  • Those turbos sound like a Fucking jet car , after burning at the pro tree. Made the hair on my neck stand!!!!

  • coby rabon is my idle and, my cousin its awsome to be able to call him that.

  • It says automatic "shifters" are not allowed which means he can't use a shift timer and solenoid to activate the shift. Automatic transmissions are legal as long as the shifts are done by the driver.

  • Its the same motor as Tim Lynch..its 670 but has 108mm not 94mm

  • we have coby's car at our shop right now doing some repairs and changing the setup. it is a very nice car and there has been several hours put into it. and yes, it is over 600ci.lol

  • Automatic or not, Coby's car is 600+ cubic inches, NHRA pro mod has a 540 cubic inch limit for turbocharged entries in pro mod...regardless, I was at this event and seeing this car pick up steam on the back half of the track is absolutely awesome.

  • @johnhalama

Thanks for the post John. I can imagine it would've been awesome to see in person. With the speed Coby is running on 600+ cubes, it makes the runs that Brad Personett and Andey Jensen are doing even more impressive with even better times and mph with SMALLER engines.

I love turbo cars. Can't wait to get to Vegas for the NHRA event in October!

  • go coby go

  • he does not need to do shit he's running a 5.96 that faster then a pro mod

  • You idiot.

The pro mod world record is in the 5.80s.

Brad Personett's turbo car has ran a 5.84 in pro mod and Ray Commisso of Toronto holds the NHRA pro mod record with a 5.81.

So now, he's NOT faster than a pro mod. He can run with them, yes, but he's not faster.

  • @Flexfuel306

But as of now he does have teh fastest AUTO pro mod out there.

  • What did he run?

P.S. His car being an automatic doesn't qualify as a Pro Mod. All Pro Mods are shifted manually with air shifters.

  • @Flexfuel306

last time I checked the 5.96 he ran later in the event is the record.

Not all pro mods are manual. Check the NHRA and ADRL's rules for their pro mod category- automatic transmissions are allowed. There are even Auto Pro Mod classes at certain events.

  • Every Pro Mod that competes in the NHRA series has a manual trans with a clutch. According to NHRA Pro Mod rules "Clutch must be manually operated by driver's foot." Since an automatic obviously has no manual clutch, it's not permitted.

Either way, Coby's car is bad ass. Just wish it wasn't a Ford.....

  • It later on stipulates that "Automated shifters are prohibited; each individual shift must be a function of the driver."

This is from the 2010 NHRA rule book, so in effect, his automatic transmission Pro Mod is not legal to compete in the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing series.

  • that's weird because I just read the NHRA Unleashed series which is also running promods and it says automatic trannys are legal.

  • I'd believe that. The NHRA Unleashed series is a totally different deal and it's brand new, so if they're smart, which it sounds like they are, they'll allow cars like Coby's to race.

Should be interesting when it gets going. The first NHRA Pro Mod event in Florida is going to be amazing. It's about time the drivers in this class got a chance to race for a Wally at the national events.....

  • this is true I love promod and I'm glad it's being recognized as a pro class in the NHRA now.

The unleashed series should be interesting too, but I believe 10.5 and the other 1/8th mile classes should run 1/4 mile to make it easier to follow for newer fans (since that's what it's trying to do). That and watching those classes battle out in the Top end is amazing!

  • Wow he seriously needs to find a better way to bump in from the pre stage. The car is going to jump right through the beams one of these days.

  • @Flexfuel306 Well if he is alreayd staged deep and knows the limit with the boost he has to stage all he could do is get deeper in but shouldnt set go thru. Ya never know tho. Took the RWSN last year in his first time! He can drive that hotrod of his lol

  • Don't get me wrong. The car is unreal and he can drive. I'm just worried he might roll the beams since he bumps in while on boost and ruin the race before it even starts.
