willis Reed, George Mikan, Walt Bellamy, etc. You should respect them because without no Dr. J, there's no Jordan, and without no Jordan, there's no Kobe. Especially this last one who copied every move.

@onn1320 Some of them are in fact better than some players today. More skilled if you will. Wilt, for instance, could play in any era and still be dominant because of his skill level and how big and athletic he was. You also need to understand how rules have changed which also allow players today to be more flashy than before. The way many players dribble today wouldn't be accepted back in the day and would have been a turnover.

@onn1320 Maravich played in the 70's by the way and the way Kobe, Wade, and many others today dribble would be consider a travel back in the day. Actually, the average size for those years was 6'6''. Today is 6'5''. There were plenty of 6'11'' 7'0'' guys.

And I didn't compare Russell to Scalabrine. - I said a lot of Wilt's competition were Scalabrines - Russell was one of his few better rivals. As for as the dribble. - when did Tiny Archibald player or Cousy who was nicked named Hodini? No matter how little or how much knowledge one has of Russell. Only thing that can be proven is what he did during his time.

@onn1320 There wasn't a lot of "Scalabrines" in the league. I doubt Scalabrine can play in the fast pace of that era for 48 min. I don't think he has the stamina to even play 20 in today's game. He's overweight. You don't get what I'm saying about dribbling. Cousy always dibbled with his hand down and lower than his waist. That was a rule back in the day. I agree nothing can be proven, but then again, why are you saying that some of these guys couldn't play well today or some are better? That's

If by "more skilled" you me fundamentals - then ok. But they are many players that are just as skilled today without the same fundamentals.

Hell, if players like Scalabrine, Brian Cardinal, and Mbenga are in the NBA I have no doubt that Wilt would not only be part of the roster, but he would be a starter. Only place I'm going with this is that there's no proof. - No way to truly tell - He's not in today's game, but in modern times Olajuwon had skill, Duncan had skill, Ewing had skill, David R., Yao when Healthy, Aldridge. And if these guys could avg. 20-30 attempts like he did who knows. His teams was so good he had to avg. so many shots? Scalabrine? a lot of his competition were Scalabrines. And why did you switch to Wilt when Russell was the main guy we were talking about...hmmm.

@onn1320 Aldridge isn't a center. He's a PF. The reason why Wilt averaged all those attemps is because the game was different and there were far more possesions and shots per game. You also need endurance and stamina to be able to shot that effectively so many shots. Scalabrines? LMAO Russell was a great defender. He was never special on the offensive end but did a lot of those things that doesn't show up in the scoreboard. I really think you're talking without no knowledge of the matter.

I was really referring to Russell, but since you switched focus to Wilt - even without true proof - I have to give it to Wilt - I can't say the same for Russell, but for Wilt I'm sure he could hold his own in today's NBA, but average 30 and 20 - I highly doubt.

I don't see who could defend his shot, foot work, athleticism which was simply ridiculous when he was as fast as a guard and jump as high as Dwight, but his arms and legs were longer. Wilt was truly a freak of nature and unlike shaq, he never bullied anybody. He beat everyone with finesse.
