@Hanoshiro oh little grasshopper....real fact....? oh yes ..thas why in UFC, K1 many champion prectice Karate......ah yeah...real fact.....good bye, you are so boreing.
@qwertyxx22 yeah its a real fact. and whats so big about this k1 and ufc eh? they're learning only a sport or some take down game. dont bring the mma here cuz its only a game not a fighting style. just because they neglected karate because the mma deals with grappling or wrestling or take down doesnt mean that karate is not a tough sport. mma is useless when it comes to real fighting. its onlt a sport. there's no foul or warning in real fight. karate deals with real fights mma only in sports
@qwertyxx22 go and do your mma. you dont know anything about fighting you only know how to play some kick boxing. your only a sportsman not a real fighter. "mr. sports man" or mr.gamer your just a fake fighter only good in sport fighting
@qwertyxx22 man!!! how the hell can you be so dumb? you only fight in a sport. you havent even fought for real in a street. there are many cases where the karate has also defeated the mma in kick boxing game. i have seen it myself. and the reason why karate kung fu is not good enough for mma cuz its grappling techniques are not sportive like mma. the grappling techniques is to be lethal and can even break bones or neck and can kill someone in real fights. karate is better in striking than mma
@qwertyxx22 i myself a karate kung fu practitioner and i even know grappling techniques from these which are rarely taught. because of this i have taken the out the hell crap from the mma fighters or kick boxers in real fights. i never did mma but i have fought and broken many fighter's bones whether mma or whatever his style is

Why no mention of the fact that most of Kyokushinkai karate is based on Goju-Ryu karate? Mostly only the basic kata is derived from Shotokan with the advanced kata (except kanku) all coming from Goju Karate. This mirrors Oyama's own learning, he studied basic Shotokan and advanced Goju-ryu.
Tae kwon do wasn't formalized until the 1950s and 1960s. In 1938, he studied the art of taekyun (one of the styles that parented tkd). And yes, he was Korean. ^_^
his real name was choi bae dal, he learnt tae kwon do and taekyyun and then he invented kyukoshin karate, his amazing thing was he killed a bull with his bare hands, he was born in korea
Do remember that MMA can never consider as a true martial art system. Although it is named as mix martial art but it will never possess such a true martial art spirit of Kyokushin, Taekwondo, Judo, Jiujitsu and etc. Osu!
@Kokainuser muay thai strikes bags, we strike concrete, wood anything hard enough to make our ,fists, legs, head whatever, as hard as rocks.Thats just one thing.Nothing against muay thai, but kyokushin not only teaches how to fight and build a strong body, but how to build a strong mind as well.
The real reason why Oyama retreated to the mountains for 3 years is because someone tried to rob him and he killed that man with a single punch, or so that was what I was told by the karate people that are in their 40's.
@HomasterX What Karate People? My Shihan is Maki Hisao, who trained directly undr, and was one of his first students. It wasn't anything to do with getting robbed.

Well, I dont actually know about Oyama's story. But my grandfather used to own a farm. One of the neighbouring farmer called Otto once knocked a full grown bull out after his litte daughter got into the fence with the bull and threatent to charge her.
So my point is, if he can break ice and rocks, a bulls skull shiuldnt be to much of a challange ;)
In my opinion, Oyama was a better inovator and creator of a combat system than a fighter. I think since he invented Kyokunshin, there have been better fighters, even in his own art. i respect your opinion, and i dont disagree with it, but i cant help but wonder what your sources are "the bulls were sick, malnurished, and tied down." history is murky when it comes to martial arts legend.
Oh, there were many books writen about those times. The 100 man kumite (which was a sparring match Oyama had with all his students), the bull killing, the "man who has no equal" claims. There are martial arts history books that question who Oyama ever fought? Who did he beat from other systems (boxers, wrestlers, etc.)? The bulls videos, some are actually on Youtube and some you can get through Ebay. Witnesses said bulls were marked for slaughter, tied, tired out, and sick.
Music is a personal taste and its a false presupposition that putting dance/trance under a video is disrespectfull. Based on what it is disrespectfull?
hey Creative am not a fan of Oyama but I don't thin it was disrepectfull to him to put some trance music I think that the guy who did the video did with full respect took the time to honor that guy If you are such a fun why don't U make one
Hey crazylilyoshi, If you read his biography, he is Korean who moved to Japan during his teen age years. Please do some research before making such statements. Thanks.
word 'masutatsu' for korean is like yamato for japanese. ancient koreans often called themselves people of baedal, and when you pronounce baedal in japanese, its masutatsu.
Good job. The whole video is awsome. Just a reminder to all of those who don't like Karate Do or all the experts out there who like to give their two sentenses without thinking or ever doing real Karate Do. Boo hoo.
Why do you think Michida is distroying all of those butt heads MMA's with traditional Karate eh??? Think about it.
Keep the good work. Long Live Oyama San and Be with God.
I am 'dai fan' (Japanese for big fan) of Mas Oyama. But I read in a book called From Lee to Li that he was born Korean and lived there till he was 15. Real name not Mas Oyama.
He was born Choi Yeong-eui, but preffered to be called Choi Bae-dal. When he defeated all the Japanese fighters, Japan made him Japanese because they felt ashamed. From that point on Choi Bae-dal was called Masutatsu Oyama. He was born Korean.
Yeah, you're right. Actually he's Korean, and his original name is Hyung Yee Choi. later he wanted to be a pilot in the war, so he moved to Japan, and actually the family he lived with had the name Oyama. He changed his name after them as a sign of gratitude. That's how he became Masutatsu Oyama from Hyung Yee Choi.
Clearly, Masu was Korean, a proud Japanese-citizen Karate master. Why did you miss out that fact? I don't see any mention of kempo in his personal documentaries. This is new to me.
Taekwondo as it's called today didn't develop until the 1950s, but there were Korean martial arts organizations 5 of which combined to form Taekwondo. I'm not going to say these were purely Korean, one was the Chungdokwan, which is the Korean pronunciation of Shotokan, and another was based in Chinese Goju if I remember right. So, "taekwondo" did exist before being named as such, but not in the same manner as it exists today.
I could be wrong but... I thought he only spent about a year training in the mountains (14 months). Not that it was easy... Oyama is still a legend 4 sure...
He went 2 times to the mountais... The first he has to return before compleating his trainning cos of his "mecenas" couldn't pay his trainning... after returning to the civilization he took a second chance to go to the mountains and that¡s why he stayed almost 3 years...
nice vid^^ i am maybe going to japan and train and i am just 13 years old from sweden did won swedish kyokoshin unio's junior camp won 5/6 matches^^!!
so, this "art" teaches to kick to the head, but not to guard it? this is what the end of the vid tells me!

Taekwondo in 1938? G.M. Choi gives to the korean arts that become TKD this name until 1955.

Peekingduck 2 years ago 2
He went 2 times to the mountais... The first he has to return before compleating his trainning cos of his "mecenas" couldn't pay his trainning... after returning to the civilization he took a second chance to go to the mountains and that¡s why he stayed almost 3 years...
